Sweeping rage after Kolkata rape-murder could be pushing us towards judicial lynching, not justice

  • Since the 2012 Delhi rape-murder, politicians have been promising fast, effective action against perpetrators. But, lacking proper training and equipped with overstretched forensic resources, investigators often take shortcuts. That’s led to a disturbing rise in cases where there are doubts if it is the perpetrators who are in jail.

What sets this Bengal rape-murder apart is, the police calling this as suicide, govt protecting the principal, and police shamelessly, silencing protestors. It is not just another rape case.
And I have never seen such naked vandalism of the evidence scene, in front of everyone. More like Laloo era jungle raaj.

Why blame Bihar, which has improved over the last two decades, albeit slowly and sporadically. The state with the worst law and order situation in the country now is, without any doubt, West Bengal. The paranoid schizophrenic who is the Chief Minister presides over the mayhem quite gleefully. Really sympathize with the poor citizens of West Bengal!

Stop bringing up Bihar in everything, dude. WB is moving to the bottom position pretty swiftly. We're still holding on to ego because of our past glory. Bangali hoyei bolchi. Be respectful to everybody else, and lets work on improving ourselves.

@@hkumar7340I trust you, when you say Bihar has improved. But past Bihar was jungle raj, and present Bengal is competing with that ! Edited comment.

What was the police system we were having before the British or are you saying we are immune to change - in police and other systems - just curious to know - I used to work in government hospital before I left India - i used to feel the same - we need to change

we should not keep blaming the british for our laziness, and more importantly our endemic corruption. our society is riddled with political power-crime nexus

I agree but the people in power (BJP,TMC,Congress etc) don't give a f*ck till people start protesting. Especially when their kin or rich people are culprit.

We need more accountability from state governments, especially in healthcare, education, and law and order. Unlike the central government, where a significant portion of spending goes to defense, railways, and transport ministries and is overseen by the CAG, state governments often show low productivity and accountability. For instance, despite healthcare, education, and law and order being state subjects, their quality remains poor across the country, no matter which state you live in.

The title is very misleading. The Kolkata case is not simply a rape case. The murder part is more important. And the Mamata is trying to destroy the evidence. Please say this is a political murder. Gory, like other cases of rape and violence, but the motives and contexts are different.

When the administration is not doing anything, the public is _bound_ to take matters into its own hands. Hence the dire need for police reforms making the police service independent of the state government.

Do we really need to change policing and justice for women ? We should be satisfied with better highways , highest bridge on the Chenab river , great textiles , great restaurants , terrible Bollywood movies etc etc . Justice for women is not a priority , nor better education or healthcare. As long as every politician gets elected , including Modi , that should satisfy the public. They give us crumbs and we hail them.Modi is great , Indira was India , Rahul and his cohorts are saviors of democracy. They all work for themselves and we the people have always been dumb.

True Sir. The CJI must see and consider these points. Thanks for SC's intervention. Though the HC Kolkata was very firm with his orders.
But for the intervention of SC. Lawyers team headed by Kapil browbeat the judge started browbeat the judge though he was firm on his judgment at one point of time Kapil gangs almost succeeded in doing so. But he gathered his wits back and did what he wanted.
SC further took it next level.
Police should form a separate wing to handle such heinous crime with technical background to avoid major errors in mishandling the evidence by constables and ASIs while presenting to the court. Tx.

In Hinduism, rape is not considered a sin, even gods have indulged in this practice. Shiva who indulged in love with mohini, because he could not control himself. In hinduism women have always seen as objects that can be distributed and used as sex objects. For rape to stop, we must abondon hindu and accept humanity.

Report is incomplete without showing destroying of evidence and if rape was a message to worse crimes that include the government police and officials at the hospital plus if the systems were in place like safe facilities in the first place in hospitals decades ago plus the lack of action in enforcing laws already there.

Wow Swamy 👏 what a brilliant cover fire to save Mamta di ! While the facts he brought out are interesting , it is a clear cover fire to save bengal police and Mamta in the current case where they are clearly seen tampering evidence and trying to protect the guilty at all costs . Now Pravin Swamy brings in old cases of wrong convictions to add doubt here too…

Please also report the rape threats given to women online for not "protesting enough" by some who claim to be outraged by this case.
Also please report on the woman who was dragged out from her home in Midnapur and stripped and paraded naked for 3 kms by BJP supporters because she refused to participate in a midnight protest and said she will.do so only in the morning.

    • @Boruto_Is_OP
      @Boruto_Is_OP 21 день назад +2

It's easy to dismiss the Kolkata case as overhyped when you're not directly affected, but imagine if the victim were your own sister, girlfriend, wife, nephew, cousin, or anyone else you care about. Would you still think it's overhyped, or would you demand justice and accountability? When it comes to the safety and dignity of our loved ones, politics should never take precedence over basic human decency and justice. Trivializing such a serious issue not only disrespects the victim but also sets a dangerous precedent where empathy is overshadowed by political biases
