The host speaks of cars that have the kind of presence that impresses even people who don't care about cars at all...
I'm reminded of the day I witnessed a "ferrari" Dino 246 parked on the street and it stopped a bag-lady dead in her tracks. She parked her shopping cart and just stood there staring at the thing in awe. That kind of car is rare. The Montreal is one of them too.
The exaust note is beautiful, as is the reving engine..
One of my favorite cars all-time!
Man I was desperately looking for a serious review about this beauty, this car is something else.
When you find a serious review about this car let us know
@@624radicalham What did you expect ? Hairpins and Time Trial runs ?
This review is fine....captures the essence of the car...
The Montreal was my Dream car when I was growing up....there was one in my small town in Australia...an Orange one !!!!
In 1977, while on Military Duty, I saw the Montreal in a German automobile showroom. The salesman said the car was FAR too Fast for American roads (55 mph Speed Limit) and not sold in the U.S.
One of my ten favorite cars. Found out about it when I was 11 in a book called classic car encyclopedia big blue book
Beautifully designed car!
My father talked to me about this car. Beautyful!
lusted after one these when I was a kid, that and the Jensen interceptor
You, sir, have great taste! Those are two of my most fave cars that I've found out about this year.
The Iso Rivolta Lele has the same slotted headlight covers (and also was designed by Gandini). That's even a less-known car to everyday enthusiasts! The Montreal is arguably better looking though.
I used to get the knock off hotwheels for christmas that had like 20 cars in it, they always had cars like this, that no one knew what they were lol
alfa romeo is the most masculine cool name for a car maker.
Noseefood Agreed, glad they shortened it from Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili. Thank you Nicola Romeo.
Indeed better than Omega Juliet.
Nice video, thanks for posting. And yes I have heard of the Montreal.
Of course I've heard of it. It's one of my dream cars. I've never seen one, of course.
Absolutely beautiful
if Montreal is WOW, go to see Alfa 33 stradale 1967, and you say WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWWWOOOWOWW.
I totally agree.
A real masterpiece
Nobody is denying the 33 Stradale is one of the most beautiful cars ever made. The problem is, it's incredibly rare and desirable and 100 times more expensive than the Montreal. I mean, you can get a fairly clean Montreal for $60 000, which is really tough to beat in my opinion!
@@Jean-Poule_II agreed
Really like this car . I want one.
Thanks for the VPL Mr. Mecca.
Epic car!
The reason these cars were never on your radar is because you don’t know a lot about cars…
Shit that hurts
Call the burn ward...
The Montreal is one of my favorite cars, but I am really surprised you described the handling as "great." Had I not seen you driving one in the video, I would have guessed that you had never driven one.
Born Canadian Italian, in Montreal, in 72. Sold or should I say purchasing.
Wow very beautiful and pretty this is the first-ever time I've seen this before very stunning indeed
Bertone was doing another models like this even older way back in 1963 - Iso Rivolta Griffo coupe by Bertone, than they also did in 1969 a concept for BMW called BMW 2800 Spicup by Bertone.. so yeah, a short piece of history lesson mentioned here.. ;0)
i live in Montreal but never seen one!
There is an orange one in Montreal. I have seen it a few times over the years.
Not sold new in North America . That s why !!
There's more to the name than that:
World Fairs are usually elaborately staged commercial trade fairs (a lot of people trying to sell things to a lot of other people). Occasionally a “world-class” fair is staged. Montreal’s 1967 Man and his World was one such fair. The city worked for years to enlarge an island and build another one in the fast moving waters of the St. Lawrence River just to provide a site for the fair. When completed, those islands hosted spectacular pavilions from countries all over the world. Many were permanent structures and some remain today. The roads around the artificial island became the course for the annual Canadian Grand Prix F1 race.
One of the “themed” pavilions was Man the Producer which featured achievements in industry and manufacturing. As a device to lead visitors through the exhibits, a fake automotive production line carried incomplete car bodies on a conveyor system throughout the exhibits. You guessed it: the car bodies were the raw shells of the Alfa Romeo Montreal. There was a "concept" car as many postings have suggested, but after going to Expo several times, I never saw it. When the fair ended, many pavilions, including Man the Producer were taken down and disposed of. One can’t help wondering if the car bodies were shipped to Italy to be actually used to complete the limited number of Montreals.
