Very interesting. This song was originally recorded by Steve in 1969 in 3/4 time. Then Iain Matthews rearranged it in 4/4 time. It is Iain's version that The Eagles made famous. This live recording by Steve Young (RIP) starts in 3/4 and then switches to 4/4 when it speeds up at about the 1:30 mark. I have never heard Steve perform it in 4/4 time either live or as a recorded version. It works well. Steve - a truly under appreciated songwriter. If you are not familiar with some of his other stuff, look it up and give it a try.

I first heard this by the Eagles, then by Megan Patrick $ the Washboard Union and never knew it was a masterpiece by Steve Young. He was a rebel and a genius and not too recognized. I can not stop listening to this song, it’s awsome. RIP Steve Young, I wish I had a chance to meet and see u.

This man is one of the pioneers of country rock and the outlaw country movement. Crazy that he’s not well known. Only real music fans know. Waylon Jennings covered two of his songs. That became staples on Waylon’s set. Rip mr young.

Waylon told anyone who would listen that Steve Young might have the best voice and country music. That’s saying something coming from a guy like Waylon Jennings who really might’ve had the best voice and country music at that time.

I saw Steve once in Edmonton, Alberta, 9 years later, in 1994. He played a solo gig with a 12-string guitar. It blew me away. It remains one of my favorite concerts ever. It was nice chatting with him after the show. I was so sad to hear he passed away not long ago. Even sadder to find out that almost no one mentioned it. To me Steve Young had one of the greatest voices in country/folk music. I cherish all of his albums! "Seven Bridges Road" is a timeless classic on the same level as the first two Band albums.

Steve truly lived the life of a troubadour. Back in the day I was fortunate enough to have coffee and about a 40 minute conversation with him before a show in Fremont, Michigan.
He was such a genuine human. We talked about fingerpicking (he used hardened fingernails, I use fingertips), his love of the Hispanic culture and how he drove from gig to gig going from Nashville to California or vice versa. He even hung out with my friends and I after the show. He is missed.

Very interesting my first time hearing the original version. Much credit to Mr. Young for riding this wonderful song of course popular consensus would be that the Eagles version is much better to which I agree but then again we’re talking about the Eagles man so that’s not an unsold at all. It’s a major major compliment that they took on this song, and I hope he made a fortune from it very well written song
