      she's as close to perfect as any human in history, but not literally perfect. 2:02 - the f# and G did not sound cleanly. and there were several *barely* out of tune notes, difficult to detect at that speed.

      @@chuckcornelius194I remember reading a paper analyzing intonation of various masters. Almost all went slightly sharp when playing very fast.

      But the string crossings are easier, which is why she did it (clockwise is easier than anticlockwise).

    This performance to me is perfection. No accompaniment, and just her solo playing every note so clearly and perfectly. The intonation, clarity, phrasing, and everything else is out of this world. Also, love love love this dress! So elegant.

      Correct placement in the bow, flexible right fingers/ wrist, relaxed forearm, dropped shoulder, catching momentum from each bow to the next, proper speed/ pressure distribution, and following the musical lines. Guarantee your right arm will not be in hell with the above.

    I am so glad I have lived long enough to have heard this most remarkable young lady play. The precision, the incredible accuracy of that concise and prolific technical ability. Combine that with the passion for the music, and you have the best of those I know.

      This is the London promenade concert season.... dress by the orchestra is not so strict, nor is the atmosphere in the hall which is packed with the young generation. The way the audience in the Royal Albert Hall listen with such attentiveness is in itself a phenomenon, and is repeated year after year, decade after decade.

    I’ve had the privilege of accompanying some truly accomplished soloists (though not Hilary Hahn). The string players in the orchestra typically admire them; they’re not jealous.

    This is remarkable. I love this presto and she does everything so well. Every time I listen to another Bach piece of hers I'm continually impressed. The dynamics, her bowing, attack, intonation, I love listen to her interpretations.

    I bet each of the violinists in the orchestra knows every note of this sonata, each of them must have painstakingly perfected it over hundreds of hours of hard labor. They are the ones to judge and admire this performance and I think they would unanimously agree it is top class.

      Hilary can play damn hard pieces, I doubt that the other violinists could do that on stage. The presto is pretty easy compared to the "Erlkönig" she performed once.

      I'm not really sure tho.
      The guy directly behind her (at the end of the video) also looked super salty at first.
      But at the end he clapped and he also squint his eyes, which usually happens when you smile.

    @WarholVirtuoso She started on an up bow, followed by bowing as it comes. So she didn't slur the first two notes, she just started from an up bow, then the second note, she did a down bow, then as it comes. (: I think she did that perhaps because she didn't want to accent the first note of every bar.

    Hilary Hahn is a great violinist in the tradition of past masters such as Heifetz, Oistrach, Kogan, Menuhin, etc. It is rare to see someone with such devotion to the highest excellence. I hope she plays till she's 90.
