Absolutely love this video, Kylie - THANK YOU! You saved me with Sherwin Williams Steamed Milk 7554. It's PERFECT with honey oak. I've been spinning my wheels here for weeks - nothing gray looked right. Then I threw Steamed Milk on the wall and everything clicked. Love your videos, you're very funny. I'm a fan for life.
Thank you Kylie! We’ve bought a 20+ year old custom built house with amazing mill work with a medium oak stain. Yes, it’s dated, but it’s so beautiful! I’ve been clueless on what colors to use until now. You’ve given us some great ideas and explained the subtle undertones (that have always perplexed me)oh so we’ll. Thank you!
We are in the same boat and I’m in the middle of making dinner can’t wait to watch this video and by any chance if you have painted, would you mind sharing a pic please. Our home was a custom home from the 90’s as well and solid honey oak and we don’t really want to pain them
@@preymmann9612 We moved into our house with lovely light oak trim and cabinets a year ago and every wall was painted in Requisite Gray which was too dark and way too cool. We used Sherwin Williams Natural Linen in our entry and two hallways in a northern exposure area and it is absolutely lovely! Just a hint of warmth, gentle, mellow, and neutral. It's lovely! We used Benjamin Moore's Smoke in our dining room (northern exposure) and it is just the right amount of blue, very timeless. We have Alabaster in my daughter's room (southern exposure) and 3 walls of our bedroom (northern exposure) and it's fabulous, if you are looking for a soft white. I'm still searching for a good color for our southern exposure Kitchen/Dinette/Great Room space which all flows together. Debating if I want something light and airy (like SW Alabaster,) something neutral (like SW Wordly Gray,) or if I go for moody (BM Knoxville Grey or SW Pewter Green.) Good luck to you!!
We just used Natural linen SW for walls in our new kitchen with maple cabinets. We love it!! I searched and searched for something that would work . Thanks for your videos!
Well thank you Katie, I'm glad you love it! Wouldn't it be great if you could upload photos, so people could see them? Kind of like they do with product reviews ;)
Hi! Sooo many options to go with. My cabinets and hardwood are a honey oak that can look yellow or orange depending on the light and time of day. I want to brighten up the entire space that feels cozy/modern. You said pewter, popular grey, Collingwood and conservative grey. I don’t get a lot of natural light as my big windows and patio face North. Please help! And thank you!

Thanks so much for this video. I chose sea salt for my kitchen walls. Below the chair rail we went two shade darker. Cabinets look great after cleaning. New LVF floor and quartz counters in light collar. Everyone loves the look

Such a helpful video. I just got a place that’s pretty modern but they used like a red honey oak hardwood floors. Been having the hardest time figuring out the wall color. Great video, food for thought regarding the colors. My issue is a very small, dark kitchen with the dark oak cabinets, exactly like the ones in this video with the cathedral top. My floors are real hardwood in the same dark color and they are in pristine condition and look great. I want to paint the cabinets a off white/bone (made by All in One Beyond Paint, no primeing or sanding) and give the cabinets a distressed look so that some of the dark oak color peeks through to play off the floor and with a back splash that will play off the floors, not going too dark but with splashes of the dark oak. I have been researching the peel and stick stone tile, there are absolutely beautiful colors. The house is an 80's built home, we purchased in June of this year, we are now empty nesters. I don't want to modernize too much, just a little updating. The cabinets' hardware are metal with a ceramic insert, really 80's , but I do love them, they are slight ornate and I am really researching how I can update the color of the ceramic insert to coordinate with the overall color scheme (haven't figured that one out yet), my husband is not participating in the design, I told him this is my domain and I want complete control, so I am taking my time and really researching. We coordinate our efforts on the rest of the decor of the house from outside to inside and I really love it. I wish I knew how to insert a picture in this comment, but I don't. Any thoughts for me to consider?
