Also, it would never fit on any of the racks on our bus system here in london ontario. So I would recommend the Level and get yourself some studded tires to swap out in the winter.

This was the most helpful video on either/both of these Aventon bikes I've found. At 65 I have a leg with some reduced strength as well as some knee joint problems. I've been contemplating getting an Ebike as I used to enjoy riding the backroads around town but had to give it up. I've narrowed it down to these two models as they fit my need and budget and have local shop support if needed. First test ride tomorrow. We'll see what works for me. Thanks for the help!
Really comprehensive comparison, Scott...great job again!!! Though I'll be oin pavement most of the time, my wife and I are looking forward to exploring the trails of southern Arizona so...methinks we're gonna go with the Aventure.2. I'm 6'0" and m'lady's 5'8" so, it'll be interesting which frame size works the best for each of us. As always, man...thanx for the ride!!
Great info Scott, I am 6'2" and 136kgs, as a bigger bloke I am leaning toward the Adventure 2. I have built 2 of my own e bikes and they work well but now I am thinking about the clean look of a factory built one.
I chose the Aventure 2. Ordered it through a bike shop. Great bike except there's some rubbing when I lean left. Brought it in three times to the shop, they made it better but it's still mildly there occasionally. Thanks for your review, happy travels.
Discovered it in march finally got one in september! Thanks to you and a few others I chose the adventure 2 hands down., The himiway zebra was a little tempting Especially since it could go a little further, but the aventure was a smarter choice since there is local dealers in my area. Besides the complete esthetic of the bike. Just spoke to me and I'm super glad I bought it. I've done tons of personalizing latest being a suspension seat post. I've got better grips mirrors seat the The front rack Better headlight and fog lights as well as LED pedals To make sure i'm seen and finally the perfect BT speaker companion for music! Only thing i'm working on now is proper Extra storage! But it's been great been using it to go to both of my jobs and back. I get a fair amount of compliments and man this thing rides so well! My God, it's tough getting it up-and-down the stairs every daythough... I'm slowly getting used to it😂
Thanks for the videos, Scott. They've really helped me in making a decision. Test rode both at. my local bike shop yesterday. Really enjoyed both bikes, but I'm 99% sure I'm going with the Aventure2.
I was hoping Aventon would put the bigger motor in the Level 2 for 2024. But, it's not a deal breaker since I rode one last year and had no problems with hills. I also wish they would add more colors. I've seen some Adventures on the bike paths this year already. It is a chunky bike for sure.
I am hoping they do an update to the Level 2 this year as well. So maybe we will get a bigger motor and different colors. With that said, I do love a white bike!
You make really good videos that answer the question that i think people want to know. Great job !!! I have the aventure.2 and love it. Like you said it is a big heavy bike, but it doesn't feel like when riding it other than the fact that it feels solid, tracts well and very comfortable at high speeds. I've had my bike up to 40 Mph going down a hill and I felt 100% confident at that speed. Lots of power as well. I watched a video where they put these two bikes head to head climbing a long steep hill and the adventure.2 smoked the level.2 even though it weighs twenty pounds more. Don't get me wrong though, I think the level.2 is a awesome looking bike and if what you are looking for is a run around town or commuter bike as you said this one fits the bill. My wife and I plan to retire next year and would like to travel both locally here in Ontario Canada, but also head out to places in the United States as well. Not knowing what type of terrain we may run into visiting so many different locations, I felt more confident having the wider tires and more powerful motor. Aventon make quality bikes and I would recommend Aventon to anyone.
Kind of funny the more off-road bike has blinkers while the on road bike does not😂 I have the Aventure 2 as I was looking to get a fat bike for winter riding and the salesman tried talking me into an electric one. "Nope, that's more than I wanted to spend." 1 hour later I returned to the store after adding up the cost for the fat bike I was considering and the accessories I'd want/need and realized the Adventure wouldn't be that much more. I couldn't say no after that test ride. In all honesty though, the Level 2 probably would've been a better bike for me for most of the year, I mostly wanted a fat bike for winter/snow riding.
hahahaha. I am certain the next version of the Level will have blinkers. I do love a fat tire bike in the winter time. If there is any snow on the ground, I will be using the Aventure 2 instead of the Level 2.
