Umer Farooq lol dude bloodborne has nothing to offer in terms of world building, story or characters in relation to TW3. Combat is the typical dark souls stuff with slight modifications so what’s your point?
Boo you. I did not feel something was "off". It all worked great for me. Most fun I've had with an open world game since Breath Of the Wild and Red Dead 2.
The hordes in this game are quite impressive. I think that is the game's selling point and what makes it unique compared to other games. There are similar games like Dying Light, State of Decay, Dead Island, Dead Rising, etc, but none have hordes coming at you like this game. To say it does nothing special sounds disingenuous. If not for WWZ that just released a couple weeks prior, it would be the only zombie game of its kind. It's basically Mad Max with zombies.
@@hammadkhan450 Which one? WWZ? I haven't played it yet. It didn't get great reviews either. I likely will enjoy it too since I can play with my friend.
This game wasn't perfect but damn fun and extremely entertaining. I can't wait for part 2. Good job Bend studio. P.s The driving was awesome. This was the best motorcycle driving game I can remember playing.
100% agree! I understand that technically it's average, and don't really disagree with Luke's assessment, but the "fun factor" was really high for me somehow (especially the driving!). Wound up completing literally everything in the game on hard and instead of being burnt out or having a sense of closure I still want more... it's very odd.
@@thehyperionjanitor747LOL! Pal, you're free to disagree with what the man says, but don't go around saying "his opinion is shit". You sound entitled and butthurt when you say crap like that.
I'm happy to see I'm not the only one who feels this way about Days Gone. I played for 10 hours, got extremely bored and deleted it. So glad I didn't have to pay for it.
@@jacobsaks5891 yeah I’ve seen it. I’m glad he finally had fun with the game, but the flaws are too huge for me. Boring story, average voice acting, repetitive gameplay and dull level design. I’d rather replay TLOU 2 instead. Heck, if I just want to ride around in a motorcycle I’ll boot up GTA, at least they give us unlimited fuel.
That exact description guts the last of us, and the thing is that came first... And did it better, athat makes this game not original at all, the only thing is the name freakers, that's about as original as this game gets
@@digsmcfury9697 the first one had really good gunplay but they pushed it off to the side for rdr2. Which idk why. As a game about an outlaw, shooting should be smooth as butter
Yeah I don't really get why I see so many people praising this game, same thing with Rage 2. Kinda feel like it's just the lack of anything else new coming out and people are desperate to keep boredom at bay.
Games are partly about keeping boredom at bay as well as escapism and being a hobbyist. People play things for different reasons and enjoy different things which is why I don't let a youtuber tell me whether or not a game is good or bad. I take their opinion into mind and do my own research. If I spend $60 on a game and don't like it then that's on me I don't blame the developer or anyone else for that matter.
It is laughable to claim Day's Gone doesn't do anything well, when your argument is that it doesn't match up to the absolute best games in the industry. Do you also think a student getting an A- didn't do well, just because he didn't get A+?
Unlisted he’s such a hypocrite. He praises the Witcher over and over again (a game I love btw) but to not point out the glaring “flaws” of a game like that and yet rip days gone for the same “flaws” is such a joke.
@@sacredbeastzenon If that's the argument, then Luke should be putting it up against much worse games than the likes of Witcher 3 and The Last of Us when he's trying to prove his point. What he's done here is a pointless comparison, because most people would never claim it's as good as those games; they just think it's a good, fun game.
One of the best games I've ever played. The gameplay is engaging. The story is pretty damn good. The world is alive. Love it! Don't care what anyone else says
I don't think one of ur main critiques, which is that its features are done in other games, is sound. If it were, then it would apply to other games well. For example, that there is crafting is Days Gone is true but there is crafting in most open world games. If it is a negative for Days Gone, it has to be a negative for Horizon Zero Dawn, Breath of the Wild, and Red Dead Redemption. It cannot be bad in Days Gone simply because it is in other games. Also, the script and voice acting isn't perfect, but its is vastly better than Horizon Zero Dawn. The thing about criticizing something for being generic is that it amounts to criticizing a genre for existing. To criticize Days Gone because it plays like an open world third-person shooter is to just criticize open world third-person shooters. Generic features in genres exist because those are the features of that genre and they exist in a generic way because they work and are widely enjoyed. Generic isn't really a negative. It is in fact a positive because it means that a game has features that work and are widely enjoyed. Criticizing Days Gone because it has crafting in it is like criticizing Super Mario because it has platforms in it - as if platformers shouldn't have platforms because all other platformers have platforms. And criticizing a game because things grow in the same place sounds desperate. They grow in the same place in Breath of the Wild but no sensible reviewer will criticize Breath of the Wild for not randomizing the location of resources. In fact I think it could be seen as a positive feature that players are rewarded for coming to know the world that they play in. For me me the real problem with the overly harsh treatment of this game is that these reviews lack an appreciation for what is accomplished with this game. You claim that the bike and gun-play are terrible but I disagree. At first both of these seem too loose, but as u upgrade them, things get really good. The bike feels great to drive in the late game and it feels off in the