Theresa, I just LOVE everything you're saying here. I did distressing of our kitchen cabinets in one of our PREVIOUS homes (...we've had a few) and I loved how it turned out~! When you distress, ONLY hit the edges. If you venture onto the panels, you'll scuff the paint and i can get a bit too...worn looking. The edges are the TRICK! NOw, I dont' know about the paint you're talking about as I used BEHR paint as it's a more traditional cabinet paint. Now, when you sand the edges, you might get back to bare wood and this is where a stain PEN comes in handy, to get that depth again. Mind you, if the product you're using is more like chalk paint, I would assume you WIPE the edges (and I would worry about a stain pen marring the paint as it's not normal paint). And yes, the peel and stick products are so fantastic. It's NICE if you can get an actual stone one, not one of the plastic/gel ones ;). Wayfair has a few options, but I've seen them at Home Depot too. Just make sure the tile has the SAME off white that you're painting your cabinets for FLOW! And I've NEVER heard of hardware like this, sounds wild and as long as you LOVE them, that's what matters. HOWEVER, my thought is that if you're already wanting to change them/the colour of the insert, i PERSONALLY think that a new handle could look better, and you can still pick one that you LOVE the style of! If you're updating the countertop at all, there are some AMAZING laminate/Formica countertops out there that are much more affordable than quartz (as with the ideas you're talking about, I'm assuming you want to stay budget-friendly). You know, if you go to my BLOG and go to the...well here, I'll take you right there. www.kylieminteriors.ca/category/tips-ideas/home-update-ideas/ I have TONS of blog posts, some of them quite specific to updating wood cabinets, includign one on HARDWARE! When doing the hardware, it's nice if it can coordinate with the light fixtures. Seeing as its an 80s home, you might want to stay away from nickel, as I would think there's some brass around already. Brass works well with brass or BLACK! Anyway, as you can see, this is a topic the got me going ;). Best of luck to you!
Oh no! My kitchen walls are light yellow!! No wonder my kitchen doesn't look that great. I really like the Muslin one I may look into that one. I would like to see videos on what color counter tops would look good with Oak cabinets My counter tops are pale peach. I think I really need help. Thank you for this video.
I have somewhat light grey rustic oak wood floors, light honey cabinets, mix of different marble coloring both light tan and light beiges as a countertop. the only issue is that burgundy color outside door in my kitchen. I really want to know the best color that could be compatible with all those colors.
Hi Kylie, I “inherited” an oak kitchen. I have worked extremely hard. I have wracked my brain until I’m senseless. Thank you for your video. I understand so much more. But…lol I’m so in love with rainwashed. I do have beige appliances and countertops. I do not have exposed hinges thank goodness. I have beige/brown terracotta(at night) ceramic tiles. It is a north facing kitchen but does get quiet a bit of light. All I see is the 🤮beige. I totally do not mind installing lifeproof vinyl flooring and quartz countertops. However I’m very tired. I’m thinking gray quartz countertops but ugh I barley know my name anymore. I’m located in Michigan. What would be your best recommendation for my situation? Can I email you along with photos? I feel so beyond oak & beige help! Lol thanks again💜
I have oak hardwood floors just like the cabinet door you showed, I’m looking for a fresh and airy feel. I’ve been leaning between BM White Dove vs BM Swiss coffee. According to this video I think I’m my floors will clash with the walls??..
Thank you so much for the videos! Trying to update a honey oak cabinet filled small kitchen. Little light and what light there is it’s northeast! 😱 I’ve ordered samplize rainwashed, repose, Agreeable gray, accessible beige. Adjoining living room is Dorian gray. I just found this particular video of yours after already ordering. I see I may have messed up in those possibilities but what’s your thoughts for wall color in my situation please? Countertops and backsplash will be mostly white.
Hi, your videos and website are great! We have hickory colored floors and kitchen cabinets are light wood, sort of pine? We cant afford new granite which is gold. What wall paint color would look good with cabinets to brighten things up. Thank you!
hi Kylie, we have our kitchen cabinets in mascarpone (benjamin moore) however our walls are that tuscan beige from the 90's I am looking into changing the kitchen and adjoining breakfast nook to to creamy beige, less yellow . It will have to compliment the living room which is also a tanish tone. Any recc's, I like alabaster from sherwin williams it tends to lean cool ?
I live alone in an all oak house. Like 50 cabinets. I’ve never liked oak, but I love everything else about this house. Here is the rub, I look horrible in greenish light. Not good for a single person. What suggestions. I LOVE cool blues. Help!