Scott,.. Great review, will be buying in the spring, so far this is my number one pic of brands... haven't decided on which bike yet, but leaning toward adventure2 for only $100 more it seems a better choice. I did confirm with Adventon that the bike sizes for adventure2 are only different because the regular size bike's seat post goes somewhat lower, The actual frame size is the same. It will be interesting to see if Adventon makes any changes in 24' . It would be nice to see full suspension on the fat tire bike... seems to be the trend on fat tire bikes.. With the success of the wired freedom, they will all start copying everything they do.
@@scotthardestyI gave my 1st gen. Aventure to one of my sons when I bought a Wired Freedom but I’d be interested to see what Aventon comes out with next year. Thanks for mentioning it, this is the first I’ve heard of about a potentially new model.
@@scotthardesty It is. I have the 2023 model which I really like. They did a redesign with some upgrades for the 2024 model which they released in September. I had a issue with the chain skipping on mine right out of the box. Unfortunately they don’t have a dealer/service network. You learn how valuable it can be to have a authorized service center near by when you have a problem. Unfortunately it took several trips to two of the local independent bike shops before it was finally straightened out. That truly sucked! I live on the south side of the Tampa Bay area. Within a 50 miles drive from my home, Aventon lists 9 authorized service centers that repair Aventon products. Even though Wired Ebikes has a good reputation from what I’ve read, they have NO authorized service centers. You could have problems with the Ebike and that’s the chance you take when you order an Ebike online from a smaller company with little to no local service centers. That reminds me, I do need to contact Wired Ebikes to see if they’ll help out with any of the repair cost. Obviously they should, whether or not they do, we’ll see. When I do contact them, I’ll mention your channel. I’d love to see them send you a ebike for review to see what you think about it. They offer two models, the Freedom which is a step-over with front and rear suspension and the Cruiser which is a step-thru with a front suspension only.
I was looking for a video just like this literally yesterday but fell kind of short finding a good one, thank you! I think aventure 2 would be the one I would want, lots of country roads here and lots of snow during winter season. Plus I’m a bigger rider so the weight limit seems more comfortable for me
Scott, thank you so much for your insightful video. I purchased a Level2 on Black Friday and have put over 100 miles on it so far. I’m 6’2” at 200lbs. The large fits like it was made for me. I chose the Level2 over the Adventure because I intend to do very little off road riding. The 2” tires are quiet and handle pavement and grass wonderfully. Also, with the battery removed, I can transport the Level2 on my standard bike carrier. I did not want to spend another $500 to get a carrier that handles the fat tires and extra weight. Those are the factors which led me to chose the Level2. Having said all of that, I really like the big aggressive look of the adventure!
Hi Greg! Thanks for your input. I totally understand why picked the Level 2. I hadn't even thought about the bike rack difference. Thanks for your input!
Really helpful video. I agree, the Adventure would be better off road, but as most of my riding is in town and I don’t want to buy a new bike rack for my car, the Level 2 seems to be the best choice. Guess I’ll test ride both and then make the final decision. Again, great review.
@@k.b.hutchison4996 Thanks for the input. Yeah, the best thing is to take them both out for a ride. That will tell you which one is the right one for you.
The debate is over. We just ordered 2 Level 2’s. We wanted the same bikes, and to have the ability to load up and take them with us on RV trips. Feel like the weight made my decision. Know I’m going to miss the better off road capabilities, but that’s ok. Thank you!
Awesome I would choose the Aventure 2, liking the tires and the pedal assist. The 48v 15ah battery makes me happy. Unfortunately i have to get a duel battery discharge kit from @ElectricAllWheel. Dual batteries a must. Range is my life. The brake lights and blinkers are safety important. Always a great job Scott.
