I dont think there exists any English speaking singer comparable to Judith Durham. It is not only for the superb quality of her voice but the way she manages to touch the listeners in their souls. She is undoubtedly unique. Although this might not sound that relevant after all I regret the British establishment has not recognized her in the extent she deserves. The recognition however comes from his millions of admirers who manifest their feelings in the youtube and elsewhere.

She surely has a gift. And it is not only the beautiful voice. The gift of moving us all is even more remarkable. If you have not heard yet ... then listen to her acapella songs on her own website.

I nearly burst into tears when I heard this the first time. Just had a deputy in our department commit suicide. Hold on tight. People love you. She sings it beautifully.

Judy Durham mentioned this song on a radio interview. After her car crash in Melbourne, she went to a rehab facility in Brighton. On the CD, the lyrics are credited to Lorraine Jager. Ms Durham said that Lorraine had approached her in rehab, and told of her sister, who as a relatively young woman, married with 6 kids, had had a devastating stroke - and I guess was also in the facility. Lorraine had written a song, could Judith find a way to perform it?

If i'm correct that was the accident when a young girl (i think it was a girl) was killed. This affected Judith a LOT. Think it was on the Calder Hwy outside Melbourne, but my memory is a bit shaky on it. Makes this just so personal for Judith. Stunningly beautiful woman of mind, body, and spirit!

I wonder if many realise just how personal this was for Judith, through all of her trials through life! A car accident in which a young girl died, her life long battle with a severe lung / bronchial disease that eventually took her. Her self image issues as a young woman (how this was possible for such a stunningly beautiful woman astounds me). Her financial devastation when their bank collapsed. Ron's MND, her brain haemorrage, having to learn to read and write all over again! There is more, but the point is just how incredible was her spirit, her stoicism, and always theat incredibly gorgeous smile. Yes, Judith is arguably the greatest female singer ever, a very subjective point, yes she was an incredibly beautiful woman with a stunning figure, but her true beauty lay in her wondrous heart and spirit. What an inspiration to us all to deal with life and "just get on with it" and don't whinge. My one personal wish is that i could have thanked her for that gift to me, (and to tell her i've always been besotted with her 😊). Listening to these lyrics really brings home to me her strength, this must have been hard to sing for her!

Ed McDowell hello .. Deja Revue made a comment 3 years ago (that ironically shows up just above your question), giving the very moving backstory to this song .. I don’t know how to copy & paste it & it’s too long for me to type it accurately, but if you haven’t found out yet, then it’s worth it to go have a read. I