Great video! I've been told my cabinets are oak, but they never looked like oak to me. Now I see that they could be the orange-leaning variety. Thanks for helping me be able to admit that I actually do like them because I don't plan to replace them. In searching for paint to cover the existing Duron Lulled Beige, a color that just makes me feel sad, I had settled on Canvas Tan. Now I think I will consider Natural Linen as well. I think it might work even better with these old Santa Cecilia countertops and the adjoining north-east facing family room that can get rather gloomy on a cold wintery afternoon. Thanks for being so generous with your knowledge!
Which of the 'beige' color choices would you suggest to go with Peach/Beige tile flooring,...where I want to NEUTRALIZE the peachy tones of the floor, and bring out the beiges? ... not a ton of natural light will be happening in these tiled areas...thanks!
I have watched this multiple times and I ordered several samplize colors. I was so sure natural linen would be my color. BUT STEAMED MILK was hand down the best. In my north facing kitchen with oak cabinets with orange / pink stain steamed milk calmed them right down. It will brighten up my dark draining room and I think it’s the basement color I have been searching for. I really thought it would look yellow but it doesn’t in my home- at least in these areas. Can you do a review of steamed milk. I can’t find one. Thanks for all the info. 💕
Thanks so much for this video. We have an old shore house with honey oak cabinets. We want to put beadboard backsplash with blue/green paint and a neutral grey or beige on the other walls. Can you point me to anything on your sight that would help. Thx so much!
Thanks for the video, we're looking for a colour that works really well with Douglas fir trim. We realize taupe works well but we're not big on taupe, would rather go with a off white, thinking Cloud White, but would like other suggestions. Thanks!
Love it! I actually have a Quick Review on my blog on it, if you want to check it out.www.kylieminteriors.ca/paint-colour-review-sherwin-williams-light-french-gray-sw-0055/ Hey, what do you know, i have the video too! I wish the lighting were better, but I'm working on that ;). ruclips.net/video/_1iGBy1e1tk/видео.html
Thank you, Kylie! May I ask about another color with orange-y oak, please? Benjamin Moore Putnam Ivory. I think that also has an orange undertone, right? What do you think of that either with orange-y oak flooring in other parts of the home or with orange-y oak kitchen cabinets (where there's no wood flooring in the kitchen). Thank you.
Yup, Putnam Ivory can work, but I won't tell you it's the most MODERN colour, so for resale it's not popular, but for personal tastes it can totally work :)
Kylie M Interiors Ah. Got it. Jeez, soooo much I don’t know. Thought I finally had it with the orange undertone thing, LOL. Thank you for answering my question. 🙏🏻
It can depend on the tones in your oak (some are super red/pink/yellow/orange), but GENERALLY SPEAKING, Edgecomb can look quite nice :). I had it for a bit with my oak floors!
Well it COULD be quite lovely! I do have a video coming out SOOON on the red-toned woods and I think I have Pale Oak in it? If not, I do have very similar ideas :).
I"ve just used BW Shoreline in my living room/foyer with 'red oak' floors... I feel like its perfect. Never seen a review of Shoreline. Any reason? It is a warm neutral gray....or so it seems!
Thanks for the suggestions Suzanne. If you check out my website at www.kylieminteriors.ca/ and then 'search my site' you might find the answers to your questions on the first two. I will however add Maccchiato to my list!
I have been searching colors to go with my honey oak cabinets. I currently have rainwashed, thanks to you and I love it, just ready for a change. What do you think about alabaster with oak, east facing, one window? Thanks so much for all that you do!
I love your color choices , but for us amateur's . It would be more helpful if you would not rush through color choices . And let us see the samples a bit longer . Just slow down a bit eye sight and hearing is not as good as it use to be LOL .
We are currently revamping a foreclosed home that has oak cabinets. However, they are in horrible shape and I'm looking for advice as to what color to paint them. Revere Pewter is the current kitchen and dining room color with Chantilly lace trim. ;)
99% sure it's BM Revere Pewter 2:16, I have this in my bedroom and plan on painting tenants apartment this color with lots of honey oak fixed elements!
@@KylieMInteriorsPaint that would be great! I’ve already painted the walls accessible beige. Which looks fine but I’d be willing to change it for a better color. We have a more red tone maple.
I second your request! I'm painting a 1970s era vacation cabin that has vintage rock maple furniture and knotty pine paneling with red/orange undertones.