early game because in the early game its not much of a bike - its suppose to feel that way. I thought the shooting was pretty good. Not the best but not bad. Let me name 5 features that made Days Gone one of the best games of the year so far. 1. The enemies do not simply exist to be killed. They are living characters in the world. To use Breath of the Wild as an example again. Though BOTW lacked enemy variety, the enemies were living creatures in Hyrule. They slept, they hunted, and they danced. This is how a next gen open world should be built. Days Gone is exactly the same. The freaker hordes have a schedule. They sleep during the day, they can be found drinking from lakes and rivers occasionally. If u observe them, u can see that they cannibalize their own. This is not done in a lot of AAA games in which enemies are presented merely as a means of gaining XP. 2. Days Gone fixes the "interior problem." Most video games that I have played do not let you go in very many buildings or just do not have many buildings to go into. GTA V is probably among the top 5 games ever made but you can probably only go in 1% of the buildings in the game. Red Dead did a lot better with this as you can go into just about any building on the map but when you get to St. Denis, u are constantly reminded that you are playing a video game with structures that only exist to make u feel like u are in a big city. Days Gone, has a large amount of buildings, and when u see one in the distance, u know that it is worthwhile to check it out because u are guaranteed to discover something on the inside. Structures in Days Gone do not exist as cutouts, but as dynamic detailed living environments that, if examined closely, tell the story of being abandoned, looted, lived in again, and then abandoned. Like a good open world game, Days Gone tells stories through it's environments. 3. The Motorcycle is an original and enjoyable feature of Days Gone. U can upgrade and customize ur bike. Many people find this to be one of the most enjoyable features of Days Gone as I did. What is generic is riding on horses such as we find in Witcher 3 , Red dead 2, and Breath of the Wild. I don't fault those games as horses are fitting for the setting. However, this is a perfect example of where Days Gone steps back from the mold, does something original and very well, and does not receive credit. 4. Hordes are fascinating and the reason why this game has sold so well. They are a technological achievement for console gaming and something we have not seen in console gaming. Days Gone deserves credit for its originality not to mention they are a blast to fight. 5. The last thing I'll mention about Days Gone that I really liked was how it gave you an open world to explore while secretly holding back a third of the map until the late game. Many open world games can feel less interesting in the late game because You have already explored and have seen the whole map. I suppose this would go under the category of pacing and progression. Days Gone holds back a huge portion of the map until about 2/3rds of the game creating a new sense of discovery and exploration in the late game. This is rarely achieved in open world games and was refreshing.

The problem with it is finding fuel for your bike is essential but on missions with another rider, your fuel amount doesn't even matter! Wtf? What I think everyone tends to forget is that this the first AAA game this developer has made themselves (previously they'd port titles or help finish other titles). I agree that it faulters alot but for a first go id say it's pretty impressive. Looking forward to these guys's improvement
Yeah, their last one was an Uncharted spin-off card game released way back 2007. I'd give them the praise they need to though because I love this game.
I'm having a lot of fun with Days Gone. Can't explain it, but it's becoming a personal favorite. I don't think it's fair to compare games with the triad of awesome: The Last of Us, God of War, Witcher 3. I mean, not all games excel at that level. This is more in the range of Spider-Man. Although not as polished. But still a lot of fun. I've been playing it for a while now. Unfortunately the game doesn't tell you time spent playing, but possibly in the range of 25 to 30 hours. And the story is actually engrossing. The characters quite memorable. Traversing the world on bike is a ton of fun. I just enjoy spending time in that world. It's not that vast. It's not that complex. Certainly not as responsive as the world of RDR2, but again, that game is unparalleled. But Days Gone is still a ton of fun, its environment is quite detailed, and the way it changes with dynamic weather, rain, strong winds, snow, is possibly the best I've ever seen. I don't know what's wrong with people that so many reviewers decided to trash this game. I mean, there are annoyances and reasons for criticism. Tech problems like frame rate issues now and then. And silly things, like Deek's voice over during missions, sometimes quite intrusive. But for what it does well, it's comendable. I'd give it a 7.5, meaning good, with some technical problems. But there's a ton of potencial here, to make Days Gone 2 a real possibility of achieving greatness.
Majima Goro you obviously haven’t played doom, shadow warrior 2 or any fps for that matter. Can’t base your judgment off games like cod, come on now. Plus FPS games were met for mouse and keyboard.
@@thegoodsenator2855 played the demo for doom, its just another FPS game imo. Adding different melee takedowns doesn't make much of a difference. Again in my opinion

I think saying it's not AAA is too harsh. While it's true that the game isn't groundbreaking, it's still a polished (I'm playing with update 1.08 on ps4 and it's pretty smooth) open-world with some unique design choices. The characters feel unique as well. Camp leaders like Iron Mike and Tucker feel more like real people than a lot of other post-apocalyptic characters. Also, I give the game points for not throwing too many sidequests or map blips. You can go from main mission to main mission and the game is still a 20-30 hour experience. Also, no micro or other cosmetic padding. You gotta give points for that too.
