Girl, before you even hit that trail. You have already blown away 90 percent of people in this country. Van lifing, hot tubs, mountain winter roads, finding a sleeping spot, meeting new people on the road...need I say more? You got this. I'm sure I can say this for all your followers. We are proud of you and how far you've came! Have fun, be safe!
Hello from the UK. What a super video, both relaxing and uplifting. Love that you had this experience and here's to more of them! I found your channel recently after watching all of Rosa's videos, then watched all of yours too 😁. I love them. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
You’re amazing ! I’m so lame and panic when my phone is dying, my anxiety ridden mind always thinks something terrible will happen to someone if it’s dead. So I would have been panicking. I think you’re such a bad ass pushing your limits and totally conquering them 💕
That’s completely valid though. I do not recommend backpacking with a phone that’s almost dead at all!! I think I was underestimating how dangerous it can be. And thank you :,) 💞
Congrats on conquering your first backpacking journey! I backpacked once -- when I was 16 as a camp counselor -- leading a bunch of 12 year olds for a total of 22 miles in 3 days. "What the heck are we dooooiiiiing!?!" echoed through the canyons. hahaha! Anyway, I have not backpacked since then, but it's always there, in my mind, like I *should* have a backpack living this lifestyle. You're helping me think this through. Your determination is inspiring. "Was it worth it?" "Hell yes!" :) Niiice.
What a wild first backpacking trip 😂 I don’t know how I would do with a bunch of kids and hiking 22 miles lol….kudos to you!! I think I wouldn’t backpack for a while after that too!!
I very much relate to what you are saying. Solo excursions are great for centering of the mind and soul, especially when one is neuro divergent like I am.
How fun! You remind me of myself in my far-away youth! At 70, I'm still always seeking out connection with nature...why not? Its the best place in the world!👍😎🇨🇦🐾🔥🌱
Madilynn ! If I may wish, make your clips longer. Just make each scene a few seconds longer. I think we who watch have the time. And WANT to see moooore of you and Athena . 🙏
Welcome to the world of solo backpacking Madilynn. You looked so happy with your accomplishment. Achievement level reached. The phone video worked out ok. Hope you make a checklist of things to bring on your next overnight hike. ✅ Glad that you didn't forget Athena, 🐺 she looked like she enjoyed every minute of the hike. Happy to see you keep her tethered to you. I'm sure she'd be off rambling on her own adventure if you let her go on her own. Now that your first backpacking overnighter is over, the rest should be easy. The canyon was such a mesmerizing place to gather your thoughts and contemplate your future travels. 🐾🌞🤍
The funny thing is I did make a checklist…and forgot to look at it 😅 Athena loves any adventure I take her on, I’m lucky to have her! Thank you Frederic, hope you have a lovely week :-)
New Mexico is the best place to hike and feel amazing outdoors. Just so much natural beauty all around. I live here. I’m in amazement of the beauty here every single day.
Beautiful! Those spires/pillars surrounding your campsite reminded me of one of my favorite Az hikes. Guardians watching over you... Congrats on your first solo hike, Athena definitely seemed to enjoy the trek. As always thanks for sharing with us. Much ❤
I'm an avid hiker but I've never been into backpacking, I was always a "car camper" (park the car next to the campsite and throw up the tent sort of camping). I enjoyed watching your experience and hearing your uncensored comments 😅
It’s definitely its own beast, but if you’re already a hiker, I can see it being a seamless transition/experience! But still fun. Car camping is just as fun though & you have everything with you at all times 😂
Yay! You did it and I love the outro! That makes such a difference! Call me silly but it does. I am happy for you and glad you have athena to keep you on track! ❤ anything good doesn’t come easy. ❤😊 love from Birmingham Alabama
So happy you took the chance at this new experience! I think if you'd had your charging cable, maybe an ebook app, and started a fire (fire is the best form of entertainment while backpacking I've found) you could really elevate your adventure. Awesome vlog and looking forward to the next one!
It's great to push yourself to do things that increase your confidence level ! (safely of course) 😊 Also, isn't there some sort of handheld satellite-system contact device in case a cell phones dies? I'm ignorant on the topic, but check into that if you haven't yet
1:58 I love this girl and her commetary! Reminds me so much of myself. Not the backbacking, but the comment! LOL She is far braver (not to mention younger than I am), at 58. I love the dog and I hope she has the best protection on her, as well, as far as safety goes. That's so important. You never know!
Great job Mad's taking advantage of full van life making do of all it offers since your traveling to these beautiful spots. NM is a beautiful place, i suggest travel towards CO into Cortez, Durango area all the red rocks that you'll encounter just awesome and the spectacular views majestic. Thanks for Sharing and safe travels.
