Love Mark O'Conner. I had the great fortune to hear Mark when he was busking at 13 at the Seattle Folk Life Festival. Mark blew me away on fiddle and guitar. How many fiddle and guitar championships did you win before turning pro. I feel privileged to listen to Mark then and now. Lynnwood, WA greatest musician. John Cowan is one of a kind. A wonderful and pure voice. Two of the finest Americana musicians. Thanks so much.
I'm proud that mark is from the Pacific Northwest. You knew that he was a genius, that the world would love him. SFL Festival needs to come back and give voice to other musicians. .
This tune was good enough as just a tune to pick, but John had to open his mouth & make it great.
That guitar player messed that all up sad leave the singer sing
So awesome to see this live. My dad played this record growing up and this tune was always my favorite. Mark's the greatest.
If B. J. Thomas was never born John Cowan would be My favorite singer. Thanks for posting this!
Feel-so-good shivers every single time I come back to this. Mark O'Connor's breathtakingly sweet chops = unsurpassable.
Mark O'Connor directed the history making American Music Shop T.V. Show in Nashville for its 4 years on the air. Nashville Tennessean covered his return visit to lecture and demonstrate his O'Connor Method for violin/fiddle and strings at Belmont University tomorrow (Sun) at 3 - 5:00pm.

"The Ballad of Sally Anne" Mark O'Connor / John Cowan - American Music Shop - New Nashville Cats
I've danced to this song by Mark in my living room for many years. It brings such a joy to my heart when I hear it, even though it's about death and ghosts. Go figure!
Dancing to it today with my 3 yr old grandson... Yee haw💞
Watched this video 10 or 15 times Had never noticed the cross. Very Nice.
Look at Brent Mason in the back,he's my favorite country picker. He's been on just about every bodies records one time or another.Chet Atkins discovered him at the Stagecoach Lounge on Murfreesboro Rd.
That's right. I've noticed so many of the big stars of Country choose Brent to play lead guitar .... most notably George Jones, Alan Jackson.... Brent deserves many more accolades than he gets.
Istak Pearlman, perhaps the world's best violinist said nothing but good things about Mark's playing
Thanks a lot for beautiful song!!!! Violinist - BRAVO!!!!Warm greetings from Russia
It just doesn't get any better than this !!
One john Cowan and his unique style and voice,
I went to "College" in the seventies in Seattle. Mark O'Connor grew up in Bellevue, a wealthy suburb. He was a fine old timey fiddler at the time. He hasn't deteriated too much since then.
I didn't grow up in the wealthy suburb of Bellevue, WA. I grew up on the poor suburb of Mountlake Terrace. Have a read of my memoir out called Crossing Bridges.
@@markoconnor Sorry about that. I read that in the UW Daily when I started college. You are a great musician and fiddler. God bless you.
A great toe-tapping tune.
Wonderful! Great vocals!!!
sweet music to my soul, thank you for posting.
Cool!!!!
such a happy tune, and such haunting lyrics. never knew those excisted till quite recently. expertly done. thanks y'all
Mark's just such a great guy. Thanks so much for posting !
That's my name! Delightful song!
Another amazing song and video . .well done Mark and John and thank you very much !!!!
My favorite fiddler
Yes!
Cowan’s hair is immaculate
PS , the vocals are superb.
That's Harry Stinson, Jake. He's been one of Nashville's top session drummers for sometime now and as evidenced by the video a great harmony vocalists. You can catch him playing live shows on the road with Marty Stewart and others!
A tragic, sad story told in a song with an upbeat, driving tempo.
the typical blugrass song. upbeat tune and sad lyrics
🥰👍🥰
John cowan now playing bass withevthe doobie bros, anybody know that drummer
Listen to Billie Holiday's "Strange Fruit"
je préfere la version des country sisters
AKA Handsome Harry @ guitar
The guitar player that sings harmony looks like Jeff Probst
Who is singing along with John Cowan?
Harry Stinson.
What cross?
On the chain around John Cowan's neck.
Is there a story behind this song? Im wondering why he was hanged, by who? Maybe he realized what he had done, got married! Just joking. Mark is a fine fine fiddler.
That was always my thought!! Married, AAACCHH!! Suicide time!
@@Rainy1dae I take this story to be about a white woman who was to marry a black guy and he got hung before the wedding like Strange fruit- Billie Holiday
@@miaedsall That's what I thought when I heard the phrase "strange fruit."
Wow, I have played this as a fiddle tune for years, but had no idea there were lyrics, and what lyrics they are!
@@miaedsall The lyrics remind me of a movie plot I once seen
oh John...take that horrid cross off your neck...the atheists love you! Free yourself!
oh poor Olivia, are you one of those bad angels, or a vampire, repent you lil ol'sinner, or you might burn in everlasting fire and breathing sulfur and brimstone and dancing to the devil's fiddle,,,,,,, surely you have more important things on your mind, ha ha
One wd.think.However some folks are happiest finding things to be unhappy about,
Some people never grow up.
