Love this product sooo much. Live in a 1936 house with kitchen cupboards from the 70s with useless brass center pulls. Removed the pulls, filled both holes on each cupboard and all drawers with wood putty, used Tudor brown Briwax on them and was totally amazed at the results. All the corners where you pulled them open are now blended beautifully with the rest of the mahogany. Added modern handles where they should have been ( at the corners) and my neighbor thought I got new cupboards 😃
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video and demonstrate the different colors of Briwax on different types of wood. This has been EXTREMELY helpful. Are the higher resolution color boards on your website? Thank you for your help and amazing content!
TYVM indeed. I can see Golden Oak for my oak cabinet doors will be perfect. Not sold us such here in England but TBG's own words explain ""If you happen to have seen a can with one of the English names, here is the US equivalent. English Briwax P-7 or Medium Brown = “Light Brown” Briwax in the USA English Briwax Antique Brown or # 37 = “Golden Oak” Briwax in the USA Enlgish Briwax Jacobean or # 181 = “Dark Brown” Briwax in the USA" Brilliant.
Thank. you for the great video! We have never used Briwax before and struggling to figure out what color. We recently moved to 1990 home with original oak cabinets that lean orange/gold. Thinking of going with Tudor Brown, Red Mahogany or Teak. We wouldn't mind a reddish without the orange/honey gold, want them darker. We are also concerned about areas that may be lacking in finish due to age and wear. Worried about it ending up blotchy. Would appreciate your thoughts. TYIA
this is a great guide thanks ! have you done this with Mango wood? I cant seems to find any wax or stain guide on mango wood recommendations, the colour has really gone and I am ameture, any recommendations welcome :)
I love this stuff but do have to say I used ebony on orangey oak cabinets and they do not look anything like you sample. I do love them though coz they look so much better
Question: How long should I wait to buff a piece after applying Briwax? When is the optimal time to buff? Should I wait for the solvent to fully dissolve and then buff? Also, can you buff 48 hour hours after applying Briwax when the Wax is fully hardened and set?
Briwax has toluene as a solvent which dries much quicker than the xylene base solvents most waxes use. The solvent evaporates in just a few minutes. You can usually start buffing right away if you are waxing anything larger than just a sample. If you are waxing a piece of furniture, when you finish waxing go back to the part you started with and start buffing there.
I think my oak cabinets (RV) have some sort of sprayed finish on them (not stained). I'd have to sand that all down to wood to get acceptable results, correct? Thanks
hi, this is a great informational video, I wanted to know your opinion on if I used the ebony as the first coat and then went back over as a second coat with the light brown color? I have those classic golden oak cabinets.
Sure it can. It is OK on any fully cured finish. A lot of the Scandinavian style teak furniture is typically done with a low sheen oil finish. Wax is perfect over that type of finish. The lower the sheen the more impact the wax will have on the color. Test an inconspicuous spot first
Briwax won't change the color on lacquered brass at all. The finish is so smooth and glossy it won't hold and wax. It will just buff off. Wax only fills the pores, scratches and texture of the surface where it hardens and buffs to a shine. Lacquered brass just won't hold any wax and hence no color. It might not apply in this case but when I have bright shiny lacquered brass furniture handles the need toning down, I strip the lacquer off with acetone and darken them with a brass darkening solution. Then I use Briwax metal polish to polish to the exact brightness I'm looking for.
Why on earth don't Briwax sell sample packs?! Just 5ml of each colour, so we can test them all on the wood we want to use it on. Bizarre lack of customer care.
Sorry about that. That is something out of my hands. I tried to get 10 species of varied woods that people may find similar to what they are dealing with. If you have suggestions about species that are absent from my selection I'd be interested to hear. I'm in the Southeastern US (Atlanta, GA) and I operate a custom furniture workshop, so I have lots of scraps laying around but perhaps not what you need to see depending on where in the world you are.
Hi, I have 19 oak doors that have previously been Briwaxed with Briwax P7 Medium Brown. They are in pretty good condition. If I was to give them a new coat, how do I prepare the surface? Do I use a spirit to wipe over the surface or a fine sand paper? Thanks, in advance.
If they have a Briwax finish you don't need to do anything to prep the surface. The new wax will melt into the old wax. If there is any dirt or grime that needs removing I would just use a gentle solvent like mineral spirits or just warm soapy water prior to waxing them.
I have cherry wood however I don't think they are real wood. I hate cherry and would like to tone it down what color would you recommend and can I put it straight on after cleaning without sanding
Smooth surfaces will hold very little wax and hence take very little color. Given that this is an inexact science you should at least test Briwax in an inconspicuous spot first before applying to entire surface. I’ve posted a few photos on my 12/4 Facebook (facebook.com/Briwax/ ) post where Briwax was applied without sanding. If you need help finding a Briwax retailer near you, send your zip code. @@TheBriwaxGuy thank you for your prompt response so if I wanted to test it as you said what color would I need to tone the red cherry to a more brownish shade
@@CarmellaNYC Maybe dark brown or tudor brown Briwax. And if you like browner than try Ebony. Did you see the pictures of Briwax applied to shiny oak cabinets on my Facebook post? Cherry grain is not the same as oak but Briwax over shiny cherry wood should come out similar. If you need larger photos e-mail us at thebriwaxguy@gmail.com
Briwax isn't promoted as food safe. There are 4 components in the can, beeswax, carnauba wax, pigments and solvent to keep it in paste form so you can apply it. The solvent evaporates leaving just the other 3 parts. The waxes are natural products but I can't be certain about the colorants. In any case waxes aren't the most waterproof of finishes and wouldn't last very long in a wet environment.
What’s your email again? I’d love to send you a pic of my cabinets so you can help me pick a more cool tone briwax. My current are def oak that has the orangey tint but not super orangey.. and, they’re not as light as some of the oak I’ve seen in most peoples homes on here.. even tho mine are oak, they’re darker and already have that dark grain contrasts.. I’m not wanting to go dark dark.. but just do enough to neutralize the orangey tint that’s there even tho they’re not super orangey.

If you use colored Birwax on wood chairs, will it rub off on clothing when sitting on them or will it be safe to sit on after a curing time?
