The loco is a GE-47 Ton industrial engine made to the specifications of NYCT subway tunnels (notice low-roof cab). The two engines belong to the South Brooklyn Railway, which is a NYC Transit freight-only railroad. These are the same engines as the yellow ones you see throughout the NYC Transit system doing various maintenance jobs, except painted red so they are distinguishable from the rest of the diesel fleet.
I would like to get a few of those railroad cars to put around my house as day rooms with tracks and all. I would even have an old fashioned turnstile installed in the entrance of my house! Annnk! Whougggh!
I agree! And why not have museum cars 6387, 8506, and 8013 joining them? A few years ago, museum cars 6609, 9306, 5760, and 6239 were in that "train of many colors" and it was one of my favorite fan trips.

I agree with you, XSENTONEX, they should have only gotten rid of the R42's 4878 and 4927 and instead keep 8401 and 9565, and give them a new lease on fantrip life, I wonder in fact what's the current status of 8401
Aw c'mon!!!! There's no way they can scrap these reliable looking subway cars. Even Washington Metro wouldn't dare to scrap their railcars, not until it's time to retire the 1000 series Rohrs.

The is a rail yard in Linden BLVD between Brooklyn and Queens and I don't know from where the trains in that yard go onto the main line; I don't see any switch points that go from there to the mainline . It has always been a mystery to me.
so whats the deal in NYC..you guys are fortunate enuff to restore the fleet with new trains constantly , cause when they scrap stuff in Philly its ran into the ground and has to be lifted most of the time on flat beds and exited..
@pennyf9 MTA is no longer reefing NYC Subway Cars for retirement the R62-R160 are more plastic and more harder to reef and they cost alot as well so The Reefing NYC Subway cars has finally ended the remaining subway cars to be reefed will be the remaining R32s and R42

@junjun798 ok good, i just never liked the idea of dumping them into the ocean. For what purpose? to me they are just polluting the ocean more. The proper thing to do is scrap the ones that are no good and preserve ones in good condition.

The scrap yard where those were being taken no longer exists. Now it’s connected to other lines and actually used for some freight service.
That's R-30 8401. The lone R-36 in the middle is 9565.