Thanks for the review, Scott. Just a quick question for those who have been riding for a while. What type of bike trials do you typically find in state parks and just bike paths in general? I'm going to be spending a few years camping in the south during winter months (obviously I live in the north [not north of the wall though]) so I'd be riding state parks and just anywhere there are bike trails, but honestly I'm not sure what those trails are like. I realize it could be different for every place but just wondering, in general, what have most of you found when riding bike trails. Thanks.
Just bought an Adventure2 from Black Rock Bicycle shop in Reno NV. Same price as Aventon website, but the shop set it up. Only road a few miles, but like it. I got the medium step over because they did not have a medium step thur. At 72 I wanted the set thur, but I felt that the one black large step thur felt a little to big for my 5'7'height. The step over will be fine as soon as I limber up a bit.
Hey Scott .. you are my go to guy for bike information and gear. I bought the Xnito helmet , long paints, and insulated gloves based on your reviews .. thanks a lot . I have big hands like you . I'm looking for a some everyday gloves with some padding I can ride with my Level 2 down here on the Mexican-American border . What do you recommend? thanks.
How is the road noise from the bigger tires on the A2? I like the flexibility of the A2 being able to leave the pavement and I love the look. My only concern is that I do a lot of commuting and in some videos the hum from the tires seems loud.
The noise from the A2 is much greater than the L2. Bigger tires, off road pattern, those make more noise than the thinner tires with the street pattern. I have seen people change out the A2 tires with something of a more street pattern (but still does off road well) and it helped eliminate that noise.
I test rode both at my local bike shop. I choose the adventure 2 because I liked how it rode over the level 2. Now my wife wants an e-bike to keep up with me wants a cruiser like her current bike. Was going to have her try the level. Just wish it had a little bit knobby tires as the trails and roads here in Minnesota have sand on them.
@@scotthardesty I’m worried about the sand that is left on the road side. With the tires on her current bike (not new tires but not worn out) were sliding. Could probably air them down a tad to allow more surface area on the sides vs the middle.
Level 2 is what I went with. Got it at a good price, but the main decision is this is an everyday rider/commuter bike for me (i dont own a car) and I utilize our bus system as well for longer trips to maximize battery life thought the day. The Adventure tires wont fit in the front mounted bike racks for our buses.
I totally understand why you choose the Level 2. I think that is one of the reasons that I ride it to the movies, it makes it super easy to put in the racks to lock it up.
Nice review Scott. Our family has both the aventure 2 and level 2. Im a 260 6'2" guy and we live in an area that is more hilly than flat with grades from 2-14%. Although the level 2 an make some of the hills with pedal assist 4-5 and appropriate low gear with my heart rate climbing to 70 - 80 max, I can ride all the hills with the aventure 2 in pedal assist 1 and appropriate low gear and my heart rate only needs 50- 60% max. If i transport the bikes to flat trails, the nimbleness of the level 2 make it a joy on the flat road. However, the aventure 2 on flat road is smooth and un-phased by bumps, or rougher road conditions, and not to mention with more gear since it carries more. I enjoy both. Happy Riding🚴🏻♂
The Aventure 2 is what I own. 2 of them matter of fact. Aventon has the best torque sensor on the market right now. I have not found another company that can beat the feel of the aventon's torque senor. I'm hoping Sinch 3 will come out with a bigger battery, 750 watt motor (at the least), and hydraulic brakes (4 piston preferred)
My Aventure 2 is closing in on 10.000 miles/600 hours after a year and a half. Swapped out the seat for a Brooks springer and the post for a Suntour shock. The fenders made too much noise so they are removed. I replaced the knobbies with street tires after 5000 miles; also replaced the brake pads, rotors, chain and cogs at that time. Some extra lights and a set of saddle bags round out the kit. I like it fine. That said, I'm attracted to the Level 2 for the 27.5 wheels where there are lots of choices for tires. If the seat post is interchangeable, the Level 2 is scheduled to replace the Aventure when it gets to two years. Final note: the Aventon website lists the Level at 54 pounds where you mentioned 64. I'm assuming that Aventon has the correct weight which is important if giving up the 750W motor for 500W.
