How could someone give this thumbs down? Really? As a vocalist and musician i will say that John has the clearest, purest high tenor voice in music. He is the best!

l agree, but unfortunately there are pelicans out there who have nothing else in their lives to do but to belittle others. We know they are great musicians, playing great music and that's all that matters.

He's been the bassist for the Doobie Brothers since 2010..I would consider that quite an accomplishment..

@@Catfish2255 I love the Doobie Bros. One of my fav bands! But John Cowan outclasses them vocally (maybe excluding Michael Macdonald, because he's extraordinary too).

Thank you for posting this. It's the most beautiful of all performances of this I've heard by Cowan. In 2000 or thereabouts, I sat in my car in Winchester, Virginia listening to Cowan's Mountain Stage performance of this a capella. He held one high note for a breathtaking period, and I cried listening to the entire thing.

Every 50 years you hear a voice this good. So pure and crystal clear. It’s a privilege to be able to listen to the instrument God Blessed him with.
Stunning is what comes to mind first.

Reminds me of Freddy Curci. Both in power of voice and being exceptional, yet relatively unknown.

Well....not sure I would call John relatively unknown. He's been the Doobie Brother's bass player and singer for a decade now.....plays with Andrea Zonn, who is James Taylor's backup singer and fiddle player as a duo called the Herculeons, has his one bluegrass band as well.

@@grassflats2 I think his talent exceeds his prominence, though, especially as a vocalist. He's a big name in bluegrass, but not as much in general American 1970/80s music. I'd guess because he didn't sing on many BIG hits besides Callin' Baton Rouge. He's a hidden gem in my eyes!