That is awesome! I haven't been backpacking in years. Thank you for taking us along on such a cool adventure and I definitely know when it's like to not really fit in been that way all my life. Wishing you and yours the very best. Have a wonderful week. Take care :)
glad you got connected with your, please be careful, hiking alone can be dangerous, mountain lions, bears and the wrong people. so be safe, until your next vid, have a great time. from a south texas fan.
Great content - the more you stretch your horizons - the farther you go. Congratulations - stay safe - enjoy every experience of every moment. You have more horizons to experience. 👍🌄
Great job Madilynn!!!!! I know exactly how you felt on the first trip and 5 years later I am still getting out solo backpacking all over, you may have just found something cooler than you know. Keep doing it! Your smile at the end of the video says it all. Congrats, so brave!!
I never understood backpacking until I did it & now I see why people love it so much! That’s so cool that you’re still out there backpacking all over the place. Thank you & safe travels to you!! ☺️
THANK YOU :,) 🤍 If you’re ever in New Mexico, this hike was pretty doable as a first backpacking trip (I think). Definitely challenging at times, but nothing too bad.
The voice over was perfect in this one. It was like you were describing how I felt when I was able to hike out into the wilderness. Still planning on doing it at least one more time. Well, a handicap version of it anyway.. Thank you for the video, I enjoyed you enjoying it. I am glad you have been making them a couple minutes longer lately! See you next time :)
I’m so happy there are people who understand what I was trying to say and aren’t making fun of me LOL 😂 Hope you’re able to make it back out there! 🤍 see ya in the next one!
@@madilynndawn Maybe one day you'll be nervously vlogging your way down to a river to go fishing, oops, no, forgot fishing pole.. There I made fun of you ;)
My best days are behind me,, but I give good advice. Sawyer water filters are best and ditch cast iron. They are heavy and cooking on the every night will poison you, ask how I know ;)
Use American made stainless if you can find em... You wouldn't catch me dead out there without a gun!!!! Your pretty little dog ain't queen of the jungle!!!
Maddi this was an amazing video, great job super happy for you and excited see more hiking/backpacking videos, also loved hearing about how you felt while out in the mountains it’s a wonderful an amazing feeling and I understand, keep finding amazing places!
If your desire to do more backpacking/camping continues look into the low budget gear that thru-hikers use on the Appalachian Trail or Pacific Crest Trail. That can give you some great insight into lightweight gear that will not cost you too much. Thru-hikers want to carry the least weight possible while still being able to comfortably camp/cook just about anywhere. Just reducing the weight of your pack will greatly increase your enjoyment of any hike whether it's an overnight wilderness camping trip or a long distance hike of many days. The fundamentals are generally the same.
Absolutely amazing nice sound. Thanks for sharing your adventure. Guys I recommended you visit the himalayan mountains k2 and Nangaparbat view point from one place moses peak.add this sound in your bucket list.
I don't want you to worry too much, but you need to keep in mind that there are people who break into vehicles at trail heads. It is an unfortunate reality. Just make sure you have the proper insurance to cover ALL of your belongings. Talk to your insurer to make sure you have the correct coverage!
you remind me SO much of myself, it’s wild. have you ever taken a meyers briggs personality test? i’d be willing to bet you’re an INFP like me :) learning my personality type made me feel a lot less alone. i’ve always felt different and kind of lost as well, and it made me realize how many others there are out there that think like us and see the world like we do! we’re just a bit more uncommon than most other personality types. my husband is the only other INFP i know irl and i’ve never felt so understood/comfortable around anyone. anyway, love your content; i’m over here working my boring office job atm and living vicariously through you 💖
I haven’t taken the test in quite a few years now, but throughout high school & college, I always tested INFP! I’m so happy my video resonated with you :,) it’s nice to feel not alone. Thank you for sharing your lovely comment!! 🤍
I didn’t bring my sleeping pad, it would have gone under my sleeping bag! It sounds very similar though when I said it 😂 I don’t enunciate very well sometimes. and thank you!! :-)
That day, for no particular reason, I decided to go for a little run. So I ran to the end of the road. And when I got there, I thought maybe I'd run to the end of town. What an adventurous beautiful trip. Good job! That takes guts to “just do it”.
Awesome first solo backpacking trip! Beautiful place to camp ❤
Thank you! ☺️
Hiking and camping in the Jemez is one of my favorites! Thanks for your work 😊
Great adventure! Maybe without entertainment distractions was part of journey within. Loved it! Thanks for taking us along.

Ahh thank you :,) 💞
Awesome experience! I bet your tent was the most colorful in the area!
Party tent!! ⛺️
You’re so cute 🥰 this is something I have been scared of doing alone - you’re very inspiring and genuine ❤
It is intimidating going alone! I find my thoughts are always scarier than reality, at least. I believe if I can do it, anyone can 😂🤍