2nd this. I'm trying to figure out what colors go with a walnut floor. I can't figure out the undertone. Does walnut have an undertone? Or do I look for something with a brown undertone? Does that even exist? So many questions
Definitely need colors of paint to go with a more reddish Maple kitchen cabinets. My other conflict is all the north facing windows in that room. please advise what I could use that won't stand out as a real blue blue. Thank you so much your wisdom's greatly appreciated

I have TONS of blog posts, some of them quite specific to updating wood cabinets, includign one on HARDWARE!
I like the color on the wall behind you. Can you tell me what color it is?
Oh My Gosh! This was sooo informative and helpful! Thank you so much! ( side note,..you have the most beautiful hair!)
Do have any thoughts on assessible beige?
Oh no! My kitchen walls are light yellow!! No wonder my kitchen doesn't look that great. I really like the Muslin one I may look into that one. I would like to see videos on what color counter tops would look good with Oak cabinets My counter tops are pale peach. I think I really need help. Thank you for this video.
Your kitchen sounds like mine. I thought I was the only one with yellow walls.
Wonderful! As always :)👍👍👍
WHAT ABOUT YELLOW ??? LIGHT OR MEDIUM ???
Awesome video. Thanks
I have oak hardwood floors just like the cabinet door you showed, I’m looking for a fresh and airy feel. I’ve been leaning between BM White Dove vs BM Swiss coffee. According to this video I think I’m my floors will clash with the walls??..
I was hoping for some off-white paint colours that work with orangie oak cabinets. Next time 😉
Will any whites go with those oak colors?
Can you do this video for purple tones wood flooring? What Greta and white could work with that flooring?
THANK you Miss Nelly! I've been meaning to do this, and now I'm going to make it happen :). Thanks for the kick in the toosh.
Very helpful! P.S. You have stunningly gorgeous hair!
Oh thank you! It was a good hair day, I try to do videos on those ;).
What is the color of the wall by the door in this video? Love the tips in this video but the wall color kept catching my eye.
She's a beauty! That's BM Classic Gray :)
Great info. She should also be a hair model btw.
What color hardware would you recommend with oak cabinets? Silver, gold or black?
How would crushed ice by Sherwin Williams look with the honey oak?
So could you list the best choices please. And what about popular whites to go with oak cabinets. Thanks!
She did list some "best" choices in the video. Best is subjective and it all depends on what you are trying to accomplish.
What do you think of classic gray by Benjamin Moore
It's beautiful and suits a VERY wide range of wood stains.
Well, thank you, what a nice note! And I think Natural Linen is a GREAT direction :)
Which of the 'beige' color choices would you suggest to go with Peach/Beige tile flooring,...where I want to NEUTRALIZE the peachy tones of the floor, and bring out the beiges? ... not a ton of natural light will be happening in these tiled areas...thanks!
Hiya! I'm a BIG fan of Muslin for a look that NODS towards colours like what you're explaining without being too strong. Maaaybe SW Moderate White?
I like that dark color stain, what color is it? I want to change mine to that color.
Dining room not draining room lol🙈
I will put this on my list! I'm just getting a list together for the New Year and I appreciate the reminder about how good this colour is ;)
Thanks so much for this video. We have an old shore house with honey oak cabinets. We want to put beadboard backsplash with blue/green paint and a neutral grey or beige on the other walls. Can you point me to anything on your sight that would help. Thx so much!
Hi Linda, if you checkout my website at: www.kylieminteriors.ca/ and search using your key words I am hoping you'll find exactly what you need!
Cool greys everyday!
Do you think edgecomb gray would work? There are light blue countertops. Ughh old houses are the worst. lol
Just subscribe to your channel. Love the visual demonstrations. I live in UK do you review Farrow & Ball paint colours. Thanks
Hey Kylie, interesting and informative. Can I ask what is the wall color in the background by the light switch?
Hi Sonia, thank you! That's Benjamin Moore Classic Gray which could be quite pretty too!
@@KylieMInteriorsPaint ohhhh that particular color is such a chameleon I would have never guessed 😀 Appreciate the quick response 💕
Thanks for the video, we're looking for a colour that works really well with Douglas fir trim. We realize taupe works well but we're not big on taupe, would rather go with a off white, thinking Cloud White, but would like other suggestions. Thanks!
Have you looked at a taupe in the off white range?
