Not just that he can use it to his advantage...but exactly the kind of place he's in. And what they might do to him if he doesn't keep going and use it.
Is he shocked cause it looked like he'd seen that kinda stuff before especially if you listen to the lyrics. Seems like he's asking himself is this all I am? U fell for it fool. The gambino part is basically the same thing as Nudg when it comes to lyrics. He just covered it all up with that up tempo ahh song. U don’t actually listen to him.
Funny that at the beginning, when The Pipes were at the club door, Gambino did an Eddie Murphy when he looked back at his band mates. The face he made as he turned and walked in was the same one Murphy made once or twice in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise.
Childish Gambino is one of those very few very very talented people that don't get the recognition they deserve. and this video proves it for having so much hidden details in it
@destroythemindless “underrated: not rated or valued enough.” when you can take your butthurt down a notch and have an adult conversation feel free to respond to this and have an adult conversation. Between his music, acting, and creative “art” through music videos or shows like Atlanta, if you consider that kind of work art, there’s very few individuals like him. Yet what controls hip hop conversations on social media and mainstream media are one trick ponies (not a bad thing btw) like Yeat, Drake, Travis Scott, Megan The Stallion etc. If talent is actually appreciated, we’d be seeing his name a lot more. But I wouldn’t expect “you people” to be able to grasp that without “my people” holding your hand to walk you through it
on the surface it sounds like a simple fun pop song, in reality its a cry for help from the perspective of a young black male that didn't have a proper father figure and had to fend for himself through street activity. On the surface the video looks like a goofy lighthearted showcase of choreography but in reality it's a black mirror-esque social commentary on how we only care about talented black artists if there's tragedy and trauma involved. (Young Nudy feature isn’t random, it’s the exact same message just delivered differently) Sidenote: Donald Glover is one of the Greatest creative genius's in the last 50 years
So true. The beginning when he’s talking about the death of his father broke me. Part me thinks this is the about the pressure he felt needed to perform while grieving over of his father.
Thank fuck artists like Glover still exist. Making music authentic to his own creative impulses, while having substance, telling a story and still maintaining high musical and lyrical quality! Quality. Plain and simple.
The old guy laughing while crying "oh no" is such a complex reaction; it's a mix of disassociation and grief. Everyone else laughs because they are so broken they use humor as a cooping mechanism. Which Is the underlying message of the song; children forced to normalize the traumatic loss of a father and just expecting them to move past it.
It's the look he gives after the guy gets shot and then he spots the first person laughing in the crowd. That's a level of physicality you don't see anymore.
He has such a talent as a comedic actor- and I don’t just mean bringing humor to a scene, but talent like you are talking about, really effectively communicating with that old school physical acting. Comedic acting relies so heavily on timing, nuance of movement and expression, and delivery.
Donald Glover is one of the few people who doesn't need to constantly be dropping content to stay relevant. He comes, gives us art, leaves and everything is good. Such a talent.

I haven't seen anyone else notice this, but there's an audience member at 3:49 who's smiling and enjoying the performance before everything goes to shit. He was so close to winning over the crowd with talent, but then he accidentally achieves it with violence. 3:49
i more so perceived it as people only started to enjoy it at all when he provoked someone. before this man smiles we watch gambino take another mans cigarette from him and blow smoke in his face. he started pushing someone around, and got a reaction. this is just furthered by not only provoking him, but just straight up killing him. even worse by his OWN hands. then everyone starts to love it. push someone until they die trying to pick up for themselves. beat down on someone and make them kill themselves unintentionally. he dodged all blame and got the fame
@@CINCEREDAGOD It’s not the same guy. If you compare the time stamps of 3:49 and 3:54 you can see the differences between the two guys better. Different hat and different clothes.
I took it as anticipation expecting the performers to get shot any minute because every move was slightly off beat and over the top enough to be tonally dissonant for the setting, like they're being popy in the wrong place so everyone is wondering who's gonna do it to em. The fact that the singer was the one to pop the guy is hilarious cause they were expecting goofy ahh homeboy with the minstrel act to get shot but subverted expectations and he just rolled with it. Whats interesting about before he roles with it is his posture. Even though it was an accident his posture is firm forward anxious expecting an altercation as opposed as what would be the expected timid anxious response. Form there even his moves are looser, like with that action the crowd can now allow themselves to be pulled into the show
Moral lesson: people like violence, more than a straight, clean performance but as we know childish gambino there is obviously alot of meanings to this one
People went to a bar with entertainment because they enjoy violence more than entertainment? That's probably as fucking stupid as the actual message intended from the black actor turned "rapper" with the white wife and mixed kids that bitches about white people in the media.
Oh yes. There is so much meaning to derive from this. This means you’re just a little bit stupid. If you look at this as much more than a catchy tune, a cash grab and push for more fame, with a bit of aesthetically pleasing videography then 🤷♂️

