    Thanks for sharing the video Zach. Yes sir you are trying to alleviate bad habits. Beautiful young pair. You are good and gentle but firm and that is the key to working with anything young. Yes sir you have to out smart them for if they get by with something they don't forget. Big difference between a mule and a horse. Take care and God Bless Y'all.

    Daily routine is a good teacher. Your mules seem to be pretty respectful of the rope you tied across, I had horses who would get across a chain I spanned in a similar way when i was not looking.

    • @zachodom7486
      @zachodom7486  3 месяца назад

      Yessir and thank you! So, I only use the rope when getting them in and out so it’s sorta new to em. And enough to keep em at bay lol. When I first started with it, she turned around and faced it. Smelled of it and all. But she wouldn’t mess with it. It’s more mental than anything I think. And using it as a restraint when taking them out has really proven helpful. She’s strong enough to overpower me holding a lead, but not that cotton rope tied off. In time I believe she’ll give up her fight and relax more; but it’s not gonn last be easy. Her mother was a good work mare. But she was snorty. Anyway, thank you sir for watching and commenting! And as always, thx for the kind words and also for watching

      @zachodom7486  3 месяца назад

      I don’t have to per se…but it helps get them in a routine and makes handling them quicker and easier for me: especially on my limited time schedule. The easier the better. So things I’m set on like their feet, we do everyday. Because their feet is very important. And trimming and shoeing them is important. So I want them to handle their feet well if that makes sense. Anyway, hope I answered your questions. And thank you for always watching and taking time to comment: I surely appreciate it. Take care my friend and do come again, please

    Sorry for the wrong button, you mention that they are smart, do you mean they are figuring what is coming up next, or are they just anticipating your next move, thanks for sharing even though I'll never own a pair of working horse or mules I find your content educational and very interesting thanks.

    • @zachodom7486
      @zachodom7486  3 месяца назад

      No problem buddy. So, when I say they’re smart I mean that they will study you and their surroundings very close. They pay a lot of attention to what’s going on around them. They pattern things and do anticipate. Such as me picking their feet up, going to each of their stalls and staying there, certain voice commands I’ve taught them, right down to learning their jobs as work mules. Mules are very intelligent animals and learn what you’re asking of them quick. They’ll pick up on things fast whether bad or good. So a feller must set himself and the mule up to win. Hence why I used this rope to hold her while untying. Because I wanted her to stay but she wanted to bolt. The rope mitigated the situation and taught her to stay still until I release her with my mouth. If that makes sense.

    I really enjoy your videos. I've noticed evidence of some cribbing. Do you train them to stop that, or do you just tolerate it? Thank you

    • @zachodom7486
      @zachodom7486  3 месяца назад +1

      Thanks for the kind words and I’m glad you enjoy the videos! So, my colt..May..is the culprit of cribbing. I tolerate it for the most part. Because some mules will crib and most won’t. I have in the past mixed burnt oil and red pepper together…and painted it on the wood where they crib at and that’ll stop it or slow it up anyway. Hope this answers your question and thanks for watching and taking time to comment. I appreciate it. Take care and do come again! Please

    Hi Zach. Just found your channel not long ago and really love it! Don't know if you've answered this, but, why do you have the halters hang opposite the side you work with them? Makes you have to reach over or back them up to get to it. Just wondering if you did this for a specific intention. Thanks for your videos🙏

    • @zachodom7486
      @zachodom7486  3 месяца назад

      Hey there!! Well, tbh with you..I didn’t think it thru that hard when I put the hangers up lol. I should’ve hung them on the opposite side for ease of things. Hello my friend! Ok, so I use the blue lead rope just to hold them while I am putting their halters on and off to keep them from moving away from me on their own accord. I want to be sure I win instead of letting them develop bad habits such as pulling away from me when I’m haltering them. If that makes sense? @@zachodom7486 well that does make sense. Just a little bit of a technique for them to think they can’t get away with backing out of their stall. The same routine you use every time to let them know you’re in charge.
