  • Tig'rr is a compact roller coaster at Indiana Beach and the park's oldest operating coaster. This is a Schwarzkopf Jet Star 1 that was located from Holiday Beach in Georgia. The ride has some feisty drops and good turns.

    About 39 years ago I rode the Jet Star at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. It was one of my first (if not THE first) rollercoasters I ever rode.
    Just a few hours ago, I was at IB and got to ride it twice. Still delivers just as it did back then.

    This was my first Schwarzkopf ever, and it’s a great example as to why Schwarzkopf is my favorite manufacturer now. If their rides aren’t an out of this world experience, they’ll at least be excellent.

    I rode a classic Jet Star back in 1972 at the Prater in Vienna, Austria when I was there teaching for a year. It was the first time I had ever seen a steel coaster. That first banked U-turn and the helix were thrilling to me at the time and unlike anything I had experienced on a wooden coaster. I may have to travel to Indiana Beach to ride this again in the 50+ years since my first ride.

    The first time I rode a classic Schwarzkopf Jet Star was back in 1972 at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Back then it was pretty amazing just as the coaster renaissance began.

    I rode one at Knobels in Elysburg, Pa. It was removed in the late 80's. Loved this coaster!!

    My brother wife and I were on this, and we zoomed right through the break station. Came up fast on the people loading up in the other train. Lucky the girl pulled the hand break & screamed omg I thought y'all were gonna die 😂😂

    The closet i have ridden was "the new beast" which was at Alton Towers in the 90s. If memory serves, it was right next to Thunder Looper, which was a Schwarzkopf shuttle looper. I have fonder memories of Thunder Looper thats for sure.

    Cornball was not open today so I had the most fun riding this coaster today, of the rest of the coasters there. I love my Anton’s.

      Interesting. It was closed for me 2 weeks ago. They were working on the brakes. I wonder if it has been closed all that time.

      @@CanobieCoaster They were laying new wood down on a tiny section of track. Looked like a job that could be completed in a day, but I had to get back home a couple hours before close and they probably weren’t gonna finish it at the rate they were going yesterday. I bet it’s open on the 4th.

    This looks very similar to an s.d.c. galaxi model. Cool stuff thanks!

    I grew up on the Jet Star in Seaside Heights before it was replaced by the Star Jet that fell into the ocean during Sandy in 2012

    I wasn't allowed to ride the JS2 at Lagoon as I was on my own. I just felt too weird to ask a stranger to ride with me, especially a girl. But this was no issue for single riders (although I missed it at last visit, it was the visit before some years ago). I thought it was kinda fun. Kind of. I am not a fan of small compact Schwarzkopf coasters, for example the defunct Cedar Point Wildcat which was one of the tall builds in the genre, did nothing for me (if it had 2 car trains I bet it would have been great in the back car, but as it was it just didn't do anything). Yeah I agree with you, Tig'rr is a 6, just. But no grey out for me, not even remotely. I remember all my grey out moments and so far it's only really been Goliath at SFMM and SFOT Titan. And oddly, Superman in Australia, but not always.
    PS Yes I realise Lagoon is a Jet Star 2 and this is a 1.

      Yeah this one is brutal if you're visiting solo. It's really awkward finding another rider with that seating position.

    So how would you compare this to the only other Schwarzkopf Jet Star 1 you've experienced? Both were the same model, they featured the same drop and the same turns.

      Nightmare was enclosed (making it hard to brace) and rougher

    Better than a Jet star 2 but not as good as a jest star 3 imo. (although I've only ridden the 1st 2) 2 at Playland in Vancouver in the late 70s or early 80s and 1 at Vienna Prater in '83. Thanks for posting!

    You know I’m surprised you said this coaster even had airtime because the cars lack up stop wheels, or even side friction wheels. If you don’t believe me, than take a look at the underneath of the cars and you’ll see. Only a metal bracket keeps the car on the track.

    • @CanobieCoaster
      @CanobieCoaster  2 месяца назад

      Interesting! But I did get a pop in the back half of the car.

    • @CoastOut
      @CoastOut 2 месяца назад

      Well I mean you can still get airtime without the wheels leaving the track. Ejector airtime is when up stop wheels are really necessary. If you look at 1:18 you can see how it bearly lifts of the track.
      The lack of side friction wheels also means all the Jet Star coasters have to bank unnatural hard at the bottom of their drop so that the road running wheels can steer around the turns. This shows how brilliant of a ride engineer Anton Schwarzkopf was to create a ride that only required 4 road running wheels on its trains.

    I to have experienced Nightmare. I believe that one in the beginning ran 3 cars max but that didn’t help its capacity. Being that it was an indoor dark coaster made the wait times worse on top of a questionable reliability.

    • @CanobieCoaster
      @CanobieCoaster  2 месяца назад

      That ride was an awful experience. Did it once and wouldn't wait again.

    What do you think Tig'rr would be like if it was indoors like Nightmare?

    • @CanobieCoaster
      @CanobieCoaster  2 месяца назад

      May be a tad uncomfortable if it were dark and you couldn't brace for the turns.