@@hornybastard3034 true, but the industry is what it is, and when developers dont succumb to that greed, it's worth praising. And the louder the praise gets, the less micro we will see.
Shows how far the industry has fallen to give points for a game not having micro-transactions when 10 years ago that was the standard, and was expected.
What is it with Luke kicking underappreciated games down like this? The Saboteur and Days Gone may not be GOTY material but neither are worth all this bad PR.
I’ve really enjoyed my time with Days Gone. I do agree with everything Luke is saying, however, I sort of take the fun approach with it. It lacks the extreme level of polish we’ve all come to expect, but it’s fun. I have tons of fun with the horde killing. I had fun with the trope laden, albeit endearing, story. I had fun with RPG lite elements. Is it GOTY quality? Not even close. Is it up to par with other AAA Sony exclusives? Nope. But is it fun? Yes and that alone is what makes me happy with the 60 dollar investment. Great video as always Luke. You still continue to cement yourself as a truly top tier creator.
That’s how I felt and still feel about Mad Max. Repetitive and lacking in many ways, but I had fun with it and, were I in another Mad Max mood, would still have fun with it. There’s enough there for some light role-playing, and the gameplay is simple and fun. Sometimes that’s all a game really needs to be: fun.
Now while it's true that you have compared the game against other candidates such as last of us and briefly god of war, you still haven't explained why the game fails to deliver on these points that you've mentioned. Maybe this couldn't be discussed over the span of a 15 minute video but it sure is lacking.
Its actually GOTY in my opinion, yeah, i said it. The main storyline is brilliant. The characters are so damn interesting, aswell as the freakers. This game is the only "zombie" game out there to actually have interesting zombies in it.
I thought the worldbuilding was fantastic - the thing that most held the game back was the fact that it was an exclusive. It makes little sense because it's not a recognized IP - nobody is going to buy a fucking Playstation to get Day's Gone. It's the kind of game that only works as an exclusive if it debuts with a brand new system - but it didn't. Big misstep on Sony's part, even if it was created by a in-house studio.
To say it doesn’t do anything well is a bit of a stretch imo. Is it perfect? No it’s not but it does story telling very well in my opinion. It starts off slow just like red dead redemption 2 does and then picks up. I think we’ve been so spoiled by Sony exclusives lately that when one comes along slightly lower than the others it’s a problem.
I never played it personally so I’m probably already overstepping my bounds here. But I just don’t appreciate the fact that you have an alleged member of a biker gang as the main character and rather than any rival biker gangs or a game about biker gangs which hasn’t really been done to death like zombies (freakers) have they do a zombie game. The game is probably fine but couldn’t they have attempted something new of any sort. Hopefully the sequel will have rival biker gangs that tie the main character to the back of their bikes and drive off. IDK or at least something interesting.
@@VidanoMano why wouldn't you be defensive over something you grown to love? My dad dosen't need to be developer of the game for me to like it you know..
Luke I do not care what you think. I am still going to buy this game at full price and support Sony Bend Studio. I hope we get a Day's Gone 2 and unleash the true potential of this new IP from Sony
Bend Studio is a quarter of the size of any of sonys other studios and this is their first major console game since Syphon Filter. I feel the story was done well and the bike felt like it had weight and was fun to ride. The load times cuts to black and more may be a problem for some but i am not impatient hell i remember when games had a lot worse in terms of loading etc. I agree the world could of used more depth and the guns and shooting could use some work but for a team not pushing themselves to 100 hour work weeks like god of war and red dead 2s developers did i respect it. Playing red dead 2 now is hard because i know how many people were hurt in the process of making it. God of wars docu video on its development had people explain that they sacrificed their home life to make a video game. Frankly if the cost of a game like god of war and red dead 2 and more is peoples life and work balance and mental health then that cost is to high. What Bend Studio has done is make a game within their studios limits without pushing their workforce to the bone to do so and i respect that.
its been the only game that got me asking where has my Days Gone. This game does become 10 times better if you imagine the main character is snake plissken because it honestly feels like what the last of us would be if John Carpenter wrote the screen play and Kurt Russell was kidnapped to star in it .
I was supposed to buy RDR2 over this the other day but it was sold out so I had to make a decision, I bought it and I never regretted it. I'm only 3-4 missions in, I got sucked in into exploring the world and killing freakers which I really enjoy because there's this "creep" or adrenaline factor I get when I do so. The storyline might get a little confusing so you really need some time to wrap your head around it, there's also undeniably quite an amount of bugs but updates/patches are released quite often so it was lessened compared to the launch version. I can say that this is a good alternative to the hole that was left by The Last Of Us, the game isn't perfect and I think people just overhyped this that's why they're disappointed. There's still a long story ahead of me so I can't wait to play it more later today. Hope they'll add more content into it!
