I ride mountain bikes, so i might have some input. I started using regular shorts to ride and holly shit they get uncomfortable and sweaty super fast when you move your legs up and down thousand of times. I used to put my stuff on my pockets and that shit gets on the way super fast. I bought some cheap shorts and long sleeve from amazon that is breathable and some shorts that are stretchy to make my ride comfortable. If i go around 20 miles per hour, my shirt starts flopping on the wind and gets annoying. I used some cheap Nike shoes to ride and it was fine, but my feet where all over the place and no consistency at all and my back hurt. Once i decided to buy clip in shoes and speacial pedals, it was a game changer. My feet/legs got used to the same spot when pedaling and my back stop hurting from the inconsistency. I really dont care about the brands or colors, but when people see you in the streets they start judging you and specially if they know you. For cyclist who ride the streets, its easy for them to be riding from 20 to 40 miles per hour, that special clothes is a necessity. The special shoes is so that you dont think if your foot is about to fall off the pedals or that left foot is too far back from the right, etc. Like any hobby, that will buy anything that will allow you to enjoy the hobby a little more. Bright colors are a must for either riders, i see too many people in the ER because they got hit by a car or not wearing a helmet.
Ya but it still makes them look like huge fucking dorks and to add they are extremely obnoxious with they way they will flat out ignore a bike lane and make everyone else suffer.
As a guy who sweats easily and wears breathable athletic wear when im riding a bike, it makes me sad what Billy would think of me. If i rode a bike in jeans id be bringing some ungodly swamp ass with me wherever im going
I ride road and let me tell you, after riding for 3 hours while sitting on a bike seat, your ass gets tired and it hurts. Those shorts or bibs that cyclists wear are padded and they make it much more comfortable to ride. You may look at a cyclists for 8 seconds while you pass them in your car but you fail to realize that cyclist could have been riding for the past 3 hours and plans on riding for 2 more so those shorts are not like a fashion statement, they are a necessity. Not to mention the bright and flashy colors help with being more visible in traffic.

Whenever I go bicycling I always wear a rayon yellow shirt and shorts, so that cars will be able to see me. I don't get why these guys wear black and blue colors, that are hard to see.
Im not an alcoholic. I m just not paying to look like an idiot and hurt myself with clothes too thin to protect. I smoke all the dudes with the unfiroms. If you're a real rider. Your riding speaks not your clothes.

When I hear someone complain about cycling gear I know I'm listening to a couch potato who hasn't ridden a bicycle since it had a banana seat. Cyclists wear the clothes because it wicks the sweat odd your skin and the wind dries and cools you off simultaneously. The shorts have padding so you don't get these painful saddle sores which are hard knots under the surface of the skin which hurt like a MF because the knot is created in the exact same spot your pushing down on when you pedal on the down stroke. The gloves keep your hands from slipping from the sweat running down your forearms. The helmet keeps your noggin from cracking the nearest curb which I've seem happen with dudes carried away in a neck brace and stretcher. You don't want to fly off a bike at 30 mph towards a the edge of a curb
I don't understand why people will pay to wear someone's advertising. But Bill, how do you get so involved in the ball-sports as you do? Do you have any team jerseys in your closet?
Dude most brands have huge logos or lettering on the stuff they sell. I bet you have previously bought a shirt with a Nike or Addidas or Under Armor logo displayed on it.
You folks dont have to justify what you wear on your bike rides. But, some of us, do think you look weird. Ive never put that stuff on but it looks uncomfortable
Weekend cyclists remind me of Olympic target shooters. They spend thousands to get incremental boosts in performance and look ridiculous. All for what is an activity a child in shorts can do.
I call them butt pants. When you see a person like that in front of you, you just know he isn‘t going to respect the traffic and just keep pedaling through red lights and cut you off whenever his bike lane is ending or he wants to change lanes. Self important pricks.
Great video of these bike clowns on youtube passing some cowboys and one of the horses spooked ( as they buzzed right past them fast) and he barreled over like 5 of these clowns. Horses have the right of way but these folks don't care
