I would argue that late 2000’s and early 2010’s domestic cars are still the best bang for buck C6, 11-14 Mustang GT or Boss 302, 5th Gen Camaro SS or ZL1, 2nd Gen CTS-V, and early 2010’s Dodge Charger/Challenger SRT8
16:40 the forever dilemma is understanding that a car with lower limits is more fun on the street and track but you still want some kinda performance to give you capability over other road way traffic. Like when you’re just driving for yourself, its perfection. But when you want to be faster than the *other guy* you’re kicking yourself for not having more muscle.
Best bang for your buck is vw for sure. Diesel or gas but still able to mod for a budget, fun car. Even more so, get a golf sportwagen 4motion or Alltrack with low miles and a 1.8t paired to a 6 speed or dsg for ~$20k. throw a gti or golf r turbo in there, and you have a 300awhp wagon that is actually pretty light. Shares so many mods with the mqb (gti/r/a/s/rs3 platform) so there's oem+ and aftermarket parts galore. I have two up on the build threads
They said dodge hasn’t done anything innovative but what about the new hornet, the TRX, the 392 wrangler, or the fact that the hellcat shocked the domestic industry and is largely responsible for these high horsepower we have now with MSRPs of less than 100 grand(Ik that’s conditional now w these insane “dealer market adjustments”) and Chevy using flat plain cranks(Ik they have engine failure already but they still tried it), and the mustang is probably the best pony car of the three and the first muscle car of choice ever since the SN95 came out, love the podcast tho been watching u guys on FI since 2019 keep it up❤️
Drag racing is hard but the people that drive up pikes peak/time attack are on a whole other level same with guys on the salt flats those are guys that just astonish me
I don't really think Dakota's opinion on Nissan pushing the limit with the new Z is them trying something new. They just did what they should've already been doing for the last 10 years with the 350z and 370z. They've already had the Z car's turbocharged in the past and then they made them boring. I think each continent's manufacturers are just making what they always have been making and nothing has really changed, only updated. The stuff coming out of Japan is mostly exciting because they've been in such a lul of making nothing cool aside from Evo's and STI's for the last decade or two.
Go to your local autocross. You will be humbled by a bone-stock ford fiesta lol. I honestly think experienced autocross drivers have a faster progression when doing track/HPDE driving. Reason is you spend more time at the limit in a parking lot doing 45-50mph versus 120-40, 40-150 on back straights on tracks, and experiencing sweepers/chicanes. You learn a lot more of how the tires react on your car and road surfaces. Try front-wheel drive it can be fun it is indeed fast. But I will say modern cars tend to be easier to drive on track than older cars. 2010s+ versus 1990s+. Everyone should try the slow car fast first before the fast car slow track experience.
Yea... drag racing has been around forever and drifting started so much later. Drifting is harder taking more talent in different areas and drag racing cost more since its so much further on with addition of paid skill with again $.
I’m loving the pod but!!!! 35:26 that won’t happen even if the gr Corolla grows roots here, because over here in Europe where I am they have killed off the focus and fiesta for the crossover puma… sorry to be that guy but just informing. Keep up the good work lads
If you like the gr86, and you take any bias away you may hsve against usdm cars, you should like the mustang. Theyre affordable sports cars. They took a platform, tried to do something new and fun, and made it so an average person can buy it and have fun with it. That simple
@@169abr that’s an L take take the new edge mustang for example even the new ones are just basic, I have a 2018 gti se with a mmi that shows boost pressure, fluid temps etc. at a price point of 20k and the overall interior design and quality is 10x better than any American car I’ve been in
@@jamesclegg8204 the digital dash mustangs, in 2018, have all that information displayed, AC leather seats and a decent infotainment. A new edge is junk interior but all American cars in 04 were junk, from Saturn to Corvette it was straight trash with some cool engines.
Nah I gotta disagree on that. Each community is equally as difficult as the other, rally, circuit racing, drifting, and drag all have the same ladder of grassroot to professional though Drifting is the least fatal.
Dakota needs to drive a GT350 all out, they’re a lazy and boring car under 5000RPM. The Mustang GT’s have been 7’s in the 1/4 in a stock motor. Some people just want the simple V8 RWD platform. Also, the modern generation mustang and Camaro drive nothing like their previous generations, especially the Camaro. 6th Gen ZL1’s are monsters, and the GT500 is just insanity. All that said, I love Dakota we just disagree.
People have programmed their Tesla launch control to recognize the tree lights pattern and do a .00 reaction time. drag racers just aren’t smart enough to use the same modern tech in their cars.
It’s different markers, American cars are usually for people who like V8’s and drag racing, euro/Asian market is more to drifting and turning. The GT350 proved Americans can do the euro stuff if we try.

AND LETS GET THIS STRAIGHT, US CARS INTERIORS ARE JUST UGLLYYYYYYYYY I CANT BE THE ONLY ONE!!!
Mustangs have good interiors, the car starts at 35k you can’t ask too much at that price point

Complaining about Modern Muscle/Pony Cars is hilarious when Nissan/Toyota have been doing the same shit also since literally forever lol

I disagree with Alex on the muscle car argument, current muscle cars are struggling to do things euro/jap cars did 10-15 years ago
I tend to disagree with 99.9% of everything Alex (aka socks n sandals) says. His car takes are hot garbage, but his receding pomp is entertaining AF.