Thank u. Love ur stuff. What about sw light french gray
Love it! I actually have a Quick Review on my blog on it, if you want to check it out.www.kylieminteriors.ca/paint-colour-review-sherwin-williams-light-french-gray-sw-0055/
Hey, what do you know, i have the video too!
Thank you so much for the information!! Truly helpful. At 3:38 what was the name of the color? Callingwood?
That's right, it's Collingwood and it's a beauty!
Thanks for this helpful video. I believe you said Revere Pewter is good with oak. What about Edgecomb Gray?
It can depend on the tones in your oak (some are super red/pink/yellow/orange), but GENERALLY SPEAKING, Edgecomb can look quite nice :). I had it for a bit with my oak floors!
What about Agreeable Gray with Honey Oak? I first painted Silver Metal -- ick. Then Repose Gray -- Meh. Third time a charm with Agreeable Gray?
It can work, but what about a wink more warmth, ie. Popular Gray????
Kylie hello, I know is is not a recent video but are you saying Collingworth gray by Benjamin Moore???
Hey Bob, yup, Collingwood, by Benjamin Moore :).
Very helpful!! Thank you!
How about either Balboa Mist or Classic Gray?
What about marshmallow?
I’m not into beige although I have balboa mist ughh I’m like whites, and off white
Love this video!
What’s your take on pale oak with wood? My floor tile has an orangey/pink undertone. Late 90’s, early 2000’s if you catch my drift.
Hi Liz, if you go to my website at www.kylieminteriors.ca/ and search 'Shoreline' you will find a number of reviews that I hope will be helpful!
What about Ivory Lace?
I would love to see a color review of Steamed milk and Natural linen.
And macchiato
Thanks for the suggestions Suzanne. If you check out my website at www.kylieminteriors.ca/ and then 'search my site' you might find the answers to your questions on the first two. I will however add Maccchiato to my list!
And yes, I'll put them on my 'to review' list!
Which one she mentioned after gray owl?? The one before the last cool gray color
Collingwood.
Dark grey?
I like a natural oak
ME TOOOO!
I have been searching colors to go with my honey oak cabinets. I currently have rainwashed, thanks to you and I love it, just ready for a change. What do you think about alabaster with oak, east facing, one window? Thanks so much for all that you do!
Jenny, this sounds LOOOOVELY, totally, as long as it suits your countertop and backsplash!
Steamed milk 👍
I love your color choices , but for us amateur's . It would be more helpful if you would not rush through color choices . And let us see the samples a bit longer . Just slow down a bit eye sight and hearing is not as good as it use to be LOL .
Duly noted! That makes sense :).
2024 gray is out
Ahhh yes, gray is out as far as 'trends' go, but there are those who love it for their home!
She's cute
Thank you
We are currently revamping a foreclosed home that has oak cabinets. However, they are in horrible shape and I'm looking for advice as to what color to paint them. Revere Pewter is the current kitchen and dining room color with Chantilly lace trim. ;)
rainwashed, conservative gray, steamed milk,
Hi Kylie! Would Aesthetic White by Sherwin Williams be a good match for honey oak cabinets and floor?
What is the shade of grey at 6:23, that you describe as "Calmer"?
99% sure it's BM Revere Pewter 2:16, I have this in my bedroom and plan on painting tenants apartment this color with lots of honey oak fixed elements!
it's hard to hear you on the 2 videos I've watched
Kitchen….hahaha. My whole house is solid oak everything.
Is Muslin from SW or BM?
Good question, thank you! That was Benjamin Moore Muslin :)
Is there a big difference between Muslin SW and BM?
I’d love to hear what color you would pick for maple cabinets!
Ooooo, what type of maple - some are more pink/red/orange/etc...? I'm happy to put another video together if I can find the wood samples!
Wish i saw this vid earlier 😥
I like your content, but it’s VERY hard to understand some of the paint names. Since you don’t add tge names as text on the vid, could you either speak them more intentionally, or at least look at the camera so we can try to SEE what you’re saying? ~ thanks for considering my request!
Hey Martha, thank you for the feedback! As I'm doing my new videos, we're adding this in! I'll ask my hubs if he can add it to my older vids :).
Hmmm, seems like we can't add it now. I miiiiight do fresh, new videos. Or if you want to tell me the TIMES that I said a color, I'm happy to listen and see what I said for you!
