    This man was a very good friend of mine! I met him via my grandfather in the late 1990s. Larry John I have your autograph, I have your blessings but, it will never fill the void! God bless you brother and I love you to this day.

    This is why I love Spotify. Townes Van Zandt fan, then discover Heartworn Highways then I decide to play the whole soundtrack. This song, Elijah’s Church and Bluebird wine are so good!

      You are so right. Hate to say it, but at 58 years of age I had never heard Drive By Truckers or James McMurtry or even John Hiatt. I was stuck in a '70s classic rock bubble. Don't get me wrong ... still love the music I grew up with, but I thought I would never hear anything that turned me on again for the rest of my life. I was wrong.

      Very few could keep up with his playing style, only other one I've seen do it is his son. Bertran Tyler Wilson.

      I was thinking the exact same thing. This version is amazing so not really feeling the album version so much. Sounds to over produced and the backup singers makes is sound kinda dated. Like it belongs in a Garfield cartoon. It's not terrible, just doesn't have the vibe that makes this so good.

    This is so funky I love it. They should have used this mix instead of the final album mix which was watered down and they may have had a hit.

      I just finished reading an interview with Szalapski (Heartworn Highways director). He said he'd discovered this song on a LJW album and wanted Larry Jon to demonstrate how a song was recorded. They found a couple of friends and local session players to record this, so this is more of a reworking of a previously released song.

    Hey guys, that is at Creative Workshop in Nashville, TN. The first studio in the famous Berry Hill area of town that now is home to places like Blackbird Studios.
    Creative hasn't changed one bit since that recording in 1976 (except sadly no more green carpet... hardwoods now.

    Yep....in late June'08 on 1965 records (a UK label)...& apparently he'll do some UK gigs as well. I know that he's doing some festival at Merton Farm, Near Canterbury, Kent, UK sometime this summer....and there is a track from the new album on the internet: "Whore Trilogy", that some DJ got somehow in January!!??....You'll have to search for it, cos I forgot the link but it's great!!!

    idk how this fella escaped me for so long. This documentary reminded me of another I saw; can't remember the name of it or the name of the guy is was about for that matter.
