Studio-recorded Hamburger Concerto was perfect, so I cannnot stop myself from reminding it. Live performance of Focus, especially Jan Akkerman’ outstanding guitar performance at Rainbow theatre was far much greater than the previously studio recorded tunes. I assure you can enjoy the album of Hamburger Concerto.
it was 1974... i was on drums in a band called Hesperus... in St.Catharines Canada.. i have NO idea WHY we took the time.. effort.. and toil to learn this piece to note for note perfection... when all the other local mutants were desperately into Deep Purple.. BUT .. we kicked the living crap out of playing it to perfection for OUR satisfaction... and LOVED doing it,playing it, and performing it for the few club goers that followed the band locally... its not ALL about being popular or making money.. and thats a FACT
There were many great prog-rock bands outside Britain and US, some of them were this Dutchband FOCUS and Italian's PREMIATA FORNERIA MARCONI. I was jusr 18 beck then when first time knew them in 1970's
More to Focus than Hocus Pocus eh ? Great short adaptation. A little more than half of the original studio cut. Hamburger Concerto is my fave Focus album. Still have my gatefold vinyl copy from '74 !
As much as Van Leer comes across as insane, from what I understand, he and the rest of Hocus Pocus are so musically advanced that that have to create something more interesting and unique, or they'd get bored, or worse..I've been to Holland many times. The average.Dutch are super smart people anyway, and these guys are just at the highest level, ultra musicians and highly creative....that's usually makes them comes off as weird at times...
Focus is what Enigma and Enya would sound like combined if they had been metal. Songs like Return to Innocence and Orinoco Flow would have sounded much, much better with metal
Vroeger stond er ooit een klein zwart wit gedeelte op youtube en dit is afkomstig van een prive tape van de drummer. Hopelijk krijgen we dit ooit nog eens in hd te zien.
I love the Niederpopszen version - better recording and more of it (the longer the better!) but the finale of this more epic. Suggest listen to both the other first then this one to finish
Been a huge Focus fan since the year dot.Only just found this and they are on fire. What bloody drugs was Thijs van Leer on?He is positively manic here as on Hocus Pocus from the same show
Phenomenal!!!!!! What an amazing and awesome sound!!! Pure genius!!!!!!
Hamburger Concerto must rank amongst the 10 greatest albums of all time.
Such a gem..yet sadly overlooked.
Focus é uma banda excelente, seus músicos são extraordinários.
thanks for this spectacular upload!! I'm 8 years late! ❤
just phenomenal stuff...and it won't ever be duplicated. May it live on.
One of the best live versions available! Thanks for making this available.
I agree, even more epic than the album version. Just amazing.
Wonderful stuff. Leslie-tastic!
Out Fucking Standing!

True
When your physical self is no more
And you now become a literal part of the cosmos
This " music " is played
At a boy! It’s about undertaking the task. That makes you an artist. Good for you.

Van Leer also made some really good flute albums also

Terrific ! Thanks for this, it’s different than the album , was this performance before the album was released ? And then changed ? Thanks again !

Bassplayer Bert Ruiter age 75 died 0n the 24 of March from esophageal cancer.
Rest in peace you righteous dude........ Rest In Peace ✌
RIP mr. Bert Ruiter. Focus classic lineup bassplayer. Great inputs from him in the band's repertoire.
Oh I didn't know, thanks for telling us.
Why on gods green earth do we not have people making music like this nowadays, I will never understand.. This just proves music nowadays is garbage..
This isn't mere genius or talent or anything man can describe
Jesus
In my humble opinion, thijs van Leer could rival Ian Anderson as a flautist!
