I've been doing a lot of drum-layering recently - for hip-hop and breaks, this looks like a dream come true. Not an obvious choice for an innovative new drum library, but surprisingly useful-looking. You have provided a better overview than is available on the N.I. website. Thanks for such an early review!
@@benouaafrika6609It’s brilliant. Very fun and inspiring. Maybe there are better options for the most realistic and naturally nuanced jazz kit, or whatever, but for pop, hiphop etc, it’s great!
The acoustic drums are really good samples. Just the kind of quality you would expect from Native Instruments. I might buy Drum Lab at some point in the future but I recently bought Abbey Roads Studio Drummer.
I agree, I don't think many people who have Battery 4 would have much of a use for this. For me, the fact that you can use your own custom samples in Battery 4 and do all of that crazy time-stretching manipulation to said samples is the selling point. It doesn't seem like this gives any application as impressive as that.
Kontakt IS a soft-sampler :) This is just an extra library. And it appears to be *all* about tweaking - to get a combination between acoustic (multi-mic'ed!) kits and electronic.
I assume this can be used to make drum loops I could later on put into Mainstage via playback plugin?. Might be a weird question but I mostly play live with Mainstage being my main tool. Though I'm lacking experience and imagination to piece it together.
How far and wide can you draw the drum instruments from? What if you want to blend with a taiko or world music drum for the bass drum for an epic feel?
I can't imagine myself using this in a actual commercial production, but i can definitely imagine myself having the time of my life playing around with this.If i make any sense at all.:p . Another nice presentation there, Russ, cheers!
I have a problem with the Plugin, the drums sound awesome but when I'm making drums every like 3rd or 4th hit sounds different than the other ones.. What to do ?? It's a real tragedy :/
Search for a tutorial on Battery 4... u can do everything explained in this video AND MORE... too much info to explain in a RUclips comment tho... look it up... :)
It sound like the same old sounds from Battery 1 or 2 ( which weren't that great to begin with ) but it's a new the interface. I think it is called repackaging.
Do you see the arrows, next to where it says "Grooves" ? Arrows pointing UP, DOWN, RIGHT and LEFT. Press and hold your left mousebutton on that "arrow-box", and then drag and drop the groove to the timeline in your DAW. =)
@@simonw.9853 No I haven’t. (Still looking for the solution) but for the time being what I’ve done to get around it is just mix the kit within the context of the channel it’s on, eq and put it in the center of the mix, then bring in another drum instrument (that I can rout to aux sends) and blend and pan the various parts of that particular kit around Drum Lab kit that’s playing in the center. It’s a different sound than what I intended but it works.
How does this differ from any other basic soft-sampler? In fact you can't even load your own samples, and it doesn't even look like the modules can be mapped to a midi controller for hands-on tweaking. This looks like another quick product Native Instruments is dropping for the person not serious about tweaking that will be forgotten in months and moved on to the next hot thing Pick a soft-sampler/synth and STICK with it
The drag and drop fills look impressive and so does the layering possibilities with acoustic and synthetic drum samples. Battery 4 can't give you room mic'd acoustic drums that have a natural reverb. It also can't give you a snare with both the overhead and bottom mix's. Battery is also purely a drum sampler....and it doesn't give you midi of any kind. It's designed for 4 on the floor electronic beats. For me personally the more naturally (real drummer) recorded midi fills and breakbeats i can have the better. You can then drag the pattern into your own daw and do with it what you will....edit it, use your own sounds, etc. I find it impossible to recreate natural sounding fills or breakbeat midi patterns using a piano or pads. I'm not Jeremy Ellis. A real drummer will always have an advantage. This is clearly for the person who wants to go beyond simply playing back Vengeance samples.
I wonder how much they're charging for this :/ if anyone is looking for a good drum sampler/machine I highly recommend either Battery or Rob Papens 'Punch' I have both and they're way more versatile than this I think :)
mam do u even know what you're doing?:) in 3:54 when u enable compressor the settings don't work together and you can hear some poping glitch. why dodn't u tweak that?i had to switch it off right there.
Invest money for the mastering your songs in people who actually live from mastering music. Its like when you buy art from dead artists... they don't need the money anymore. Also a mastering software will not take the time to listen to your song or make suggestions what can be better in your mix...
I have it... I used it for the first time like week ago- I love the sound I got from it. It's super user friendly!

Have you been diving inside this plugin? What’s the result?

I love this instrument, the samples are great and very versitle for all kinds of music.
You wass the first guy to Review This.
THANK YOU
Keep doing your Reviews on new Products!!
when i open drum lab it doesnt look like that. it automatically just goes to preset kit and i dont know how to escape that view

Can you have it play different time signatures like 7/8 or 9/8 and change where the hits are created?
Is it possible to drag the loops in a midi track please? Like Stylus RMX for example
Thanks

very nice stuff i love NI products:)Thanks for nice review Russ

Can you upload your own samples into the kit?
Great review mate. Question, can you manipulate the preset grooves? Basically tweek the ones already made?
People get clueless if there is a lack of electronic sounds. Drums are naturally acoustic, not electronic. Look somewhere else.
Can i use my electric drum for this software , using as pad control? Thx
How do you rout to different aux?
I have a problem with the Plugin, the drums sound awesome but when I'm making drums every like 3rd or 4th hit sounds different than the other ones.. What to do ?? It's a real tragedy :/
Did you ever solve this issue. I have the same issue.
Wouldn't it be better (if have the time) to use "better sounding" software dedicated for electric and acoustic and sampling them together?
For some reason I get a bunch of static and glitchy bpms when I use drum lab. Which is frustrating because that’s where all the legit best sounds are
Okay....Who else is waiting for this to be in KOMPLETE 10 ULTIMATE!!!
Yes...Been waiting for a review of this.

Actually like to see AAX 64 bit support, that might be better than dancing bears:)

i dont surpose there is any information you have on how well this software integrates with NI Maschine to pads and such. Thank you
Why does it sound like the snare is flamming on all the hits?
to do this, I'd much rather use what I already have: Battery 4... :)
Does it have octobans or similar sounds?
Is there a drag and drop function for the beats? I doesn't seem to find it.
Do you see the arrows, next to where it says "Grooves" ?

the mics the price the samples and the grooves
what version KONTAKT i must use =? To laod this correctly
You can get good results tweaking the kit sounds-but the midi collection is unusable.
Can anyone help me figure out how to rout drum lab instruments to Aux sends in logic pro x?
Hey did you figure it out? Have the same problem and can't use it with my epiano

Gordon Ramsey: WHERE'S THE LAMB 0:42
Im guessing there isnt a drum synth to mix with acoustic drums?
I guessed right and this fucking thing killed my processor and it just layers samples, wtf NI.
Why the people just talk in videos like this? we only wants hear the plugin :(
I need help !! Every time i save a loop/grove from Drum Lab it plays as a piano. Is their an adjustment I need to make ? Plz help me ASAP ! thank you

I hear acoustic drums no electronic stuff ...
+Matt Shultz Nice!
That's the beauty. It blends well.
was wating fot this video :)
Funny I don't like any sounds can you add samples?
Battery could have used this brain and the synths, through in fx per step and that could give a machine drum a run for the money.
Yeah, dancing bears would have been nice

made the mistake of buying this not realizing it was an old product. I'll never use it.
very shallow presentation...you can only have layered sound for kick and snare
LoL I hope your just a spammer and aren't serious broski.

My! You are a little bitter baby are'nt you? lol