not a song that i’d listen to over & over but this masterpiece absolutely blew me away. such a powerful message.. Thank you, Donald.
Dope! This is his "Hey Ya"
The acting as he goes from shock and horror at accidentally killing someone to realization and deciding to use this to his advantage is incredible. There's so much conveyed just through his face.
Not just that he can use it to his advantage...but exactly the kind of place he's in. And what they might do to him if he doesn't keep going and use it.
@@RavenDaiit's kinda like the rap industry
Is he shocked cause it looked like he'd seen that kinda stuff before especially if you listen to the lyrics. Seems like he's asking himself is this all I am? Then the laughter brings him back and he starts singing again. Why can dudes like M&M use lyrics based on their trauma to escape their pasts but brothers get dragged back in or have it used against them?
This visual is craaaaazy
That 1234 in a panicked voice got to me
Gambino: *amazing song relevant to the story*
Nudy: i got bitches and diamonds n shei
U fell for it fool. The gambino part is basically the same thing as Nudg when it comes to lyrics. He just covered it all up with that up tempo ahh song. U don’t actually listen to him.
I laughed out loud :D
i was like wtf who is this guy.. sorry but i was enjoying the song until i heard money diamond and b!@$
you do know nudy is rapping about the same subject matter glover is singing about? lol
@Kujinomics it sounds less like a satire of the subject matter and more like an example of people romanticizing it
Funny that at the beginning, when The Pipes were at the club door, Gambino did an Eddie Murphy when he looked back at his band mates. The face he made as he turned and walked in was the same one Murphy made once or twice in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise.
Childish Gambino is one of those very few very very talented people that don't get the recognition they deserve. and this video proves it for having so much hidden details in it
This man gets praise but is still so criminally underrated.
what lol he is def not underrated.
@coleber7389 so tell us how the way he should get "acurate" rated. You people use the word "underrated" so much without even know the true meaning.
But I wouldn’t expect “you people” to be able to grasp that without “my people” holding your hand to walk you through it
Millions of views in a few days is the exact opposite of underrated.
He's not on the news as much, because the news care about drama rather than talent
on the surface it sounds like a simple fun pop song, in reality its a cry for help from the perspective of a young black male that didn't have a proper father figure and had to fend for himself through street activity. On the surface the video looks like a goofy lighthearted showcase of choreography but in reality it's a black mirror-esque social commentary on how we only care about talented black artists if there's tragedy and trauma involved.
(Young Nudy feature isn’t random, it’s the exact same message just delivered differently)
Sidenote: Donald Glover is one of the Greatest creative genius's in the last 50 years
You're probably one of the few who get it. I first caught the video on TikTok and everyone trashed it. A lot of brain rot on that app sometimes.
YES! Glad people see the message in this. Donald glover is a legend! Everything he does has nuance and layers to it.
He did this on the last music video. Lol

So true. The beginning when he’s talking about the death of his father broke me.
Part me thinks this is the about the pressure he felt needed to perform while grieving over of his father.
@meatcanyonbrazil9194 Why are we quoting TOOL here? I'm all for it...but is there a connection? haha
This man can dance, sing, act, rap, write, do comedy, produce... A literal LEGEND
And has a solid stand-up career
It is commendable and impressive to do all the things. Not a huge fan of his thoughts, but can't deny the work ethic and improvements!
Man’s been a legend
A real modern day renaissance man
Wdym in the making
Thank fuck artists like Glover still exist. Making music authentic to his own creative impulses, while having substance, telling a story and still maintaining high musical and lyrical quality! Quality. Plain and simple.
The fact that the part of the guy getting shot is the most replayed part is nuts.
🎯🎯🎯
Well said
What?
@@ermertieplugit's not that hard to understand, read it again
I think he’s saying what cause that’s a reach😅 but who knows
It's the look he gives after the guy gets shot and then he spots the first person laughing in the crowd. That's a level of physicality you don't see anymore.
So true, it's incredible.
He has such a talent as a comedic actor- and I don’t just mean bringing humor to a scene, but talent like you are talking about, really effectively communicating with that old school physical acting. Comedic acting relies so heavily on timing, nuance of movement and expression, and delivery.
I love love love when I see a little troy in his eyes
Donald Glover is one of the few people who doesn't need to constantly be dropping content to stay relevant. He comes, gives us art, leaves and everything is good. Such a talent.
I must give big props to the modified single ladies combo mash up dance. He was definitely moving in that suit.
the detail of no sweat on his face until he's stood over the body, and then it cuts back to being dry again right after, it's incredible!
Good eye, great observation.
The DETAILS!

I feel like he's just blatantly calling out the rap community for glamorizing the ghetto, the struggle, being criminals, and trying to turn that into entertainment and an identity. the fact that they started liking the same song they weren't fucking with, because of something completely unrelated to it

@haladitheory Not bad... hoping to see you again in the future after some growth. Get a new producer and learn to mix it yourself because i see the inspiration of ASAP and maybe bino since you're here but for example the chorus isn't really good. Keep going though bro, Kendrick, Gambino, and all the greats have 1000's of throw aways before they got to where they are. Kanye spent summers and you should too.

Cinematic! 🌟 👏
The guy that laughed after the gun went off🤣🤣🤣🤣
I haven't seen anyone else notice this, but there's an audience member at 3:49 who's smiling and enjoying the performance before everything goes to shit. He was so close to winning over the crowd with talent, but then he accidentally achieves it with violence. 3:49
Could also be someone not wanting to be honest about liking something because it goes against the crowd
i more so perceived it as people only started to enjoy it at all when he provoked someone. before this man smiles we watch gambino take another mans cigarette from him and blow smoke in his face. he started pushing someone around, and got a reaction. this is just furthered by not only provoking him, but just straight up killing him. even worse by his OWN hands. then everyone starts to love it. push someone until they die trying to pick up for themselves. beat down on someone and make them kill themselves unintentionally. he dodged all blame and got the fame
He's the same guy who pulls the gun and gets clapped. Watch it again.
Exactly.
This definitely what I took from it, brought back the vibe from "This is America" 😵💫
Oh yes. There is so much meaning to derive from this. This means you’re just a little bit stupid. If you look at this as much more than a catchy tune, a cash grab and push for more fame, with a bit of aesthetically pleasing videography then 🤷♂️
