Dude you should do longer 45 minutes stories more often I like being able to fall asleep listening to you Magnetar and a 15 or 25 minute long story is to short I always wake up when it ends 👽

I can't imagine going on such a trip and waking up and finding out everyone is dead and I have no food except my dead crew mates, I would've either returned or cut off the oxygen and fall asleep and die. I am not going to go insane from cabin fever.

You know I have to admit that I wasn't a huge fan of sci-fi space themed horror but alot of Magnetar's stories are like a breath of fresh air (no pun intended) compared to most of the Star Trek/ Event Horizon type of same old same old I am used to hearing! @@dinkelheit88 I think it's a classic for sure, which is why I used it as an example of an over used concept. Originals are awesome just not the 50 cheap knock offs afterwards made pretty much just for a quick profit, ECT, ect.

Creepy ghost stories did this one before, and he is one hell of a narrator but, we have the king of the sci-fi narrator right here. And I'm glad I found this one again because I could not find it for the longest time, and I could not find it in my creepy pasta playlist. It's disappeared.

For that long mission NASA didn't send enough food ?They had to take in account that things happen take a look at our history .It was a great story as always.Can't wait for the next. :)
You have to make count of every single kilogram for space travel. Its all down to precision for fuel. Kinda wish they'd invent a pill you can just pop into a microwave and out comes a full chicken dinner like in The Fifth Element lol or like in 2001:Space Odyssey where food is precise caloric pureed food with all essential nutrients (like babyfood)
Plus, Carl Sagan said so!

Your talking about a government that didn’t think fighter jets needed a gun because of missiles. We lost a lot of jets until the gun was put on jets again. This was back in the Vietnam war. So I could totally see not enough food being packed just in case.

I love how this has little moments very reminiscent of the best elements of The Martian (novel) without it feeling ripped off. This is actually my second or third time hearing this story, but this is the first time I’ve gone, “Hey, this kind of reminds me of The Martian! That’s why I like this one so much.” Lol.
Another good story. I was near upset at the lack of a solid conclusion, but after I shook off the modern day narrative equivalent of kid gloves. It bloomed into appreciation for the kind of story that doesn't hold your hand through the whole narrative.
This is why after the ICEXF Discovery disaster (completely unrelated to what happened in the story, thing just disappeared.) we started using a computer to go through all possible scenarios and outcomes (like if the ship blows up on drive start or on drive shutdown, entering lightspeed, in lightspeed or exiting lightspeed.)

Also I can't help but feel like an advanced ship like that would have some safeguards in place so that you can't, y'know, ram it straight into a star

@@srmj71 I spent a most of my time as a member of DART both 3 ID and 10th Mountain. Once you recover a loaded UH-60 or CH-47 your level of acceptable daily gore up. Once you've recovered several, that mortuary affairs has to run individual DNA tests on the plastic bags of parts and pieces recovered, you can look at anything. Smells though, burning aluminum, plastic, circuit boards, Jp-8, and a slight sweet smell, the medley always take me right back, the only thing that makes me nauseous.
@@xunheilvsnipezx3324 Damn messy business combat is. I knew an old guy that was a mechanic in ww2. He talked about the messes he had to deal with when reclaiming tanks off battlefields. I was a young guy at the time and couldn't fully appreciate what he was talking about. I've also talked with ER nurses that have that graveyard mentality you are reminding me of. See the most god awful things, then go eat a full lunch as if nothing happened.

Great story and superb narration, maybe 10 too many advertisements during the story to really get immersed but I guess that is RUclips just getting in the way of another horror story.

It's sucks he went totally insane dude didn't even make it a year.
To be fair he did have to prep his crew into meat and then eat it raw. I think even if you had surgical training, that would take a toll on you. But the worst thing is that our boi didn't have internet nor that many books. One year is pretty damm impressive.

I love this story but I’d also like to add it would have been a little creepier if he had kept one of his crew mates as a companion. Maybe that’s a bit to far and or intimate.

I actually met rafter man when I was a teen working at a gas station he was going to Phoenix from Vegas I said “why do you look so familiar?” He gave me a business card because I reminded him of his nephew it was strange but he seemed like a good guy.
And while I was listening to this I got a vivid image of the main character dancing around the cockpit of the ship with the women’s body😬 yikes.

I'm guessing the ship's AI overrode his decision to smash into the star and managed to plot a course back to Earth. So in the end, all of the Earth will know what happened.

I love that you included a snippet of Sagan! I'm good friends with his grandson Tonio. My friends and I would go to parties and would often go back to my house as an 'after~game' (my basement was just like That 70's Show, no joke) and I'd wake up to Tonio, many many times, cooking breakfast for all of us with my aunt. We'd also party at his grandmas house when she wasn't there hehe 😊 she lived right next door to Emily Dickinson's house, and my friend Jordana (who, coincidentally went to prom with Kurt Vonneguts grandson) and I would hang out in Emily's garden making up poems late at night 🌟 Good bunch of friends and awesome memories💙 Lovely to take a stroll down that lane 😘

NASA left them 7 months of food each. There were 7 crew members. So since it’s only him left, 7 x 7 = 49. 49 months of food divided by 12 months for each year is 4.08333. So he has 4 years of food. He said 3.5 yrs and try to stretch it to 4 yrs but already has 4 yrs worth of food. Did I miss something?

I mean, it would have been much better if he would have went to the star and discovered something and got killed by that but, I don't know. Maybe it's just me.
This guy gets exactly what he deserves...I have heard zillions of verions of this same story...you would think that they would have a roatating crew member awake while the others are asleep..but no...trust science...
