Trimmed the Body Trim on our Jeep JT Gladiator Bed so that it sits Above the Frame Rails and Bumper

- So, I need to apologize and say right from the get go that this video is NOT a "how to" one. Unfortunately, Cindy and I didn't film what we did and mainly because we didn't think anyone would care. However, after making a post on WAYALIFE.com and seeing the kind of response it was getting there, we thought there might be a few people here on RUclips who would be interested in seeing what we did as well. With that said, this video will show you what happened to our Jeep JT Gladiator and what it looks like now, after we trimmed 4" off the bed side trim. This simple mod effectively raises the lowest point on the body so that it sits above the bumper and frame rails and that should help to prevent hits to them in the future.

Omg, my son and I couldn’t stop laughing, watching Ripley with the pig toy was hilarious! 😂
LOL - awesome 😁
Dog tax: paid in full!
It definitely looks factory. Looks dam good! I wish you guys would film more of your wheeling though. You’ve got some of the most well built rigs out there, and your not afraid to tackle hard trails. Your wheeling videos are some of my favorite and I’d love to vicariously live through you guys with more of them!
Thank you. Glad to hear you like what you see. As far as wheeling videos go, we'll try to get more done. As I mention in the video, they're just a lot of work to film and make but it's nice to know that people like you enjoy the ones we've made.
@@wayalife yea I imagine they’re a lot of work. Lots of getting out, walking the trail, getting the best angles, and lots of editing. I rewatch a lot of your guys wheeling videos because the quality is just incredible and your rigs are insane and the locations are amazing! Hope to see more in the future, but if not it’s all good. I’m still here watching!
@@StormbornJKU It is a lot of work and the bigger the group, the more time it takes to do. Cindy and I have been talking about it and we'll try to get more wheeling videos in. Thanks for the support.
Two of life’s greatest things, dogs and wheeling!
LOL - you got that right :)
LOL... I could watch the dog all day... oh, jeep's nice too!
LOL - glad you enjoying seeing Ripley and our Jeeps :)
Your dog definitely stole the show!
LOL - happy to hear you enjoyed watching Ripley 😎
Well I was really enjoying the brilliance of your mod and then came the pig segment. IMO your have set a new standard for sharing useful information and entertainment all in one short video. You created a new format…its the multi purpose video (MPV). When you watch an MPV you learn something and then you get to laugh about something completely different! Love it!
LOL - we are genuinely flattered that you would say as much, thank you. Happy to hear you enjoy our videos. 😊
Yoo!!! I was just coming into Vegas on my motorcycle back from Pahrump and saw you driving by Red rock ! I almost freaked out.. ok I did! It was just cool to see the jeep pass by! Sending nothing but love y’all’s way!
No kidding, very cool :)
I love your videos. Your dog Ripley stole the show.
Happy to hear you enjoy our videos and Ripley 😎
I have a border collie too...that was awesome...I was crying
LOL - awesome

Departure is way better now. Very clean look. Ripley sure is good for a laugh. Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks and glad you enjoyed seeing Ripley having some fun 😎
Nice bro🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽nice meeting you at jeep beach too👍🏽
Indeed, a real pleasure meeting you :)
I am glad to see Ripley that was included to this vid. He is one vital part of your family. Cheers
LOL - happy to hear you enjoy seeing her on our videos 😎
You should have a channel just for your dog. Very funny.
LOL - so happy to hear you enjoy watching her 😎
That wild horse galloping in front of you! Amazing!
Glad you enjoyed seeing it my friend 😎
Thanks for adding Ripley's new toy to the video. Loved it. The mod looks great.
LOL - so glad you enjoyed seeing Ripley and the mod 😁
Those pigs were my German Shepherds absolute favorite toy!
LOL - awesome
It does look factory. Ripely is so much fun to watch. Thanks for the video
So glad you like what you see 😎
A few years ago you did an install on LOD sliders. I just put a set on my Rubicon. Thank you, that video made the install very easy.