Calm down, that game store is the only one in my area. The other is like 6km away, don't worry though, I just sold some of my older games and I'm planning to get RDR2 later this week ;)
Incorrect - it has EXCELLENT world-building. You can say what you want about everything else, but some fucking thought went into the setting and the world of Day's Gone. The infection in this game quickly unseated the Cordyceps from Last of Us as my favorite video game 'zombie virus' - it's a very nuanced thing and (SPOILER) tackles the concept of intelligence among the 'mutants' as well as the virus infecting animals, which most other games don't touch on in the interest of simplicity or the difficulty of having to consider these things in terms of gameplay. If nothing else, I LOVED the world of Days Gone and my favorite part of the game is the part where you're staying at Iron Mike's, because it had the most character interaction and world building. I just thought Deacon's (I grew to like the character, though I thought him a whiny bitch at first) core motivation - going after Sarah - it just made him seem like a High Schooler who's going through his first bad break-up. Fucking dumb if you ask me, he's grizzled biker it just doesn't fit his character to be so single-minded about it.
I’ve been playing Days gone as well and have some thoughts. Bend made a very “safe” game. Like you said it doesn’t do anything well but borrows heavily from other games and doesn’t do anything to shake up the formula. They didn’t take risks. They just took what worked from other games and put it into this one. What impresses me most about this game is the hordes. That’s something I give them credit for because I think it’s insane to have that many bodies on screen at once and not have a performance hitch on my base ps4. But it then confuses me when I’m riding through the forest and my game drops below 15 FPS and will lock up at times upwards of 3-5 seconds. Very inconsistent game but I do think it gets better the more you play it. First few hours are rough...
@@dragonzlucas actually you’re wrong Days Gone has that post apocalyptic vibe forcing you to conserve your ammo and aim for the head. You also have to actually strategize when your fighting hordes for example, you can’t just expect to mow down every single zombie without running out of ammo so you have to use bombs and grenades to break up the horde and try to aim for the head rather than in day Z you’re fighting 2000 zombies at once and all of them die instantly
Totally disagree! I felt the gun play to be authentic. ( improved with shooting skill tree) Narrative/ cinematography to be immersive, and the characters to be well written. Moreover, a niche survival horror zombie game such as this, in my opinion; is the best and perhaps the only well executed game on the market we have to date.
I just finished the story mode. And overall I thought the game was great. Although some of the mechanics is off, and the cross hairs for your guns shouldn't be white. If is snowing and your trying to shoot you cant see to aim at your target. But I enjoyed playing it and still got a few side missions left clear.
*Watches video, then see's the up vs down votes and scratches head* Why? Just...why? Oooooh right. People often don't bother to watch videos and only go by the title. Just like how they do when reading news articles and publications know that. Good video Luke, deserves better then what it got.
I did not like Days Gone for its first 8 hours but not after that and Im glad I stuck with it. I put alot of time into the game before beating it and would play it again for sure. Honestly I would give Days Gone a 8/10. My only issues outside of the lousy opening were sucky combat mechanics and some bugs just like The Witcher 3. Its not the most original but thats not an issue since it borrows well from a number of great games (The Last Of Us, Dying Light, Dead Island, Uncharted 4) rather then being a lame ripoff of a number of great games (Borderlands, Fallout: New Vegas, Elex, Mad Max) like Rage 2 is. Its Impressive for the first big game for a small studio. I respect your opinion though.
Let me get this straight Rdr2's flaws: 1) poor gameplay 2) poor mission design Days gone's flaws: 1)poor gameplay 2)poor mission design 3) poor open world design 4) poor writing and characters 5) poor optimization 6) poor quality 7) technical issues Now how can you exactly say that Rdr2 is as flawed as days gone. Go fuck yourself and your argument and get your fucking ass outta here
I played and beat Days Gone, then after that I played Rage 2. I really gotta say compared to R2 Day's Gone has a much more satisfying and well put together open world. I typically despise open world games but Days Gone was fun for what it was and I'll definitely play any DLC and just replay the game in general.
I heard that after about 20 hours, the gameplay changes so much and becomes far better. It just has a problem with game play pacing, to my understanding
At first I liked the idea of being limited on gear/gas and health. When u first start going out in the world there’s a lot of tension. But after awhile I got frustrated with gas running out and kinda thought the story/characters were boring
Love your videos bro. But gotta say, I don't agree with your assessment of this particular game. I felt like you played a very different game from the one I and a lot of people played. But still value your opinion and it was good to hear your thoughts about it.
I Loved the game! But I actually agree with pretty much everything said. Even though I really enjoyed the game to even get the platinum trophy-- I felt the game didn't reach it's full potential and some things really diminished the experience playing it. For example: 1)How long does it take for you to reach level 3 trust in all camps in order to buy the best guns and upgrades. I took all the time in the world doing every side mission and I pretty much reached level 3 only in 1 camp before I finished the story, then I reached it on the rest when there was no point on buying those guns because I've already finished all the missions in wich they would've been fun to use. 2)The black screen between cut scenes destroyed the flow of the narrative-- an aspect in wich The Last of Us and Uncharted really distinguished themselves by how well they did in that aspect. Sometimes it's not about how good the story but how well it's told and Days Gone disappointment me in that aspect even though I liked the story. All of that aside from the issues like the FPS drop just really proves that it didn't reach it's full potential and it could've been so much better by just excelling in those aspects.
