      It is normally not that emotional if it is only a team switch within a group.
      If I remember it right, the super dramatic scene of Jyurina was due to the bad announcement order. She was only arranged to co-participate in Team K, beside her original team S, but the management announced Team K first without mentioning Team S, so she thought she was completely relocated to AKB from SKE. Consider her age, the fact of leaving all her familiar members in SKE, and the distance between Tokyo and Nagoya, it is actually understandable.

    It's true miichan shaved her head completely on her own accord, her fellow members sometimes later on even joke about it or make light of it. To this day, she actually is embarrassed for what she did and thinks she reacted too dramatically and dislikes that it was blown up to the extent it did. I wish you could have discussed the dating scandal case of Sashihara Rino, who got into a big sex scandal, and was transferred to HKT48. This did not stop her, and she utilized this as a way to become a leader and mentor to the new group, helping her to end up becoming one of the THE most popular members (she ranked #1 in SSK multiple times!) and through that realized her love of producing and managing idol groups, leading her to create her own group =LOVE! I feel this shows that in the end, often times these 'dating scandal's dont define you.

    • @Amanda-kx9st
      @Amanda-kx9st 3 года назад +389

      also miichan has stated before, the management weren't upset about the dating scandal, they were mad because she saved her head and made a big deal out of it. But the members now take it very lightheartedly, and sometimes joke around about it. She even had a whole photoshoot with her wig :P

      I don't think you're correct about no backlash. Recently NMB48 member yokono sumire was caught dating, and the fans had a huge backlash. She didn't participate in any events for a few months and it's recently announced that she is leaving the group (not a graduation, more like fired. Instead of 卒業 it's 辭退)
      Miichan said multiple times that she shaved her head because she was so afraid that she will have to leave the group, and the best way to apologize she can think of is to shave off her hair.
      Sahsi, Miichan and Yukirin all still received some sort of backlash from the fandom (at least in east asia), I still see people leaving mean comments about their dating scandals. They survived because 1. They had a bigger fanbase then most members and 2. They did so much for the group after the scandal some fans think they "made up for their mistakes". These are all popular opinions in the mandarin fandom, I have to say that Asia is not moving forward as much as you think. Sorry for the essay

    • @Amanda-kx9st
      @Amanda-kx9st 3 года назад +94

      @@Hiyu331 I feel the suuchan case was a little different, because she was caught dating multiple people at the same time which blew up so much and she was the new NMB ace. from wota sites I've translated and read that are frequented by 48g jp fans, it appears the management wanted her to stay !! But the backlash from wotas was too much/it was hard for her to stay personally -- which is more what I meant with my posts. Some wotas will be terrible, and that can be seen often in kpop/etc too when an idol starts dating they get huge backlash (look at EXO chen fans) But sometimes they can be surprisingly supportive (When riripon announced her marriage, lots of them wanted to chip in their own money to pay for the wedding! :P) As for miichan, she has said multiple times she wants to forge the entire incident, and most of the members joke about it often now with miichan herself having said she was being dramatic and regrets it. I realize they all received some backlash from hardcore wota fans, I'm more talking about management here who tend to brush things under the rug more and don't 'kick people out'. Basically it more has to do with FANS response (which is not under the management's control) rather than management themselves.

      @Mario Rossi - The core most thing to mention about SNH48 in relation to its origin as a 48 sister group is how much AKB48's 2nd Generation member Miyazawa Sae wanted to be a major part of it. She was extremely upset with how much trouble there was getting her visa going and how limited an amount of activities she was able to do with SHN48 as a result. Suzuki Mariya who also was transferred over there, not so much. Sae even refused to just go back to Team K and requested to be moved to another Japan based 48 group if they couldn't send her overseas, ultimately landing in SKE48.