These used to trade for $7000 back in the early 80s.
Gandini didn't design the Ferrari 308. That was done by Fioravanti..
Yes, heard of it. In fact in the mid-to-late seventies, I wanted one. Could I afford it?....NOOOOOO !!!
wow 200 hp out of 2.6 liters is what American small blocks were making back in those days, pretty radical engineering.
Alfa romeo used this engine to a alfaromeo stradale 33 racing car. So they had tune it down to 200 horse power
Forza 7 has taught me more about cars that I would have otherwise never heard of than anything else XD
what we really want... is to hear it! Watch "the smoking tyre" review people.
When I heard it on Jay Leno, I was struck! Great sounding car!
This car actually looks like it could have fit in to AMC's lineup of the era. It sort-of reminds me of a cross between an AMX and Gremlin. Very cool car and definitely one I have never heard of.
Yup, AMX was the first thing that came to mind.
There's one in my subdivision it's dark green!
Verde
My Saab has been mistaken for one of these at a few car shows..
Amesie's Automotive Corner Saab what?
Saab Sonett Broh!!
My profile pic is a Saab..
That’s kind of sad
I've heard about it and I have seen it
2:15 You show the wrong 308. The 308 GT4 was by Bertone/Gandini, not the 308 GTB/GTS.
Correct, It was the only Ferrari designed by Bertone
Forza 7 brought me here, wasn't aware of this car, and I consider myself almost an "Alfista"
very nice car and movie ! Congrat Jack :) Hannelore (OO==V==OO)
if i havent played CSR classics i have no idea about the montreal
230 net or gross horsepower? It's a huge difference and I hate that car experts seldom differentiate.
Who cares? :-)
Gross horsepower is how much the engine generates by itself in a lab. Net is how much it generates when linked up with all the appropriate kerfuffle in the car. In some older engines the difference was over 100-150 horsepower, so it can really affect how a car performs.
The engine itself was able to produce 230-240 net horsepower (It was a racecar-derived unit), but It was detuned to 200 net hp because the car body and suspension was directely derivated from Tipo 105 platform (Giulia Sedan and GT), that was unadequate for up to 200-220 net hp. Sorry for my english, i'm just an italian guy :D
Ps: years ago i had the honour to make a ride on a Montreal, sadly in the passenger side... What a sound, what a car!
PPS: my father have a white Giulia Super 1.3 with 2.0 liter (122 cid) 130 net hp engine since 1978, what a beautiful and funny car! I love It!
It looks like Bertone took a Fiat X1/9 body and wrapped it around a front engine car.
I think you might be due for a new prescription
"Yes of course".
..I ask myself if you have enough acknowledgment about classic cars
V8エンジンを満載したベルトーネ・デザインの高性能GT
Alfa's muscle car...
Italian version of a '72 Plymouth Road Runner.
The Montreal was out first. It looks like Plymouth borrowed some styling cues from Alfa.
nice video but be careful on some of the pronunciation. lancia is pronounced lanCHa.
Looks like a Lamborghini urraco. Bad spelling :) or the Lotus Europa
The Urraco and Montreal were both designed by Marcello Gandini.
I wouldn't call it beautiful, but it's definitely very cool looking with plenty of 70's nostalgia. It's like an Italian Porsche 928. I would love to have one.
beautiful...that's stretching it a bit.
1972 ! European cars already had full independent suspensions !
You could drive it in Forza 4 =D
Too bad they don't have it in Forza 6, that's sad.
Mi U74494.
Looks like an AMC Javelin.
The 1974 Datsun 610 coupe looks a lot like the Montreal.
Looks like an american muscle car and has the added bonus of Italian build quality and rust proofing. What’s not to like?
I'd take a Porsche 911S or E for the same year as this piece of shit.
I didn't see a whole lot of 911 Es or S's on the open roads in 60,000 miles of touring in my Montreal; enough said
last v 8 alfa ever made
jan Staes no, there's the 8C
that is a reworked ferrari/maserati engine not a true alfa romeo engine!
yea I have heard of it thanks to Forza 4
It's damn ugly
Meh