You have an issue with Days Gone calling them Freakers and yet no issue with them never being called Zombies in The Last Of Us. And I'm calling it right now, you still won't when that new one comes out. Why is that?
@@venim3404 The overall narrative is better, yes, but not what explains the naming of the zombies. That's essentially the same in both. Clickers are clickers because they make clicking noises, and Freakers are freakers because they're freaky. It's as simple as that. I love The Last of Us and far more than I did Days Gone, but your giving it way to much credit here. It's not like it has some deep philisofical reason behind the naming of it's infected. Get off your high horse dude.
TheBloodyBaron I think you’re giving Days Gone way too much leeway when it comes to how it describes how the freakers are freakers in comparison to how the infected are infected in The Last of Us. In The Last of Us the game uses a scientific basis to name and explain said infected. With the disease creating the infected individuals being based on a real life strain of fungi that infects insects and makes them spore carriers for more of the same cycle. That to me not only shows far superior research and development but also, it opens up so many avenues for narrative, lore and, gameplay expansion in the future. When it comes to the name comparisons the Days Gone Freakers are clearly named from subjective standpoint and one that really wouldn’t be used by many people around the world at the time. It feeds into the question of what each group of survivors would call the zombies based on their own personal experiences with them. Whereas in The Last of Us its directly the opposite, due to the names being based off both a scientific and factual basis of infection characteristics/biology the world from a purely narrative standpoint is something that is more cohesive and believable as it seems to make the identification and classification of the infected in question more comparable for many different groups and characters all over the game world. This is one of the many things for me that The Last of Us does so much better than Days Gone as a post-apocalyptic survival game. However, to compare them is like comparing an orange to a tangerine. Both have their merits for different people with different taste and texture preferences.
Days gone had so much more potential but I feel sony is to heavy on it lesser games comparing them to horizon and titles alike I enjoyed this game a lot but I feel like they should have updated the games content more at the beginning once the put in new game plus it felt like the end was near a co-op system might be some of a revitalization but I'm not sure how that could be implemented all in all I hope that there will be a future to the days gone series
Story did drag on a bit I must admit, and the final O'Brain cutscene was what I was waiting for the entire time, but I loved the game... More enjoyed the gameplay because it's awesome. I agree with others in the comments, even considering it's flaws, it's great enough and fun enough to support Bend Studios and contribute to a sequel!
I've encountered some strange dynamic events... Mainly just a bunch of enemies or animals spawning in and fighting each other... so there is a bit more than just weather and the hordes. There's also the "?" that appear all over the map randomly. Which can be one of many events.
The motorcycle driving is only bad the first few hours because it’s supposed to be. You have to upgrade your bike to make it handle better. Once I did it became one of the best mechanics in the game for me.
Not everything, but most things. It does have atrocious load times, and far too frequent frame rate drops; but in about 40+/- hours, I only got about 4 major glitches, and only one made me reset the game, so easily forgivable. (As far as a regular PS4 is concerned, probably better on a Pro).
@@dianuevo8925 Are you on a Pro? For me, frame rates were hell when the screen got particularly busy, especially on the motorcycle, sometimes felt like it was moving in slow motion. I also had to reset the game one time because it suddenly started moving like a clip show completely. And 30 seconds is far from non-existent in this day and age (more like a minute from my experience), and especially tedious when you'd get a loadtime, a short scene, and then another load time. Also, my generation is the NES generation, judging things by the current standards, not what I expect from a 20 year old game. Also, the weapon wheel is shit, they didn't put you firmly enough in each category, so go for items at the edge would often switch to the next category, biggest problem with the game. I loved the game, I Platinum'd the game, it did MOST things well, but it did have a few negatives that really held it back. Knocked it down from an 8-9 to a 7-8 for me.
@@dianuevo8925 Bit hard to believe you're one of the only people to experience absolutely none of the technical issues (one of the main criticisms from even the positive reviews), but I guess I've seen stranger things (both seasons). Wish I had your luck. I mean even rendering I found sporadic at best in my playthrough, about 25% of the cutscenes stuff like tattoos or clothing details were absent (well, more like undefined, like a PS2 game). First time things went PS2 I was riding my bike, got a chuckle, until I road over a bridge and fell through. None of it was enough to stop me from playing (my favorite was when I jumped a waist high barrier, and then found myself launched 60 feet in the air and fell to my death, one of those you can't even be mad at, it was so comical), I loved the game, but of the big releases in the past year, I had my most issues with this one.
Highly disagree. It isn't perfect and has its flaws but it's still highly enjoyable with some great characters and intriguing narrative. It does start off slow for the first few hours but when the story starts to pick up you gradually get more invested and curious about what's going on. It's not groundbreaking per se but a lot of the reviews it's been getting from critics have been quite unfair I think. Despite some flaws it's still a pretty cool game. I'm really enjoying it...more than I thought I would actually.