For the Specs, I always check the website to make my notes. Either I got it wrong, or they changed it on their website. I'm guessing it was user error on my part. It's amazing how many miles you have on your A2!
@@scotthardesty Thanks for the reply on this old but still good video. "Many miles" I had a 30 mile ride each way to work and back. Retired now at 62 and trying to keep up the 700 mile months at least during summer!
Now you're talkin, Scott! 😉 IMO, both of these bikes exceed all other ebikes in this price range, and are even ahead of a few more expensive, better known brands of ebikes. I started out looking at Trex and Giant, and found that Aventon performs better than those brands, for far less in price. Based on reviewers like you, I found that I could ride faster and farther than those more expensive bikes, too. My height is 6'5", so Aventon offers the size frame I need to be comfortable. I'm a rural "commuter", not a city dweller, so I purchased the Aventure 2 in May of this year. I don't off-road, but the ride quality of the fat tires makes riding more pleasurable on the country roads I travel, with all the frost heaves and pot-hole patches in a lot of places around here I might add a Level 2 someday, but right now I'm 100% satisfied by the Aventure 2. I will easily exceed the advertised 60 miles range, as long as I refrain from trying to ride at top speeds everywhere at the highest PAS level! lol (even "abusing" the bike with constant travel at top speed and using 100% throttle on uphills, I got 44 miles on the initial battery charge) Oh yeah, one more advantage ... Aventon markets its ebikes through local bike shops, not just online, so owners can buy and take back these ebikes to them for service when needed, not ship the ebike back to the online "factory" for that work. My local Trex and Giant bike shops told me they only service the bikes they sell, not other brands. So if you aren't a DIY'er, with a lot of spare time, then Aventon dealers are what you need.
I agree with you. Luckily, I found a shop close to me that will work on all of my ebikes, no matter the brand. I know I could get farther distance but both bikes during these reviews but I find it better for me to give it the worst-case-scenario when it comes to distance tests. I appreciate the input and letting people know they can travel much farther with their Aventure 2.
I noticed how you mentioned you take your level 2 to the theater and you lock it up there. You aren’t worried about someone stealing it while you’re gone for that long?
I kind of like the form factor of the level 2. But the A2 with the 4” tires with that aggressive tread prob makes it bulkier on pavement. But I would not get the Level 2 with only a 500 watt motor. Even though it’s heavier I’ve seen the Adventure 2 take hills much easier than the Level 2. My perfect bike would be a Level 2 with 3” wide tires and a 750 watt motor. Maybe the Level 3 might address this ?
I went with a level two I am going to dress out as a long distance touring bike, with an added battery tied to the main battery and a spare to travel with.. To me, the bike that they piut together for the money makes them the cutting edge, and its fun to watcch the industry grow. My next bike is a Ramblas, then something bleeding edge, DJI or Crestline prob.
@@scotthardesty So much incredible stuff coming out. Check out the McLaren 600 coming out in August. 12k for the flagship, and it is very bad ass. Coolest cockpit I have ever seen.
@@RobBigs-lu8bq I think the McLaren ebike is out of my league. I'm not spending 12k for a bike. But I do love what they are doing with ebikes and the future of them looks incredible.
Hey Scott how would you compare a smaller fat tire bike to these? Like the Mokwheel Scoria? I don’t think Aventon has a bike that compare to the Scoria. Thanks.
I have the Scoria. I use it as my main utility bike for small grocery runs. I had to put a good $400 in the Scoria to make it ride as good as either of these bikes and to be honest, both of these still ride better than my scoria.
The Aventure 2 is the way to go. You get the best of both worlds. It's a no-brainer. if in doubt, choose the Aventure 2. It handles all terrains for all types of riders. I've had no disappointment pushing mine to the limit!
I chose the Level 2. Most of my riding is on bike paths and streets and I didn't like the rolling resistance with the fat tires. I'm very happy with it and have added a suspension seat post to help with the bumps.