Awesome! Glad I could help 😎
Super clean look, almost adds a hint of retro to it with the simplicity. Amazing, and as always, thank you for taking the time to create and share another story
Commented too quickly, YOUR PUP IS SO FUN! 🐾 🧡
Awesome! So glad you like what you see and that you like our videos and Ripley :)
Great video you guys! Your Gladiator is about the coolest off road rig around! The ending with Ripley made me laugh til I had tears!!! Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it! 😎
Your dog is hilarious to watch! Good job on the body modifications too!👍🏼
LOL - thank you. Glad you enjoyed seeing both 😎
The ending made me subscribe as my two “geniuses” barked each time the pig squeaked.
Great video, I like the look.
Glad you enjoyed it!
The mods that you do Eddie. Seems like a never ending task. Love the 4 wheeling footage. Oh, the end of the video with Ripley and the pig.... Hilarious! 🤣
LOL - Awesome, glad you enjoyed it 😎
Excellent work - form & function! 👍🏻🇺🇸
Thank you 😎
Awesome video! Glad you threw in a few clips from the Rubicon and Ripley stealing the ending was awesome too!
Glad you liked it! 😎
Looks awesome. Love seeing Ripley with a new toy
Thank you. So glad to hear you enjoyed what we did and Ripley too 😎
No unboxing, but the edit did NOT disappoint 🔥! Loving the minimalist (less stuff in the way) look. Best part is the extreme functionality. I’m sure you can find some thing to do with the exhaust 🤔😏!
LOL - sorry for not having an unboxing on this one but glad you enjoyed it none the less. As far as exhausts go, there are options for sure and we have one on the way now.
I was just chatting it up with someone else about how I used to be that guy out on excursion with 5 GoPros, DSLR, Gimbals & Drone. Then edit & stitch the footage together. Not so much to share on social media but to serve as a digital journal if you will but one day just stopped doing so.
It started taking away from the experience. It became more about, "getting the shot" vs wheeling, camaraderie & soaking it all in.
Yup, that's sounds about right. We got into Jeeps to enjoy ourselves out on the trail, not work ourselves to death. Glad to hear from someone who understands.
@@wayalife it's a slippery slope because on the other hand you have loyal subs that helped the channel grow into a community and you almost feel obligated to create content but if the channel grows into what some may deem as "too big" then folks see that as selling out. Go figure.
Thanks for sharing your learnings, still looks great!
We're happy that we can share things like this and thank you 😎
@@wayalife 😎
I’m going to do the same trim on my jt next weekend, glad you posted this so I could see how it looked before I chopped into mine 👍🏻👍🏻
Glad I could help
Two of my favorite things…dogs & jeeps👍🏼
Awesome! Couldn't agree more! 👍
That came out so good I bet a lot of people start doing that. I’m probably going to be one of them.
Thank you. Glad you like what you see and that we could share this with you.
And a comment for the algorithm.. ;-) I looooove the doggy scenes pretty much
LOL - happy to hear you enjoy seeing Ripley 😎
Man I love your style of filming and editing.
We're so glad to hear it, thanks!
Looks so much better than factory
Thank you, I think so too.
Dog and piggy just to cute! I would watch just for the fun of that alone
LOL - glad you enjoyed the video 😎
Another great video! Ripley is a gas!!!
LOL - thank you and happy to hear you enjoyed watching Ripley 😎
Did an amazing job...best looking Gladiator out there. Love yalls videos....would def love more wheeling content! ...just sayin 😆
LOL - glad you like the trim and we'll try to make time to film more of our trips.
Magnaflow Rockcrawler series is an awesome option for your exhaust. I love the fact that it’s not too loud and a tucks everything up nice and tight
I do love the Magnaflow on our JK. May have to give it a look.
Outstanding mod
Thank you :)
Happy to give this video it's first like.
Love the pup! Would like to see the red 2door on a trail.
Thank you! Glad to hear you enjoyed it and Ripley and hoping to get videos of our 2-door out on the trail soon 👍
Those 42” tires from a previous episode is your answer. 👍
LOL - they're coming. Just need me some 20" wheels.
The puppy clips are the best!
So happy to hear you enjoy seeing Ripley 😎
That looks a hell of a lot better. Like it looked good before but holy hell
Thank you. Glad you like what you see 😎
That was awesome idea! Nice Eddie! By the way love your puppy! Haha
Thank you. Glad to hear you liked what we did and that you enjoyed seeing Ripley 😎
@@wayalife yes for sure It is very clean mod and don’t really notice it! My sister and brother-in-law have 3 Border Collies now, great dogs! You all have a great week!
