My god. I really, really, REALLY hope all this will work as intended cause if it does, I think this could be the Oculus competitor we've been waiting for.
It's hard to compare the Quest 2 - which is a stand alone, portable headset that uses a XR2 snapdragon chip to a PCVR headset that could be powered by a $1000+ desktop with a dedicated GPU. Yes you can connect a Quest 2 to a desktop via link or virtual desktop, but it wont compare to a PC dedicated VR headset like the G2 or Index. The reason for that is when the image is sent from the PC to the Quest 2, the XR2 Snapdragon chip (which is essentially just a cell phone chip) has to compress the image in order to get it to display on the Quest 2. This takes away from image quality, texture, etc. The DecaGear will be more of a direct competitor to the Reverb G2 as both are PCVR HMD's that run @ a 4k resolution & use inside out tracking. *HTC apparently is announcing a stand alone headset that will compete with the Q2
@@CapN-Savvy I still consider it a competitor. Because of the price. I would really love to buy a VR headset, but the Quest 2 is simply out of the question being under Facebooks control. Not so much that it is FB, but they promised that you would never need an FB account to use Oculus headsets. Surprise, surprise, now you do. Get banned on FB, loose your games. That and they run it like Apple. locked down and prevent competition. Looking at Steam stats, you'll see that a massive percentage of PC users, have the Quest 2. So if this continues, they will be in charge of PC VR development. In terms of direction and precedence.

Personally I don’t really like the reverb g2, I currently have a reverb g2, quest 2, and rift cv1 and from my experience the tracking on the g2 is too bad to in real world use compared to the cv1 and quest 2. When I’m in beat saber I can tell my sabers tracking is a few degrees off and it’s even worse when you put your hands to the side. Or in Pavlov my hands sometimes stretch. It works well if you always keep your hands in-front of you, but it’s a pain that really ruins the experience. It’s a shame, because of how great the panels are. I have considered getting valve knuckle, but to me it’s just not worth it, and I have a friends with a g2 paired with valve knuckles/trackers and he always seems to have issues with software. I’ve bought new lights to create a better environment for the g2 controllers, bought a 100 pack of 1.5v battery’s, because the g2 burns through them like crazy and it still sucks. I hope the deca gear live up to its promises and in all honesty I wouldn’t mine having to pay upward of $1000 dollars if everything they say is true, but fingers crossed.
in my experience the tracking on the g2 isnt that bad all considered. its everything else about the headset except the displays that's the problem. The controllers feel like cheap knockoffs of oculus touch controllers that are worse in basically every measurable metric (battery life, weight, build quality, haptics, button feel, trigger pull length etc. ). the headset, while very comfortable to wear and light weight with nice fabric on the facial interface and headband, also feels a bit cheap, the plastics are better than whats on the controller but the band is still creaky and the cable clip breaks comically easy. the displays are gorgeous and definitely the nicest thing about the headset, brought low by the disappointingly narrow sweet-spot in the lenses. you get amazing clarity and sharpness over about a third of your field of view, with a pretty sharp drop-off in clarity as you move outward towards the edges. the FOV isn't bad, about the same as the cv1 at around 95 degrees horizontal IIRC. i had my headset for 2 months before i had to RMA one of the controllers because the grip trigger broke, and first week of march i had to RMA the headset because of visible damage to the LCDs, looked like a small string of dead pixels but right above the sweet spot and very distracting.
i feel like this headset feels too good to be true, and yet it's gotten Valve's assistance(?) in development. the fact that they're aiming to sell an all-in-one headset at a midrange price is insane. needless to say, i'm excited.

the batteries in my cv1 controllers feel like they last forever. easily a couple weeks of fairly regular use. the reverb g2 controllers are pathetic in comparison, twice as many batteries (and they basically HAVE to be 1.5v cells or it doesnt work properly) and far less than half the batterylife. maybe 10-15 hours tops from 2 1.5v AAs. if you try to use 1.2v rechargable AAs from a full charge you might get half an hour or 45min before low battery warnings start to happen, after that the tracking gets worse and haptics stop working. maybe 2-3 hours before voltage drops too low for the controller to stay on.