I've had my eye on the level I weigh 255 ,weight would maybe be 265-270 with lunch, change of clothes, etc so not sure if if would work well enough so may go with adventure

the av big tires 2024v has a fast charger so it drops the time down to 2.3 hr from 0-100% charge as of what i was told in shop. note 2 as a city dweller who lives in a city with a lot of snow, the bike the handling on Aventure.2 Ebike is better in cites with lots of snow because the smaller thread can reduce stability making it more of a liability then a pro. due snow cons you might want to also look into an dual motor e-bike with smaller size an 20 thread if you want the ride to feel even less sketchy because some people will speed on snowy streets might cause slide drift crashes so you need really good an big sized tires. other note the bike needs to be classed as off road to be less likely to die from sketchy areas. if you do not feel save enough with the Aventure.2 Ebike you need to have quad hydro brakes on it in the snow especially if you want go faster in class 3 speeds or faster.

Very welcome!
Glad to help!
Great info Scott, I am 6'2" and 136kgs, as a bigger bloke I am leaning toward the Adventure 2. I have built 2 of my own e bikes and they work well but now I am thinking about the clean look of a factory built one.
The Aventure is a beast and still my #1 pick for fat tire e-bikes.
I got my Aventure 1 before the 2 came out. Love the ride and the power.
The Aventure 1 was my first love. It's the bike that got me into doing reviews.
Some like the cadence sensor over the torque sensor.
I know I do. The first Gen suits me better.
I chose the Aventure 2. Ordered it through a bike shop. Great bike except there's some rubbing when I lean left. Brought it in three times to the shop, they made it better but it's still mildly there occasionally. Thanks for your review, happy travels.
Thanks for sharing!
I'm slowly getting used to it😂
Sounds like you did some great mods on your bike. Congrats!
There is a walk mode, which might help you up the steps.
I use this feature on my cargo bike.
@denverspin That's news to me never once heard of it on this bike
@@LydonLewisDoUbLeZz walk mode is on many bikes. Just hold down the minus button. I often forget to mention that
The bike must be switched on, with any level of power of assist selected. Will not work on 0. Hold down the - button for a few seconds.
Thanks for the videos, Scott. They've really helped me in making a decision. Test rode both at. my local bike shop yesterday. Really enjoyed both bikes, but I'm 99% sure I'm going with the Aventure2.
Glad to help! It's really hard to beat the Aventure 2.
Thank you Craig. 40mph is hauling! Thanks for sharing!
Nice seeing you on the lakefront trail today! Hope to bump into you again sometime
Thanks for showing me your Camo Aventure 2!
Kind of funny the more off-road bike has blinkers while the on road bike does not😂
I have the Aventure 2 as I was looking to get a fat bike for winter riding and the salesman tried talking me into an electric one.
Aventon is coming out with a new bike next year and all they told me about it was, "You will love it." So I hope its a full suspension Aventure.
@@scotthardesty 👍👍👍👍👍👍
@@scotthardestyI gave my 1st gen. Aventure to one of my sons when I bought a Wired Freedom but I’d be interested to see what Aventon comes out with next year. Thanks for mentioning it, this is the first I’ve heard of about a potentially new model.
@@kev8839 I’ve seen reviews on the wired freedom. Looks like one hell of a bike.
Plus I’m a bigger rider so the weight limit seems more comfortable for me
Good decision. Glad I could help!
I chose the Aventure 2 - I live in a mountainous area, and needed the 750 watts 80Nm to climb them.
Heck yeah you do.
Thank you!
Glad to help!
Thanks! I get it about the dual battery setup.
@@scotthardesty Definitely 😄
Thanks for the review, Scott. Just a quick question for those who have been riding for a while. What type of bike trials do you typically find in state parks and just bike paths in general? I'm going to be spending a few years camping in the south during winter months (obviously I live in the north [not north of the wall though]) so I'd be riding state parks and just anywhere there are bike trails, but honestly I'm not sure what those trails are like. I realize it could be different for every place but just wondering, in general, what have most of you found when riding bike trails. Thanks.
Most trails are packed rock, pavement, and packed dirt. You should be fine.
You can always just lean the bike over further to get on while you limber up. Good purchase!
