Hello guys I'm glad I found ur channel I really enjoy seeing how you live off the grid I hope you all had a wonderful things given and Christmas I just found your channel a week ago and I am catching up on all your videos much love for Arkansas
Always look forward to your videos and I love how you guys explain everything your doing it helps alot stay warm guys and watch those coyotes their sneaky buggers ❤
Thank you. MERRY CHRISTMAS. I use my vacuum sealer all the time and I am in Central Kentucky. My grandmother cooked on her wood heat stove all the time. She would use the crock from her crock pot. She said, "Once it gets hot, it will help heat the house too." Great video.
I was baking bread every Saturday morning for a couple of years, using a 100 year old starter given to me by a teacher in a cooking class my husband and I took. I was so good about feeding it. I kept in the fridge and then we went on a vacation and I forgot about it and killed it. I STILL haven't gotten over the guilt.
You look like a good cook your husband should be happy good women that can cook are hard to find ! ITS NICE TO HAVE AROUND. I cook myself and it's nice to have ameal cooked and not being the cook all the time its seems you to are very helpful to each and other that's hard to come by !
So, i see you made sauerkraut! My Dad made it his whole life and put peppers n onions in some, so good. Your turkey looked yummy, and the scenery is beautiful. Nice warm fire what else could you want!!
Ahhhhh I’m so excited to start my starter tomorrow. I wanna do it now but it’s midnight in Chicago & my sleeping husband would kill me if I woke him up 🤭🤭🤭
I love watching you guys. That bread looked so good, question how do you feed the yeast everyday?, do you have to add more water and flour? I want to make homemade bread.
Thanks so much! Feeding is just adding 50/50 flour and water. The more you feed, the bigger the starter will get! Can pop in the fridge to slow down the growth too and feed less. Happy baking 🍞
Is your sourdough bread tangy/sour (not sure that's the correct word)? I don't like the taste of sourdough in restaurants but yours look good. Also, you use so much flour, why don't you buy it in bulk from Costco?
Actually, the term Sourdough is a word to describe those of us who were born or lived here before statehood...... Local Alaskans use "sourdough" to describe anything and anyone with experience or longevity - even their fellow Alaskans. Referring to themselves and other long-time residents as "sourdoughs," the use is indicative of the sourdough's historic presence in Alaskan society.
Really enjoying this channel. Amy and Dennis are living my dream! Lots of great scenery and a wee taste of life in Alaska. I came to the comments to see if anyone else noticed the hands. It's distracting for us viewers, at least I find it so. But I get it -- it's hard to adjust your habits for the camera.

Yes we can! We have a foraging and fermenting video that shows step by step, and we will also be doing another preserving video soon. ❤️ thank you!
Hi, I’m not sure if I’ve missed the video but what is your power setup at the cabin?
Grouse is a tasty bird..
Yes it is!

❤️
Hi! What type of flour do you use for your bread and starter?
Hi there! I use unbleached all purpose organic flour.
❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉😊🎉❤
Hi guys!
Just wondering how you get your power?
Don’t see any lines or hear a generator
For now a diesel generator, but we have plans to get solar- as we had on our last homestead! We will show you all our self install!
❤
😊❤️
Is your sourdough bread tangy/sour (not sure that's the correct word)? I don't like the taste of sourdough in restaurants but yours look good. Also, you use so much flour, why don't you buy it in bulk from Costco?
Bulk is usually the way we go! If you feed more often, and don’t let it get too hungry- it’s not so tangy!
Do your chickens have heat in their coop?
They do not - just supplement light. It was built as a root cellar before we got here, so it stays nice and warm. ❤️
Good video but I will be sticking to McDonalds 👍
That’s a huge pressure cooker.. how big is it?
I believe it’s a 31 quart 😊
@ thing is a giant. thanks
Store bought turkeys? When I bought my property they left a turkey but I couldn’t kill him.
Unfortunately a store bought turkey!
How do you have an income ?
9:00
I made a boiled dinner on a potbelly stove
Yum!
@holdfastalaska yeah just took a long time to cook

You are correct! I’ve obviously heard it used in the wrong context 😂 thank you for the input and knowledge!
@@holdfastalaska No problem, wishing you all the best in your life in Alaska.
Why move in to the interior if you're afraid of wolves?
Not afraid of wolves; it was an interesting coincidence! If we were afraid of wolves or bears, we wouldn’t be here 🤣
If your hands were tied behind your back, you couldn't talk. Lol
🤣🤣

Why can't we simply view other's lives without being critical
Not much meat on that bird though.
The meat there was was delicious though! 😊