    19:19 I remember this! actually it's a little dramatic, but if you know the reason, you will definitely be surprised too. Jurina was ske48's ace, she was the center of ske and ske's 1st gen. During the shuffle announcement, they thought jurina would move out permanently. Even though she was very young at that time, she was one of the most respected members among the 48G members. Apart from that, even though they are one as 48G family, there is a rivalry that is, although not so striking, between akb and ske. So the shuffle announcement was of course very surprising to all the members. It's like moving f (x) 's Krystal to SNSD 😂😅

    48G is a titanic arena of healthy competition. The members are told they are all one another's rivals. You can see that in the legendary rivalries and double centers (Acchan vs Yuko, Mayuyu vs Sasshi, Jurina vs Rena, Milky vs Sayanee, Haruppi vs Sakura, Yuiyui vs Moeka). In one of the most iconic SSK speeches of all time, Mariko challenged the junior members to "come at us like you're going to crush us." When Team K (AKB48 2nd generation) was first formed and introduced to the original Team A (1st generation), they instantly viewed the other as rivals. Takamina later confessed to Yuko that when she saw her, she thought she couldn't beat her. On the other hand, Yuko always said that her and Takamina aren't friends but comrades. As far as her same generation (douki)/teammates, she named Akimoto Sayaka as both one of her best friends and rivals at the same time. During the early years of the group, Acchan said many of the other girls didn't like the fact that she was center. Despite that, altogether, they talked about working hard as pioneers so that their juniors can have a place where they can safely achieve their dreams. For Manatsu no Sounds Good, Haruppi was selected to be HKT48's sole representative, marking their debut in an AKB A-Side. However, she made a lot of mistakes, and apologized to everyone on her return to Hakata while crying, but nobody comforted her, nobody even spoke or moved. She knew everybody was thinking why was she center when they were better. Nevertheless, on HKT's documentary, all the 1st generation members said nobody had any complaints on Haruppi being the group's center as they fully acknowledged the reasons why as early as when they initially saw her at the auditions. Mayuyu is still the only original ace of a generation to both remain as such until graduation and become AKB's center (singles-wise and in title). Her douki, Love-tan was really persistent to take center, and so she confessed there were many conflicts between them when Team B was starting out. They're still good friends to this day. Even when Nogizaka46 debuted as AKB's official rival group, she expressed she wants them to push each other forward with their good-natured rivalry.
    There are many interviews and features of the members talking about the importance of center. For national idols called a social phenomenon and untouchable in sales by any active girl group in the world, it is the highest position a member can reach within the group. Until now, there have only been 18 different centers (Takamina, Acchan, Kojiharu, Jurina, Yuko, Uchii, Mariko, Paruru, Mayuyu, Tomochin, Sasshi, Yukirin, Sakura, Mion, Nana, Yuiyui, Moeka, Zukki) in AKB48's two independent singles and 57 major singles.
    The Big Three events of 48G are the Senbatsu Sousenkyo, Request Hour, and Janken Tournament. Jurina, known serial winner, made history by winning all of them.
    Additionally, the bikini releases and gravure shoots have more to do with Japanese pop culture than 48G alone.
    As of the moment, after the recent concerts last week starting with Miichan's graduation concert, AKB is blazing on their trail hotter than ever since Mayuyu graduated and they lost a face for the group.

      Yes! Important to note that no member was ever forced to do gravure, even underaged. They all did because they wanted, and it’s an idol tradition in Japan. I’m glad 48G now prohibits underage gravure, but it’s still a Japanese idol thing, not only AKB.

    • @saesae5995
      @saesae5995 2 года назад +5

      @@tillycomedy2194 no, because you don't understand what I said. It's called healthy competition, because the members' goal of an environment is to foster going after higher achievements while still creating a group where they can push each other by their own successes instead of wishing for their failures or leaving them out-something they always talk about and I even touched on that basically rounds up the literal definition of the term. Thus, if healthy competition is considered the core in this idea, then even negative byproducts [that are created from anything in any area] like mental pressure and occassional/isolated personal conflicts left from or that may interfere with that [which are very important to address, but still] won't take the core away objectively speaking as long as the group is still one where its members are supporting each other, because once more, that's the definition. As for your second sentence, that's more of your problem with the general industry itself, which is an entire topic of its own that as you can see, neither this video nor this comment is necessarily about. How that implements or affects this issue, refer back to the previous points, since those are what this is regarding. That's it, so if you disagree with the girls claiming it's good, or you don't like that they want to be part of such a business, then you're not stating anything here.

