This is my favorite song on Heartworn Highways by far. I'm pretty sure that's Guy Clark playing backup guitar with Steve Young. He really adds a lot to this song. I love the little piece he plays at 0:40. Clark never does it again, but it's one of the things that make this song so good, second of course to Steve Young's amazing singing. This is one of my favorite country songs ever. It encompasses both the beauty and the sorrow, the love and loneliness, and the truth of the south.
I never heard of Steve Young until I bought Heartworn Highway a few weks ago. I was immediately blown away by Steve Youngs voice, and guitar style. I love this song. Al.
This man is my absolute hero, I met him backstage in Australia and he is a lovely guy as well.and as far as comparisons between Townes and Steve they were too good a friends for that comparison to be appropriate. He is the most underated artist of his time in my opinion and I still perform about 20 of his songs with pride.
I was lucky enough to have acquainted some with Steve. He was one of the best human beings I have ever known! The man had super integrity and was so true to his being!
the movie is great, steve's song his best. man, they don't build outlaws like this guys anymore. however, Townes is even much more a great poet. god bless him and all the others. Heartworn Highways is a good starter for that scene that has gone, but is not forgotten.
@blmangum I had never really heard Steve Young until by chance I heard him on Outlaw Country on Sirius Satellite Radio. Shooter Jennings has a show on there, and I had an artist alert set for the band Motorhead. Steve Young was played next, his cover of The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down. I was amazed. now a fan.
He reminds me of a mountain lion. You might get lucky enough to see his tracks but you'll never really see him unless you're at the right place and at the right time.
@LongTallYamlaJay . don't think that was a comparison to their "poet" as much as it was to their "outlaw" and they were just saying that townes was more of a poet than an outlaw.. the only reason they would come up in the same sentence is this movie... no one in their right mind would compare steve's writing to Townes!!! thats just ridiculous.
maybe my english was not correct. some folks are musicians and write great lyrics. but Townes was much more sort of a Poet than any other. the music is also great. but: the lyrics work without music, too. thats poetry. but anyway. they rule

Lol..kev I was thinking that (or maybe speed) my jaw goes like the clappers when I sing on speed..(hit some notes I'd never usually have the balls to go for sober though!) This is a masterpiece of a performance.
@@brazenlilhussy5975 that sadly I hate to say it if you watch circa performances of the lake Glen Campbell about 1977 to 1980 that coke jaw was definitely all over the place. that was also the time he was beating the hell out of Tanya Tucker too. ☹️
One of my heroes and the most underappreciated country artist ever. RIP Steve Young.
He never got clean break to be like a Prine or whatever. He was never in the right “scene” but those with patience will find his stuff.

This song has so much soul in it that it takes you to another place. Not much like this today
Beautiful song. There’s something really cosmic about it that puts way above the average country song.
This is the coolest damn song I have ever heard. R.I.P. Steve...
This song is what is meant by the term 'High and Lonesome Sound'.
Brilliant.
Heartworn Highways was an amazing document about a bunch of great artists and Steve Young t'was one of them. Great song.

This is one of the finest songs of all time!

Where did he live?
I sometimes think integrity is why he wasn’t as big of a star as he should’ve been.
@@l4dengun186 Probably. You can't be a big star in todays America without selling your soul.
Great song and as a auto convoy driver loved seeing the motor convoy in the video old school as it gets

My old lady friend Lygia introduced me to his music And to this day I still listen And to this day I still love it Thank you Lygia
And I still miss her And she was a young lady at that time
Damn, I’ve loved Steve Young’s music for a long time, and that’s the best description of him. Mythic, elusive, overwhelming. A poet.

@maldoror2007 I wonder what would make someone compare Townes with Steve to decide if one is a "greater poet."