@@ronanderson9960 You as well, thank you.
Ripley needs her own channel!! Also I'd like wheeling vids!
I like the subtle change,Jeep should’ve done that.Thank you for Playtime with Ripley, loved how she would look at you “poking da pig” & her then think’g “🤔 can I do that too?”
LOL - Glad you like what you see and that you enjoyed seeing Ripley having some fun too. 😎
Great, necessary and useful modification and looks better than factory. Ripley is just 😂. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. I think it really makes a big difference and yes, maybe looks better than factory. Glad you enjoyed seeing Ripley too 😎
Well done! Shared this with a buddy of mine who has this same situation, thank you for this vid!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Oh soo cute, great job on the Gladiator too,
LOL - thank you :)
I swapped my exhaust for an MBRP high clearance system . Worked great. Alot more room under there and alot less 'stuff'. Now you got me thinking...need to look at mine and see how this mod would look.
Glad we could share this with you.
Dang that looks fantastic. IMO it looks even better than factory and if I ever end up with a JT you can bet I will have to steal your idea
Cheers
Thank you! Happy to hear our video might be of use to you someday 😎
That's clean good job!
Thank you :)
Good job on the Jeep! I love Border Collies! They are a lot of fun and great companions!
Yes they are and thank you :)
Was really hoping for this video and to see you doing the cutting. But.... doggo videos are always perfect
Sorry for not showing the cutting. It really was simple though. Just used a cutoff wheel and about 5 min of time. Glad you enjoyed seeing Ripley 😎
Those pigs have started many a dog fight at our house!😂 Jeep looks great Eddie, keep on rocking brother!
LOL - awesome!
As always your videos are incredible and the narration awesome
Thank you. We're so happy to hear you enjoy our videos 😎
@@wayalife very much thanks for sharing
Pure genius! BTW, Ripley needs his own YT channel...
LOL - So happy to hear you enjoy seeing Ripley 😎
Although I loved that mod, Ripley stole the show once again!
LOL - so glad to hear you enjoyed seeing Ripley :)
@@wayalife Just ordered a couple of your wayalife forest shield t shirts in olive green. Excellent designs and thanks for the content.
Good mod and video and I completely understand why you did it, function. I know the JT has got to be harder to wheel than a 4 door Jeep because of the wheel base and length. Awesome puppy!
It's more of a challenge for sure but I like it. Happy to hear you enjoyed seeing Ripley :)
@@wayalife how old is he now?
She's about a year and a half old now :)
That looks great !
Glad you like what you see :)
It looks like factory. I had to go back and see the difference. Looks super neat, well done. Your jt is probably my favorite out of all your jeeps
Why thank you. So glad to hear you like what you see 😎
Awesome! Looks great and functional at the same time. I have thought about cutting from the back of the rear fender up to just under the tailgate.
Glad you like what you see :)
Did the same thing on my Comanche. Also I dumped the exhaust right before the rear axle
awesome video
Glad you enjoyed it
I love Ripley 🐕
LOL - so happy to hear it 😎
Nice one, keep growing
I will try my best 😎
it's clean... simple... i like it.
Glad you like it! 😎
Amazing work buddy! Keep doin what ya do 🍻.
Thank you. Glad you like what you see 😎
I think the trimmed section actually looks better than factory.
Thank you. There was some concern about doing this mod as there would be no turning back. However, now that we've done it, we're kicking ourselves for not doing it sooner.
Mod looks good and practical. How bout putting layer of protection of like a tape or Epoxy coating on those sharp edges. That is excellent modified Jeep Gladiator. Good presentation 😎👍
Awesome vid!!!! Please post a video of the JT on the rubicon trail!!!!
Glad you enjoyed the video. We'll see what we can do assuming the trail gets opened again soon.
Looks 👍 The only issue I foresee is tickets for no mudflaps...seriously...
I did a similar mod to a 2nd gen Ram 1500 4x4 and the cycle cops were getting me a few times a month. One of them finally issued a ticket that required I fix it or my truck would be impounded...
And, that's why we live in Nevada. We don't have mud flap laws here. 😎
Well, now I'm just being spoilt. Ripley and trimming? Black and white perfection!!
