al pacino is such a great actor. i saw this movie when I was 15 maybe 16 and i just couldn't believe that the actor wasn't blind on real life. on thinking that his first oscar was on this role ! he had already godfather and scarface on his curriculum and just after this movie he conquered the respect of the academia. such a nice role from a great actor.
They call themselves the Academy, but that doesn't make them academia, just saying :) I think Pacino was well-respected long before, among those with a deeper knowledge and appreciation of acting and filmmaking. The Academy is mainstream big business, and as such they are slooooow on the uptake ;) they're generally very predictable in what kinds of film they'll recognise, and quality is only a very minor factor.
It would of been so cool to be an extra and to be able to sit there and enjoy one of the best actors doing his thing in one of his best performances in his career. Must of been one hell of a experience.
This is the kind of scene you can´t just pause in the middle. It lock you in place and forces you to absorb and experience its greatness. I can almost feel the electricity in that room. A place where great acting and exceptional writing meet. Just....wow
I literally got the chills from head to to when he said "I'd take a flamethrower to this place" when I first saw this movie and still do every time I see it. Pacino is legendary here.
Rebhorn was in this movie with Pacino, for which Pacino won the Oscar for Best Actor. The same year he was in My Cousin Vinny with Marisa Tomei, for which she won Best Supporting Actress.
"You think you are merely sending this splendid foot soldier back to Argon with his tail between his legs, but I say you are executing his soul!" Gives me chills, Al Pacino is the man!
Most absolutely GREATEST speech/moment ever in movies. I love many, Outlaw Josey Wales, Sling Blade, Lonesome Dove, and many many more. But nothing tops this speech. - blu duc
Scent of a Woman was a great movie and this scene was the best of it all. Al Pacino is a fantastic actor and playing a blind lawyer defending his son he loses his temper when he hears the accusations being thrown at him. Its a brilliant scene and Pacino was superb in the movie. He fights for his sons innocence and yells at the courtroom making sure they know what's right and what's wrong. Great movie and Pacino got an Oscar for the role. A very well deserved Oscar too!
True enough. This isn't a courtroom. Its a University that has been made to look like a courtroom. True again that Pacino isn't a real lawyer but he is the one who is defending Charlie so he may as well have been. Charlie was his son.
I love this speech "We broke the rules and deserve to be tarred and feathered but everyone else should feel bad and let us get away with being cheats". Well acted, but seriously.
@@CRAZYUNCLE117 thats not what 'accessory' to a crime means. In a criminal trial at most he would be facing a contempt of court charge for failure to testify. accessory after the fact requires giving the criminal some form of aid or actively hindering the prosecution. refusing to comply with a court order to testify, on its own, does not rise to that level, but can face its own penalties of fine or jail time until the order is complied with.
