I love how appropriate the force used was. Dude throws a drink, he throws one back. Guy tries to punch him, he punches back. Beer bottle across the head? No you. He let them all decide how much of a beating they were gonna get, then quickly and clinically delivered them. 😂
If only his use of force remained proportionate throughout the rest of the film, lol.
The beer bottle across the head was a bridge too far for my suspension of disbelief. A beer bottle to the head goes "CLONK" or "*gristly noise*" and the person falls down with a fractured skull. They should have just made it an empty glass - the shatter would be realistic and the level of injury consistent too (glassing is still a major crime that ruins lives, don't do it kids!)
@@gospelofrye6881 depends on whether it's full or empty. Full ones tend to do what you describe, empty ones have a lot less mass and can shatter, depending on the point of impact. Theyre kind of like eggs, much weaker to pressure on their sides, so a full perpendicular broadside impact is much more likely to shatter than an angled contact with a bottom corner being the point of impact. Theres a video on DudesonsVLOG where a guy breaks a glass beer bottle over his own head-he doesnt fracture his skull or knock himself out, but he definitely regretted it, lol.
@@jadedandbitter Well sure, and Dan's backhand in this scene looks like it hits the jock right with the bottom corner (following through with the side so maybe the shattering is realistic after all). I guess there's also a difference between hitting someone with an imported beer (especially those fancy Grolsch ones with the clever lids) or some ultra-cheap domestic six pack variety.

The lesson here is: this is a guy willing to beat four kids for his own pleasure, and that's a hint about how much of a violent psycho he is. He was the bully, not them. He knew how this going to end and he knew they have no chance. That's what bullies do: they pick a prey - someone who isn't really capable of fighting back.

Respect to the barman who knew when to back off, decided to let the fight play out instead of trying to stop it, shows what moralities the barman has when realising that you shouldn’t mess with someone you don’t know and even defending himself at the end but not making a move and accepting the money shows he was willing to let the incident go for the sake of not getting in trouble with the cops, even though it’s a textbook example of bribery, never underestimate someone Who just gave an ass whooping to several arrogant teenagers

I like that you can read that as “he drinks that a lot so is used to the taste” in a first watch but once you find out quite what the program he was in was you can read it as “he was exposed to so much capsaicin in pepper spray and CS he doesn’t get affected anymore” on a second viewing

I used to be bullied when I was a kid, for being nerdy, short, having a very white skin and floppy ears. Fortunately, when I got to be a teenager, I got really buff and learned how to give quick and sharp responses to verbal abuse, so people got intimidated and left me alone.

It's pretty cool to know that Dan Stevens is also the same actor that played as the Beast in the live-action version of Beauty and The Beast. He's pratically a Terminator in this movie.

I've watched this movie 5 or 6 times. Love this scene. Appreciate David's confidence, sense of humor and badass fighting skills.

I know everyone is keen on Idris Elba playing Bond. Don't get me wrong, he'd be fantastic...but Dan Stevens would be perfect. He can pull off that suave confidence mixed with sociopathic menace that Connery hinted at.
I agree. Plus, he's got kind of smart aleck vibe that gives Bond the touch of humor that's always been a hallmark of the character. You couldn't go wrong with either him or Elba in that role.

I noticed that every time david goes to punch or even move theres this whoosh sound that really adds to the illusion of how hard hes hitting and that whoosh sound isnt there any time the bullies throw a punch

One of those movies that flew under the radar. YOU know its good and you only tell people about it if they ask for something like it. I watch this movie at least a couple times a year, just because this scene is so god damn entertaining.