      a lot of people think that but imo i think it’s just because you’re looking at it through a kpop lense. the two industries are very different and always have been. in the context of the jpop industry, having large groups with multiple generations and graduations is fairly normal, it’s been around since the 80s. it’s similar to how a westerner looks at the kpop industry through a biased lens and diminishes it as a harsh abusive system, completely ignoring the history behind it and the cultural context of it. for example bikini mvs are super common in jpop and they aren’t meant to be sexy at all. but a kpop fan might think it’s sexualised.
      i’m a fan of akb and kpop girl groups. so i can say that:
      in truth, the girls in akb are treated well. they get paid more fairly and are able to rest more than kpop girls. they can also speak their mind more freely and act less ‘refined’ on camera. there are terrible stories that have come out of 48g like ohori megumi or the ngt situation but in truth that’s not different from the terrible stories you get from kpop - like the april bullying scandal or the chaeyeon busters situation. you have to remember since akb is a massive group, there will be cases like that but it doesn’t reflect on the whole group. at the end of the day all idols are quite manufactured but as an idol fan i think akb48 are one of the more genuine groups out there, the girls are really lovely. i hope more people give them a chance.

      You should really watch their documentaries if you think its just something manufactured. The girls emotions are very real. There's also television appearances where they've been unashamedly followed into some pretty personal moments.
      For example, I can't remember if it was AKBINGO or not, but I remember feeling a bit uncomfortable that they would ever ask Takajo Aki's family permission to film her visiting her sick grandfather while he was in the hospital. But the episode focused on how she had risen all the way to the group's Media Senbatsu range in the elections and how he was the reason she became an idol.
      Originally she lacked the confidence to commit to auditioning, but he encouraged her to do it where her parents told her she shouldn't if she wasn't going to take it seriously (they basically treated it like a passing fancy and told her not to waste their time and money making the commute). Takajo Aki went on to be one of the only 2 girls in her generation of AKB48 who actually got promoted to full member.

    I just want to say something as an akb fan regarding the competitiveness of akb, while it is true that there's a lot of it and rivalry between members, it's more of the "let's all fight to get better and become popular FOR (/to bring attention TO) the group" kind of thing. If you go through even ssk (elections) which is the most competitive event between members, the best of rivalries were also the best of friendships... It's never supposed to be a pulling myself up by pushing others down thing. There are probably members who don't like each other, but for each such a case there's like a 100 of wholesome stories of friendship from the members. The negative stuff usually blow up more (understandably) but the members' bonds and relationships they built along the way are also part of the group's charm.

    Other things that are worthy to point out are:
    - Maeda Atsuko, Oshima Yuko, Shinoda Mariko and Itano Tomomi all returned for the 10th anniversary single, Kimi Wa Melody. Then graduating member Takahashi Minami carried the same role.
    - The "center" position can get really unfair sometimes. The most notable case would be probably Sakura getting the center position for Kimi Wa Melody when her original team isn't even AKB48.
    - I kind of understand why the members were dramatic in 19:26, the Kennin position was about to be announced at that time and what they knew at that time was the usual team shuffles (transferring members not concurrent positions), the members thought that Jurina a.k.a SKE48's center and absolute ace will be transferred to AKB48.
    - If Oshima Mai stayed in AKB48 and joined the first SSK, the original KAMI 7 would have been different.
    - Also, kind of hoped that Suto Ririka's marriage announcement and overshadowing Watanabe Mayu's graduation announcement was here.
    - SDN48.

    Very informative video! As someone who lost interest in the group after the departure of the original kami7, this was like walking down the memory lane xD
    I only have a few things I would like to add:
    - As others have commented here already, the head shaving was on Minegishi Minami's own accord. From what I've seen of her in AKBingo! (their variety show), she did seem to have a tendency for rash decisions back then so I think her reaction to the outbreak of her scandal and subsequent head shaving was perfectly in line with her personality.
    - As for the handsaw incident, one of the injured members, Kawaei Rina, stated that it left her scared and anxious of handshake events and thus, decided to graduate. Security measures also extended to the theatres where the first row of seats has been closed off since.

