Man, you gotta love Richard Dobson's songwriting. Unpolished and rough yet solid and original. It's a great core sample of the 'real' music and songwriting that came from the Northeast Texas area since long before his time and his lyrics are steeped in the culture, local jargon and general mindset of that particular region. "Flatwoods-" was an adj. used by locals to describe certain characteristics uniquely originating from that area. I grew up around people just like him. Same dialect, same mannerisms, everything. From what I remember he used to work as a 'roughneck' oilfielder around the Tyler and Kilgore area of Northeast Texas before saddling up with Guy Clark and gang and rolling out to Tennessee. Great Texas singer songwriter from a RICH and age-old TX tradition.

Musical gems like this will fall by the wayside for a few three four decades again, then they'll be rediscovered and recognized for what they meant in light of meaningful music, in that time, in that place, in the heart of America.