This is a super common modification on Toyota trucks. Having a bumper designed to fill that space and take the hits it’s the ideal situation.
Yup, I see it all the time and it's a part of what got me thinking we could do this as well 😎
@@wayalife I’d say it’s time for a bob!
@@Anders0nic LOL - nah, I'm happy with the bed the way it is and I use all of it to carry gear.
Next...........subscribed.
Thank you 😎
Came for the Jeep mods - stayed for the squeaky toy😁😁
LOL - awesome :)
Would have love to see how you did it! Looks great.
Sorry, wish we would have thought to film it but really, it was as simple as putting blue painters tape on to mark where I wanted to cut and then used cutoff wheel to do it. Took just a couple of minutes.
Can't wait to see what you guys do with the stock exhaust. I'm looking at different options also
Hope to post up a video soon 😎
I would surmise the factory Rubi guards weren't meant to take a hit with al that extra weight your carrying.
Great vid guys.
Actually, they're made to take big hits BUT they NEED to be tied into the factory rear bumper and hitch receiver. I tried making them work with just 2 of 5 bolts.
@@wayalife oh. I didn't know that.
me to myself: "nice.....just need to ditch that ugly muffler and its set"
Eddie: " this muffler is ugly and I should address it"
me to myself again: "also nice"
It's the little details that really make a build work.
LOL - awesome. And yes, that thing is just nasty 🤪
@@wayalife it’s all I could look at when you were measuring the difference lol. Lookin forward to that video.
We need WAYALIFE to off road 😫😫 “Make WAYALIFE wheeling again” ehh lol
LOL
Wow, great Idea !
Glad you like it! 😎
You need to put a link in for that piggy toy. I couldn’t stop laughing. My puppy would love something like that. He’s already gone through 2 pairs of my welding gloves.
LOL - I'll have to see if I can find it online.
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it 😎
Great video
The rocks will hit Intel you put steel there.
Glad you liked the video and the steel is the frame rails. As I mention in the video, prior to this mod, the trim was hanging below it.
Come for the Jeep stay for the dog!
So glad to hear you enjoy our videos :)
Thank you for sharing your real world insight. 1) With 42's (are you running 42s as of 13 Nov 2022) and your lift you don't think you will need any rear quarter protecting at all? If you take any damage to the rear quarters please post. 2) It seems like the front, bottom edge of the Evo Rear High N Tight bumper (like most rear bumpers) really digs into the ground on steep inclines. How hard would it be to add a 3-4" beveled steel strip (possibly with UHMW) to decrease digging/gouging and maximize sliding while going up steep inclines?
Yes, still running 42's as of this post and no, I don't feel a need for rear quarter protection now that I have trimmed the bed sides. The frame rails now take the beating and not the low hanging body. Regarding the digging, what you're seeing/hearing is my license plate which hangs below the bottom of the bumper. I have since relocated it and this is no longer a problem. I should also note that there is no other bumper out there that sits as high up as this one.
I'm a bit surprised that the "ugly muffler" wasn't taken care of by the natural flow of the trail....you know the easy way, scrap and crunch. Maybe Jeep ( Chrysler) will see these vids of people trimming it up and actually do something about it. I know, I know, they only make mall crawlers. Good luck, I think those extra inches do not keep you out of all damage danger in those spots but it is a damn good and smart upgrade. Happy wheeling. Cheers.
LOL - it's on the driver side and it's easier to keep an eye on the things. But, most of it is luck I'm sure.
👍👍 Looks great!
Thanks! 👍
Dog is to cute 😊
Glad you enjoyed seeing our Ripley 😎
So now that a few years have passed did this remedy the headache? I have been torn between a bob or just letting it stay smashed. Came across this and actually like how it looks far more cut than stock.
It should come like this from the fabric
💡Put wheels under the bed frame so it can roll instead of scrape 😁
@ 1:47 Was that the new Bronco Sport getting out of the way???😂😂😂
LOL - now that's funny.
It looks like you trimmed and removed the front inner fender liners as well. You can definitely clear 42s now with less or no rubbing than before.
That's the plan 😁
Wow wow wow! Very slick! I'm curious to know who makes your rear bumper? I've never seen it before and it pairs perfectly with your body trim, nice!
Thanks! The bumper is made by EVO. You have to contact them about it though.
