    Ben Bikman looks like my son. Except my son isn't bald. He still has dark red hair. He's not a scientist like Dr. Bikman. He's a retired military vet now studying film making. He's really good. We named him Siddhartha, but his Navy friends renamed him Buck. Easier to say on a throat mike. He was a flight navigator. Not on the ground. He flew. That song from Le Miserables, "Bring Him Home" was my mind all the time he was deployed. I was in the Army. My six children were Army brats. (That's a term of endearment, not a slight in Army circles.) Five of them are now in the military. I have 26 grandchildren, not all living in the United States. None of them are in the military. Six have graduated. Some are in college. I'm old. This year, God willing, I will become a great-grandma. If I don't die first of hyperinsulinemia. Or anything else. I'm grateful for scientists like Ben Bikman, who share their knowledge.

    • @robinq5511
      @robinq5511 2 года назад +8

      I went carnivore too about 8 months ago and the first thing that changed was my glucose went up about 30 points. However, it seems to be coming down now (albeit slowly). Overcoming insulin resistance can take some time as your body adapts. Also my level of ketosis went down but now is better again. Regular intermittent fasting (16-18 hrs with occasional 24 hr fasts) I think has helped these numbers improve. And it may be age related as well as overall health as to how long this may take.

      I heard a doctor say that you dont pee a lot of ketones after some months, the body loves ketones and uses them all up! In the beginning you loose a lot of ketones in the urine. Later the body adapts, becomes efficient and almost no ketones goes to waste! Therfore they also say its no use to use urine strips for ketones after some months.

    I reduced my carbs the same way... 1 slice of toast instead of 2 with breakfast. Remove the club bun from my Big Mac, then the top bun a few months later on and on. Remove a scoop of pasta and put an extra helping of meat sauce or tomato's (this was in the beginning). Before I started reducing carbs I was always struggling with my weight, not fat but I was always chunky, fleshy. Now I am always slender, and sometimes struggle to put weight on, (unless I indulge in carbs). So now I'm trying to increase my animal fats to the point that my body has to store it. It's not easy.

    Hey hey. My n of 1 about the sun burn issue. Did a low seed oil experiment and do confirm seed oil role in inflammation. Heard it from tucker and tested it to the max. The way this was done was when i was already on keto. Even on LCHF I did get sun burn easiy as ever before and then the next year I did it with no seed oil full monty, even by exluding all non ruminant animal fats from the diet and ate pure ruminant carnivore that year and no no restaurant eating. My food was all self cooked Doing this, I did not get sun burn ever no matter how long I spent under the sun at the most radiant times possible in the early spring season.
    The difference is like day and night so must say it absolutely matters how much 4HNE your body stores in your epidermis.
    Best yet If you drink a cup of sunflower oil or eat a pound of pork fat, this will reverse everything in a day. It took a whole year to get back on track ie. into no sunburn mode. It is this serious. Ben, I do not belive you too have done this experiment. Sorry no disrespect here.

So because I take it before bed, while most people's insulin is going down at night while they sleep because theyre fasting, mine goes up. Thank you Ben, for outing the Canadian medical system. Every doctor I know in my former country sought medical care in the US for themselves and their families. It wasn't the lack of good doctors. It's the lack of resources for those doctors, the inability to get your patients timely critical care and the limits on the care they can provide based on what the beancounters in Ottawa allow. Canadians are just as unhealthy as Americans but spend less on healthcare because the care amount and type is throttled.

Once I get my insulin and blood glucose down, I can relax that and add in a few wholemeal carbs, that raise glucose more slowly, but to get it right it needs cutting.

      No…. Your brain has to ADAPT to burning fat AGAIN. If the body hasn’t become fat adapted your brain becomes TOO hungry & your new way of eating will fail. Dr Ben says hunger always wins. It needs to be gradual…. Try again if you didn’t make it the first or 50th time. If you get really hungry, go make a big steak every single time. And NO snacking. As Dr Rob Cywes says, “snacking is an EMOTIONAL event!”

    He says chop the whole thing down hut said earlier that your brain is looking for glucose then secondarily for ketones. The root of insulin resistance in the long term is the overconsumption of fats. Look at natural bodybuilders and youll see that their fat macros are under 60g and eating 30% protein 65% carbs. The key is knowing the demand for our bory and to feed it the associated supply of nutrients. Your body will use it the carbohydrates so the blood sugar will be stable and your use the fat so that you arent over saturated contributing to insulin resistance.

    1:29:54 I'm so glade you consider psychiatry a scam cause as a science your diagnoses should come at similar results across the board but as some know you can go to 12 different psychiatrists and receive multiple different diagnoses

    Hey, Saifedean! I see new releases on RUclips but not on your podcast. I prefer to listen. Why aren’t the new ones showing on my Overcast app? The last was #123 from July 26th. What’s up?

      I had a Korean friend in college who got diabetes. His doctor told him he couldn't eat rice... He cried. Anyways, I think the winning strategy is to fast for 16 hours per day, and that will do more to improve health than cutting out rice. It's called 16/8 intermittent fasting. I've been doing it myself and it's working, I'm losing weight.

      I believe there is nothing wrong with eating rice. But these days people eat pasta rice with lots of fat especially seed oils. There is no single grow up animal in this planet which eat high fat and high carbohydrate food at the time, so this must tells you something fundamental about animal energy metabolism.