I wasnt with you till you mentioned a really good point. The game IS set at a price point that competes with red dead and god of war, spiderman etc. As someone who bought world war z and friday the 13th (day 1 for both) I could see why they were priced at $39.99. The games were incomplete BUT with a road map for continued growth and kind of a work in progress theme. To me, I dont really Harp on price because I buy alot of games and its my main hobby so if im spending on a ton of money on mediocre games its not the biggest deal in the world to me BUT I also dont want this to be the influencing trend. You are correct in saying that it sets a precedent when you get 10 out of 10 games like god of war and red dead set at $60 then you get this at 60. I cant judge it as well as you because I am not finished with the game but I think ive seen enough and watched enough videos to know that you are correct in saying its not a $60 game. I think its more of a $40 game and thats OK. But you also have to remember, first party titles from Sony and Nintendo are ALWAYS set at the $60 price point no matter what the quality is (microsoft seems to be a bit more flexible with some games priced at $30 like state of decay 2). I just feel that we are super harsh on alot of games and as quality continues to get better in gaming we forget that a lot of turds are constantly released @ the $60 price point when they dont deserve to be put on the same shelf or display case as other $60 games and thats NOT how I would describe days gone at all.I cant expect every zom....errr...freaker... game that comes out to be the same quality as last of us. Its kind of like having children or employees in the sense that you know who is capable of getting an A+ and who is not. Sometimes you just have to be happy when a C or D student manages to get a B. This game, while not an A+ is a pretty good game and is fun (so far, for me anyways). I am interested in seeing where the story ends up going, the control are about the same as the last of us so no big complaint there for me. The visuals are nice, not the best but not bad by any measure. The melee combat is better than state of decay 2 but not exactly god of war or assassins creed odyssey level or anything but they work. I just think people are being extremely hard on this game because it is a sony exclusive and those tend to be the most polished games that playstation puts out.
This is honestly the best zombie game I’ve seen in awhile. Yeah, it’s not exactly an RPG like I prefer and it has some problems, but the biker gang theme and just hearing the sound of that motorcycle combined with Mad Max-style refueling and repair gives it a bonus from me.
i prefer to judge art based on its own merits because if its all contingent on comparison to the best ever, then ill always be disappointed, because honestly i enjoyed days gone more than rdr2, but i can still appreciate rdr2 for what it is.. gameplay is often paramount to everything else in my mind, and by that metric, days gone blows rdr2 away.. one more thing, i thought the bike and weapons handled great once i upgraded once or twice and by the endgame i loved the feel of combat and the bike.. to each their own though.. i think pubg has the best gunplay of any shooter and i know die hard fps players who hate that game so..
Red Dead Redemption 2 started to just feel like a chore a certain way in and I didn't even bother to finish it. Red Dead 1 I was way more fond of honestly and I feel like I went into 2 with rose tinted glasses. It wasn't a bad game by any stretch of the imagination but it didn't live up to the hype either.
Coming back here after Girlfriend Reviews took shots at this thing. It's kind of discouraging yet also expected that many GamersTM are saying this game is how Last of Us 2 should be when this game's story and characters are the epitome of so much wrong with storytelling in games. The pacing is cobbled together at whatever rate, none of the characters are that distinguished from what you can find in another big games ten years ago, and what does it really say with the world and people it has crafted by the end? It's like another generic Ubisoft script for a new Assassin's Creed got lost and accidentally became a free-roaming zombie game. It can't even bare to be something that's so bad it's good. Like even of you don't like Last of Us Part 2, at least give it credit it was willing to go to higher places and deal with more potent ideas even if it didn't stick the landing to you. And you want to talk about being stuck in 2015? Deacon's character is written like somebody is stuck in 1985. I love how his only defining characteristic is that he doesn't flinch at danger.
What do you mean days gone hasn't done anything better than any other game?? The zombie horde and how it works is better than anything I've seen in other zombie games
@@ijustwantmyphonecall6947 I never felt like I was ever in any insane amount of danger in Dying Light as much and as I love the game I prefer the horde system they just needed more larger hordes.
Hey Luke, I don't know if you'll see this, but I wanted to give you my two cents. This is one of your best videos to come out lately in my opinion. I've always liked your content, but I feel like sometimes your critiques and thoughts can get a little bogged down because you like to really hammer home individual points, inflating the length of the video unnecessarily. However, lately your videos have been growing in efficiency and focus which makes for a much better viewing experience. This video I feel has a really good balance of well spoken points, as well as a good pace and structure. Keep it up man! You have to potential to be the mkbhd of video games no doubt.
I'm confused by how you say you "enjoyed" the game while at the same time thinking it did literally NOTHING well. Then what exactly did you enjoy about it?
@@smurphftw2008 It does make sense when you realize that enjoyment isn't the point of the video, but moreso the technical aspects of something. It is a comparison of statistics more than a comparison of how it makes you feel.
You have to be shallow to think this game doesn't do anything well. Also Deacon is in my opinion, one of the best well painted characters we have had in a while in gaming.
I played this game for 13 hours and I dreaded to play it even for a single minute more. This is the most boring game ever made now it hates me to say this being a PC and a PlayStation gamer all my life but this game is just boring. The good moments are rare and it takes too long for those moments to come. I agree with the review now so it's always better to play the game yourself and then write a comment so that you can see why they reviewed it as an average game.