  • @thebubblecafe
    @thebubblecafe 3 года назад +49

    So Minegishi Minami was actually negatively impacted by the whole scandal, not in the sense that management kicked her out but they did demote her but she was able to later rejoin. The real impact was that her ranking in the Senbatsu election kept decreasing every year since the incident.

    • @mojataxko3802
      @mojataxko3802 3 года назад +2

      And she also wasn't a regular management 's senbatsu member

    • @shimauta1941
      @shimauta1941 3 года назад

      If you examine Minegishi's history in AKB48 until the time of her scandal she was headed downhill popularity wise regardless. Her Election track record had never even been what one would call good considering how much she was pushed (especially after all that remained of Original Team A was herself, the girls who were way above her in Kami 7 and Hirajima Natsumi who'd been long rejected as a 1st gen and treated more like she actually originated with the 3rd gen since her transfer to Original Team B in late 2006).
      She was some kind of variety television and radio personality hit who took a while to sell out all her handshake event slots and ranked poorly at the elections, but they (the management) babied the life out of her regularly putting her in Senbatsu over girls more popular across the board than her and shoving her down our throats to the point of nauseating. They even babied her Senbatsu wise after the scandal and her demotion to trainee and ignored the backlash they got for it. Watanabe Miyuki is another such girl, but by contrast to Minegishi Watanabe Miyuki was an NMB two top girl, protecting that investment made more sense than whatever the HFIL AKB48's management thinks it was doing shoving Minegishi down our throats.
      Like seriously, examine Minegishi Minami and you'll notice almost right away they push her like she's on the same level as the Kami7 girls who came from Original Team A/1st Gen but she's nowhere near them in actuality. Also her character in Majisuka Gakuen 1 and 2 was annoying beyond belief. First she was a crybaby then she was a screentime hog who thought she was being really cute. All her screentime would've been so much better utilized given to girls who were more popular and flatly put more interesting than her.

    The 48 isn't referencing to the number of member, but it's refering to one of the former "boss" of the group which named is Kotaro Shiba. In Japan the 48 read as shi(4) and Ba(8). Thats why they put 48 in the name of the group. You can google it about Kotaro Shiba

    There's a recent video of Minegishi Minami (in a variety show) where along with other members they have to write on a plank of wood of things they want to erase. Minami wrote the bald incident. She said she was too young back then and also thought afterwards that shaving her head was so drastic. Shs regrets it. She already wants to move on. 😊

  • @AllenTube
    @AllenTube 3 года назад +15

    - minami did actually do that to herself. she wants to show how sincere she is with the group (that's why she was the last 1st gen member to graduate)
    - the gravure photoshoots are voluntary, it's part of their "fan service" although i am against it back then, but now the gravure shoot age have been risen up to 18 so i guess it's fine now?
    bonus fact:
    suto ririka announced her engagement in akb48 general election. Since she was one of the highest ranking members in the under girls, the management offered her to stay despite getting married but she chose to graduate anyways. the members who talked badly about suto ririka was sanctioned.

      It may be "voluntary" but they could be very heavily pressured

    • @AllenTube
      @AllenTube 3 года назад +1

      @@aiquinn they are not lol, they even pose sexily without hesitation and show more skin than usual bc it's their choice, not to mention most idols transition from idol to gravure models (some even do p*rn). No pressure at all as i see it as a fan since 2015

I also had known zero, absolutely nothing about AKB48 before watching. Your research and presentation is fantastic, and this style of video became my favorite, all around youtube! Thank you for turning your channel into something so freaking amazing! Can't wait for your next one, and learn more with you.

    I was quite a fan during their golden days. My faves were Shinoda Mariko and Miyazawa Sae. Even attended one of the handshakes in years ago. While the graduating system is fresh and wholesome, it is also what led to the declining popularity when all the popular members graduate one by one, the new ones simply couldn’t catch up.
