Dog bather here! Been at my job 6 months and want to do better with quality and time management. I work at Petsmart so we average a dog per hour and I want to increase my amount of dogs per shift. I struggle with nail trimming and dremmling at a consistent spend. I usually spend about 15 minutes on a dogs nails when the expectation is to spend 5-10 minutes. I rarely, if ever, hit their quicks and thats something im very proud of. (Obviously depending on the dog and how they handle nail trimming)
Hey! One tip that I learned while also working at petsmart was to feel the dogs nail. Usually by the quick is flat and the excess nail sticks out. I just flatten my trimmers against the quick and cut what catches between the teeth. Always double check this with a few nails or foot first, but this helps me go so much faster and I very rarely quick dogs! For dremmeling, I take off all the excess nail like I would for a trim, and then make an oval shape around the quick until I can see that little white outline. I never go to that outline as I don’t want to dog to quick itself walking, but I do follow that line to get them shorter :)
Well, what works for me is to keep a routine and doing everything at a certain order, it will create consistency and you’ll get faster within time Another thing that matters is the dog behavior. But that you can’t really control
Have ever consider suggesting to your employer to include this videos as part of orientation or training for new employees. You have been doing dog grooming for a while they can learn a lot from you. It’s a quick video but very informative. Keep it up.

I am about to start working for a mobile grooming company. I have no experience but they said they are going to do training for two weeks and then I’m on my own.
I just registered for a dog grooming certification. I have two poodles and I have been grooming them myself for a few years but I'm also not doing a great job. Thank you for sharing this info!
i have been trying for the longest time to get hired as a dog bather! because my understanding is that it is the best way to get to become a groomer. i finally decided to teach myself! even though i would much rather receive training. oh, and i know about all the schools too, just can't afford it at the moment. but i'm going to get what i guess is the grooming bible: notes from the grooming table. i'm gradually purchasing my tools and supplies too. i will have the opportunity to work on a few dogs since i do some dog walking too. if anyone has a word of advice regarding this, i would be grateful. 💗💗🐾🐾
I've been dealing with both taking too long and burnout. What weird is that in the beginning I'd do 7 dog a day and !y clients were always very happy and would request me, I would also take an hour or a little less for a small dog. Now it's like by the time I'm 5dogs in I'm burnt out and all over the place and I'm taking longer then I did in the beginning. Really not sure what I'm doing wrong..
Hey Zaida, I'm sorry you're feeling this way. Burn out totally sucks and can also stem from other area of our lives. It also depends on the size of the dogs you're doing every day. If you're feeling anxiety or if you aren't taking care of yourself outside of work. I've been grooming for almost 9 years now. I have realized setting boundaries, having me time/rest, working out/stretching and fueling my body properly are some of the many reasons I can still do what I do today. If you haven't taken sometime off or even a long weekend do it soon! Take care 💛

When you 1st started did you ever feel stressed like it was too much for you but maybe got through it and becake better? And how long wld you take on a breed like a Goldendoodle? The thing that just confuses me is the fact that in the beginning I was doing great now it's like I don't have the energy and it doesn't come out as good :( so ive began to feel like how about if I just can't handle being a groomer ? helping animals has always been my passion though and now im able to work with them so its a dream come true, honestly the best job I've had. the problem is maybe just me. Ive been grooming for a year and 2 months but Maybe I shld take extra classes since I'm mostly self taught.
@@zaidarodriguez30 I was going to ask who taught you how to groom. Continuing your education will only help you. I've also learned that learning new things keep me motivated. Boundaries I've taken are, only do a certain amount of dogs and xl dogs a day. The type of parents/ pets I wish to accommodate (people that stay on a schedule and aren't complete jerks). If it is not in my job description I won't do it. Also the type of work place you choose and the environment you work in matters. I was very stressed the first 2 years of grooming. It didn't click for me immediately. At first it took me 3 hours for one dog, then 4 hours for 2 then 4 for 3. This also depends on the size, coat type, behavior and coat type. I had a 10 lb maltipoo yesterday who should have taken me no more than an 1 hr and 20 minutes to do but took me a little over 2. It was matted, fearful and a young dog.. I had to really slow down for them. Goldendoodles can take me an hour and a half to 2 hours. I like to keep it at 2 max. It sounds like you are being hard on yourself. A year and a half is nothing in this industry. It seems like your clients like your work. I think... since a lot of dog groomers or care givers have a great deal of empathy we can be very emotional and people pleasing. Which leads us to overthinking and thinking we aren't doing good enough. I still do it every now and then. I am booked out for almost 2 months and asked myself if my clients really like the work I put out 🤣🤣
I’ve only been grooming for 6 or so months and about a month ago all the groomers in my salon starting quitting/moving/leaving. Even the salon leader and most of the bathers left. It has been really difficult to groom with out any feedback from others or any way of asking questions. Anyway I’m looking for a new salon because being so short staffed, over booked, and having to take walk ins and help costumers has been too much!

I went to school and got 4 months of constant working and they cut down my commission now I'm so stressed out they dont think im going fast enough but im doing 3-5 dogs a day what am I doing wrong
Im new private groomer I wanna maybe a gather some few good starter tips before I start grooming my miniature Schnauzers well I have two of them but babee has straight hair the other, ßear has curly thick hair , I literally just busted out my hair clipping box lubed up the clipper got all my sizes and Combs and scissors ready , have at me and shoot anything I should know do or obtain beforehand thank you