I think I'm gonna give it up now after 20+ hrs & only half way through the story! It's just Boring! I'd rather have much shorter game, tight pace than this!
I agree, the game is alright, it is not bad, could be enjoyable and worth your time but nothing exceptional, the same way I feel Ubisoft open world game imo like Far Cry or Ass
I would argue both of those do have some more variety on how to best handle any given situation, but yes their still not what I would consider actual 'AAA' games like the ones Sony has been delivering more frequently though AC and FC does seem to try to give you free regin over the type of experience you want. My biggest issue is the bike, I will stop mid-mission to do a clear out zone just to save gas and I fast travel a lot just so I know that I can handle a rather long ride to a quest location. So more loading, less chance of random interactions. The bike should feel like an extension, not far cry 2 weapon degradation system or feel like an escort mission but with an object. I actually bumped the game down to easy after 10 hours and found myself enjoying it more. Not that I couldn't do it before and it doesn't make the A.I easier but it makes headshot a guaranteed kill. I got a pretty good amount of upgrades, weapons and tried to take a horde that had an injector inside it. I used every weapon I had and there were still 2 dozen left with only a knife to kill them. I can feel I'm meant to come back later but when it doesn't really reward exploration that well, you end up wanting to finish off so that you won't have to return. Sure it looks really good and I don't expect RDR2 or TLOU story quality but if the gameplay had felt as solid as TLOU it could have been slightly above average. In the end, the game cost me 15 bucks to play and I had some fun moments, if the story had been better, maybe have some firewatch walkie-talkie options if not Boozer as a constant A.I companion I would be tempted to finish it but after almost 20 hours I feel like I know exactly what the rest of the game will be like. Probably some cool set-piece moments that I haven't seen but that I have played before in better games. Edit: Too those who think it's cheating to turn down the difficulty, I've beaten DS3 and Sekiro, so I can handle difficult games I just don't like when a game I'm only partially invested in pads the runtime with :p
Days gone was the most depressing “exclusive” not in the sense that the story was sad it’s that people think it’s now and underrated gem that should be praised for doing nothing new or improving on anything games similar have done. Sunset overdrive is an underrated gem. And it’s on Xbox and pc. It has no technical issues, the game does a lot of the Deadpool like humor with gameplay and story that reinvents the wheel for zombie games and parkour games and you wouldn’t have your spiderman exclusive without what insomniac learned from making sunset overdrive with the movement being very similar.
i'm around 2 and a half hours in and i have to admit, being low on ammo and health after clearing an area out and heading to your next destination only to have a sniper or gang of some kind kill you isn't exactly fun. i might suck, but the game does have a pretty bad first impression so far
I think the question we should be answering is "Can't we have fun woth ok games?" sometimes I feel people expext every game to be the Next WitcherIII or God of War, we should start reviewing games based on its fun factor, I mean, days gone might just borrow things from other games but does it matter isf it is fun? at least for a couple dozen of hours you are just playig and having fun, NOT EVERY GAME NEEDS TO BE A MASTERPIECE.
Fighting hordes is infuriating. All it takes it to get surrounded and you are dead. Sometimes there is no hordes left or right.... but when you burn the nest SUDDENLY HORDE SPAWNS BEHIND THE PLAYER.... so bad
Dang, you REALLY posted this sounding like you played the whole game. I appreciate you posting that apology vid, I thought you just hated it. I heard it was a slow start so I expected as much. I'm very happy with my purchase. Between this and mastering dmc5, I'll be set for a good while. Easily til november.
All they had to do was turn down the survival mechanics about 70%. This game could have been epic if you didn't have to fill you gas tank every ten minutes, run out of bullets in the blink of an eye, only be able to carry three throwables, not be able to properly aim your weapon, lose your stamina in ten seconds, so on an so forth. Being out numbered with only a handful of bullets is only fun for the first few times. After that, it's simply annoying.

It is laughable to claim Day's Gone doesn't do anything well, when your argument is that it doesn't match up to the absolute best games in the industry. Do you also think a student getting an A- didn't do well, just because he didn't get A+?

Awesome rebuttal. Very well said and I agree with you 💯
Great and on point analysis of the game👍🏼

Great game loved it.
Koweden Thanks for providing your thorough elaboration to explain why you feel that way.
What is it with Luke kicking underappreciated games down like this? The Saboteur and Days Gone may not be GOTY material but neither are worth all this bad PR.
@@habadasheryjones he's just giving his opinion, don't get so defensive about some average game from 2009
I’ve really enjoyed my time with Days Gone.
I had more fun with Days Gone then RDR2
LOL with SEKIRO out ? You must be Delusional.
I think the lack of enemy variety was a weak point, if the game can constantly throw new enemies at you then it can be very scary and interesting
Fuzzy Dunlop most people already have a PlayStation now, this is coming from a pc gamer.