Great comparison Scott.
Thank you!
I just love my Aventure 2.0! I feel comfortable riding it anywhere. I agree with the reviewer. It is the SUV of e- bikes.
Right on! Thanks for watching!
What do you recommend? thanks.
I appreciate the confidence you have in me and the support. My goto gloves are these: amzn.to/48bBtPw
The tires on the Level are decent for off roading. Nothing like the setup on the A2 of course but I think she will be fine.
Thank you. It is nice having both to choose from.
I agree, the torque sensors on the Aventon bikes are top notch.
Bought the Aventure.2 love it,added a suspension seat post for comfort, torque assistance is great.
I have one on my Aventure 2 as well.
@@JohnBurkhertJrThat’s legit!
Now you're talkin, Scott! 😉
IMO, both of these bikes exceed all other ebikes in this price range, and are even ahead of a few more expensive, better known brands of ebikes.
I don't off-road, but the ride quality of the fat tires makes riding more pleasurable on the country roads I travel, with all the frost heaves and pot-hole patches in a lot of places around here
I might add a Level 2 someday, but right now I'm 100% satisfied by the Aventure 2. I will easily exceed the advertised 60 miles range, as long as I refrain from trying to ride at top speeds everywhere at the highest PAS level! lol (even "abusing" the bike with constant travel at top speed and using 100% throttle on uphills, I got 44 miles on the initial battery charge)
Oh yeah, one more advantage ...
Great review Scott.
Thank you kindly
I noticed how you mentioned you take your level 2 to the theater and you lock it up there. You aren’t worried about someone stealing it while you’re gone for that long?
I am not. I do remove the seat & seat post and take it with me. So far so good.
I am looking forward to the Level 3. Although, I have not heard anything about a new Level 3.
I want that DJI bike.
Put the front tire from the level on the adventure and do a test ride. I think you will gain in handling and little lose on anything else.
The Level has a thru axel and the Aventure does not, so I wouldn't be able to just switch them out. Interesting concept tho.
Thanks for sharing!
I chose the Level 2. Most of my riding is on bike paths and streets and I didn't like the rolling resistance with the fat tires. I'm very happy with it and have added a suspension seat post to help with the bumps.
I find myself riding bikes with thinner tires way more than I do my fat tire bikes.
Adventure 2 with the torque sensor for the win! Honestly thought, both bikes are great!
Totally agree!
Both the Level and Adventure have torque sensors now.
@@Timpala44 yes. I point that out in the video.
I've had my eye on the level I weigh 255 ,weight would maybe be 265-270 with lunch, change of clothes, etc so not sure if if would work well enough so may go with adventure
I feel both would handle you quite nicely.
Can you use half throttle to keep a lover speed? My dad has the original aventure and it seems like the throttle is all the way on or all the way off.
Kinda, its more like use throttle then feather it to keep a lower speed than 20mph.

the av big tires 2024v has a fast charger so it drops the time down to 2.3 hr from 0-100% charge as of what i was told in shop. note 2 as a city dweller who lives in a city with a lot of snow, the bike the handling on Aventure.2 Ebike is better in cites with lots of snow because the smaller thread can reduce stability making it more of a liability then a pro. due snow cons you might want to also look into an dual motor e-bike with smaller size an 20 thread if you want the ride to feel even less sketchy because some people will speed on snowy streets might cause slide drift crashes so you need really good an big sized tires. other note the bike needs to be classed as off road to be less likely to die from sketchy areas. if you do not feel save enough with the Aventure.2 Ebike you need to have quad hydro brakes on it in the snow especially if you want go faster in class 3 speeds or faster.
Thanks for the input!

Has anyone ever put mountain bike tires on the Level 2? I just don't think I want that big heavy venture 2.
I don't take mine off road so I know I haven't. Let's see if anyone else chimes in.
I’d like to meet the guy from Aventon who decided to put turn signals on a off road bike and not a on a street bike
Thats because the Level 2 came out before they started adding the turn signals. The Level 2 was out a good year before the Aventure 2. I bet you it's on the next version.
