    Hi Guys, when you fit the conduit you should lay a draw string into it as well as the cables, this will let you pull more cables through should you forget something or want to add something later.

    Being able to monitor the boat while away from it will be a great peace of mind. Do you have security cameras as well? I’d be careful leaving Alexa on, she sometimes hears things and translates - you may end up with your water running all night.

      It's fantastic huh? There are other similar tech but this one is really simple to use and he's working on making it affordable for sailboat owners. We will have security cameras that we'll test out how they function with everything. We don't have an echo dot ourselves so that's good advice!!

    Metal boats produce a lot of condensation if there is no insulation. If wiring is done before the insulation you should have the wire in conduit. It is very hard to do re-wire work in the future with the wire is covered by insulation. May be plan to have space for future wire work when you run the the wire. Also run add a pull line in each conduit or channel. It helps when you have to run new wire. If doubt watch painful work done by other sail boaters when they do re-wire or repair work.

    • @lahakai
      @lahakai  Год назад +1

      Yes! Our thoughts exactly! When we ripped out the old wires they were all pinched and falling behind the frames so we'd like to avoid that. We are working on insulation this week and figuring out what kind of conduits will work for us when we do the final wire install. Love the pull line idea! will definitely do! Thanks for the feedback, keep it comin'!! Cheers

    Having done remote product support.... I don't think I can comment ;) Really, no matter the length and amount of content in these videos, I can't mind read. Any comments I would make would be made on (probably incorrect) assumptions. I can't assert the wiring in my own boat is as good or better either. It does work though :)

    You have taken a very sensible approach to building out the interior. I can't wait to see what your final design looks like. Someone suggested you run extra wires to "future proof" your electrical installation. One alternative is to run "messengers" (strong twine) through each conduit and cable channel so that you could easily pull additional wires though in the future. That is very often done with conduit inside masts and should work fine in your interior. Love your channel!

    The conduits are a great idea but I advise to make them much larger than you think you need because you'll find you need more wires later and that they tangle in the conduit. Bigger conduits will make things easier in the future.

    Hi re: The wiring if you pass wires between the hull and the ribs you risk it getting getting pinched if you impact a dock hard or maybe pounding against the dock in the storm. I know your Hull is strong, but they all flex.
    Dedicated conduit is a better way to go like the type to you showed.

    I recommend that you document your work as you go from day to day. A brief log is probably enough to remind you of facts that you may need in the course of the refit. Account records, purchase receipts and phone logs are all helpful if you ever have to go back to retrieve key decisions and events. At my ripe old age (78) I can attest that this habit of documentation would have saved me a lot of money and grief had I been more consistent in following this advice. Cheers guys! Dar-lhe conselhos é impossível, você está pronto para um bom começo, basta ter cuidado onde você coloca os interruptores e as várias fontes (de alimentação), caso contrário você está indo bem por enquanto.
    Bem, o que seu amigo Dudu projetou é fantástico, também estou projetando algo assim em meu barco (se tudo correr bem em 3 anos estará pronto, estou trabalhando sozinho e não posso ir todos os dias porque vivo na Itália e meu barco está em Montenegro), Planejei que todos os guinchos fossem elétricos e controlados por computador e muitas outras coisas, como as velas de enrolar, na proa já planejo colocar 3 velas (bujarrona, genoa e a pequena vermelha para as velas) a vela principal enrolada no mastro, que espero fazer em carbono.
    Boa continuação

    You should use split flexible conduit to run all of your wires. It will help to protect the wires and allow you to get to the wires. If there is an area the you want to keep water from the wires the just use flexible conduit without the split.

    As much as i love the advantages technology can bring into our lives i am still a bit old school when it comes to relying on computers for everything. especially in a salt water environment. Computers will fail and i want you to at least have some mechanical redundancy for when that happens. Mechanical circuit breakers can easily be replaced. Virtual switches and breakers are expensive and not available everywhere .. especially in the places we want you to go and see. Happy Sunday Friends!

    • @lahakai
      @lahakai  Год назад +1

      This is so true, and that's why it's nice that this is in tandem with the original switch board and fuse box and not as a replacement of it. The way the boat in the video was setup was so nice to because everything is so easily accessible. Say that you need to go old school, the switches are right there. It will be very interesting to see how he develops this technology and see the longevity and durability of it all. Cheers!!

    Hi guys, my guessing is that the work you've shown is just for gettin an idea where to put what and to create a starting point for the plannings Mobili Mare will do. I really hope that this is NOT the final installation . . . otherwise i will highly recomment some protection against shaving. You have a steelboat with is always moving, even at anchorage. Loose wires around sharp sheetmetal corners will be the worst case ! Remember: you will immediately find out that you will have a shortage but you will never know where it has occured along the way these cables are run behind all the profiles and the interior walls. On the other hand: a beautiful project in hands of skilled experts with the right tools. It's a joy to look at with best regards from Berlin, Germany

    • @lahakai
      @lahakai  Год назад

      Definitely! This is just for measuring the wires and showing placement. Now we know where everything goes, we're going to find conduits that satisfy how many wires we have going in the same direction. And we will also talk with Mobili Mare about what options we have and how they can work with those conduits. They can make inspection hatches in the wood so we can access them at certain points. We have to do our equipment wires as well still and the wires from the mast will need to be considered. Thanks for looking out for us!! Cheers!

      You are so right about this! He didn't add conduit and regrets it. Some of his wires moved out of place too so they are difficult to adjust or move around. So we wanted to learn from this and be super organized. Love the idea of laying extra wire just incase and we will do this! Cheers!

  • @MrRotske

    Just a little question: After fixing the welds did you put the boat back into the water to make sure all welds are 100% watertight ? Leaking welds are not always visible to the naked eye. Once the interior installed it will be hard to fix any problems....Keep up the good work ! Great channel.

  • @4englishlies875

    You might want to add grommets at the holes on the ribs so that the wires don't rub through and short out. Chasing down shorts really suck and is very time consuming.

    Low voltage or any voltage line against the hull will draw electrons away from the metal/surface and weaken it. Not recommended voltage line on the outside surface.

  • @JamesRook
    @JamesRook Год назад

    That's a really good idea laying out your wiring plan before the interior goes in. When you do your final loom, you might want to think about bundling the various component legs with zip ties or Velcro strips before installing them in the conduits. Meaning bundle all the lighting wires together, all the power leads together, etc. Good luck!

    • @lahakai
      @lahakai  Год назад +1

      Great idea! That could reduce the chance of getting tangled in the conduit. We'll try to get it really organized! Cheers!!

    • @JamesRook
      @JamesRook Год назад +1

      @@lahakai If you have to run a wire through a closed pipe or conduit for a long run and you have access to compressed air, cut a heavy piece of string longer than the pipe, push the end in a little ways and make sure the rest of the string is completely slack. Use a blow gun to squirt air into the end with the string, feed in the loose street (hold onto the end!) and it will come out the other end and you can then attach it to your wire and pull it through. It works around bends and even right angles.

    • @lahakai
      @lahakai  Год назад +1

      How clever! We'll keep that one in the back pocket! We're going to try to get as many conduits as possible up. Even our test wire has gotten caught and pinched behind the frames making it hard to remove. So the conduit will be essential.

    • @JamesRook
      @JamesRook Год назад +1

      @@lahakai Last tip and I'll go away. When you buy your crimp connectors - and you'll need a lot! - get the style with shrink tube on the ends. They help keep corrosion down and wires tight. A ring terminal crimped to a wire also is a good way to tie on a pull string.