Journey awaits lack is enemies? What do you mean bud? :)
To say it doesn’t do anything well is a bit of a stretch imo. Is it perfect? No it’s not but it does story telling very well in my opinion. It starts off slow just like red dead redemption 2 does and then picks up. I think we’ve been so spoiled by Sony exclusives lately that when one comes along slightly lower than the others it’s a problem.
pretty much yeah
I never played it personally so I’m probably already overstepping my bounds here. But I just don’t appreciate the fact that you have an alleged member of a biker gang as the main character and rather than any rival biker gangs or a game about biker gangs which hasn’t really been done to death like zombies (freakers) have they do a zombie game. The game is probably fine but couldn’t they have attempted something new of any sort. Hopefully the sequel will have rival biker gangs that tie the main character to the back of their bikes and drive off. IDK or at least something interesting.

If this game does anything well, I'd say the feeling of dread when the horde music swells gets me every time, and thats what I would buy a sequel for.

The only thing I thought was good about the game was the graphics.
Incorrect - it has EXCELLENT world-building. You can say what you want about everything else, but some fucking thought went into the setting and the world of Day's Gone. The infection in this game quickly unseated the Cordyceps from Last of Us as my favorite video game 'zombie virus' - it's a very nuanced thing and (SPOILER)
tackles the concept of intelligence among the 'mutants' as well as the virus infecting animals, which most other games don't touch on in the interest of simplicity or the difficulty of having to consider these things in terms of gameplay.
This game is one of my favorite games of all time. Right along with rdr2.

On PS5, I haven't seen 1 bug in 20hrs of gameplay! The game is still mediocre mind! lol
But the hoards are even done better in the new World War Z game. Days Gone officially has nothing lmao.
dragonzlucas oh really? I haven’t seen much of that game.

For example:
1)How long does it take for you to reach level 3 trust in all camps in order to buy the best guns and upgrades.
Because the last of us at least tries to make some sense into why, days gone just calls them freakers because the zombie name is overused
@@venim3404 How does The Last Of Us explain it any more than Days Gone does?
@@thebl00dybaron maybe not, but the overall narrative and what is explained is better in every way
@@venim3404 The overall narrative is better, yes, but not what explains the naming of the zombies.

False, it does everything well.
Not everything, but most things. It does have atrocious load times, and far too frequent frame rate drops; but in about 40+/- hours, I only got about 4 major glitches, and only one made me reset the game, so easily forgivable.
(As far as a regular PS4 is concerned, probably better on a Pro).
@@RagnarokMic there are no constant from drops
Load times are almost non existent. But i guess to your generations 20 to 30 seconds is a lifetime.
@@RagnarokMic nope just a regular ps4. And it works perfectly fine.

Days Gone>Spiderman
I just think people are being extremely hard on this game because it is a sony exclusive and those tend to be the most polished games that playstation puts out.

i prefer to judge art based on its own merits because if its all contingent on comparison to the best ever, then ill always be disappointed, because honestly i enjoyed days gone more than rdr2, but i can still appreciate rdr2 for what it is.. gameplay is often paramount to everything else in my mind, and by that metric, days gone blows rdr2 away.. one more thing, i thought the bike and weapons handled great once i upgraded once or twice and by the endgame i loved the feel of combat and the bike.. to each their own though.. i think pubg has the best gunplay of any shooter and i know die hard fps players who hate that game so..

I didn't expect Blaze Bernstein to die three minutes in.
God damnit
Days gone was the most depressing “exclusive” not in the sense that the story was sad it’s that people think it’s now and underrated gem that should be praised for doing nothing new or improving on anything games similar have done. Sunset overdrive is an underrated gem. And it’s on Xbox and pc. It has no technical issues, the game does a lot of the Deadpool like humor with gameplay and story that reinvents the wheel for zombie games and parkour games and you wouldn’t have your spiderman exclusive without what insomniac learned from making sunset overdrive with the movement being very similar.
"I enjoyed this game!"
**proceeds to describe how it's absolute shit**
It’s a real cock tease of a game. It’s so close to being amazing but drops the ball hard on important parts.
i'm around 2 and a half hours in and i have to admit, being low on ammo and health after clearing an area out and heading to your next destination only to have a sniper or gang of some kind kill you isn't exactly fun. i might suck, but the game does have a pretty bad first impression so far
1:33 2015 ? The Witcher 3 was released in 2015 and it's still amazing. Even in 2019.
The most criminally unseated games in history
That may true. But, i will be pay again for somthing simular, with no regret . Solid 8 of 10
Fighting hordes is infuriating. All it takes it to get surrounded and you are dead. Sometimes there is no hordes left or right.... but when you burn the nest SUDDENLY HORDE SPAWNS BEHIND THE PLAYER.... so bad
Everything you said is true..why the dislikes? Fanboys?
theyre a bunch of anti sjw which slowly becoming sjw themself even worse lmaao
you do everything well luke

Ride to hell, the zombie chapter
I don’t care what other people say, I love this game, it’s so good
I love many shit games too. It's normal. Doesn't mean that people's criticism is not valid if you loved it.
3:11 how new games feel after 10 mins
Edit: looking for birch trees (drives directly beside a birch tree)
