- DEATH ALBUMS RANKED FROM WORST TO BEST.
In todays video I'm going to rank Death's full discography. All the albums from their debut album Scream Bloody Gore All the way through the last album The Sound of Perserverance. Including albums Leprosy and Spiritual Healing, Human, Symbolic & Individual Thought Patterns. Death was one of the pioneers (and some would say originators) of the death metal scene alongside Possessed. Death's founder, the late Chuck Schuldiner has led his band through different lineups who also included Andy LaRocque of Mercyful Fate, Gene Hoglan of Dark Angel and Steve DiGiorgio of Testament. Death is one of the most influential metal bands of all time. So today I am ranking the Florida Death Metal legends discography. Enjoy!
Featuring Death Albums

Death is a huge influence. I absolutely love Scream Bloody Gore. It was such a raw, and innovative approach to extreme music with a gnarly and fun lyrics. My favorite Death songs though are Crystal Mountain, and Symbolic - glad to see that album as #1.
The documentary Death by metal is a great, highly recommend it.
I will have to check out the documentary. As with most bands that I listen to, I really don’t think that they have any bad albums. Sometimes it’s really difficult to put albums in order from least favorite to favorite. I’m not a huge Death Metal fan, I probably only listen to about 5 Death Metal bands. But There is definitely something different about Death!
Idk how you guys can rank death albums. Each one is killer in its own way
That’s absolutely correct, it’s like ranking your children!
Yup
1.- Symbolic (11/10)
2.- Human (10/10)
3.- Scream Bloody Gore (maan I love this album, how you put on 7# place?) (9.5/10)
4.- The Sound of Perserverance (9/10)
5.- Individual Thought Pattern (9/10)
6.- Leprosy (8.5/10)
7.- Spiritual Healing (8/10)
#3 through #7 could change depending on my mood. I really don’t think that Death has a bad album. It’s like trying to rank your children. And truthfully, I just have less time with Scream Bloody Gore. It was the last album of theirs that I purchased, thanks again!
For me, individual thought patterns is the best album they have, it is insanely proggy but still is heavy. The song individual thought patterns is extremely underrated with songs like out of touch and in human form also not getting anywhere near enough attention. I fully agree with your claim that a moment of clarity is one of their best songs, it's so underatted, but those solos speak to me like no other. Even though I started death on symbolic, I'd have to put it at number 6 just because I over listened to all the songs on that album, however I still think that perennial quest is one of the greatest songs by Chuck, and is almost like him telling us from the grave what life is about.
I totally appreciate how much time you spent on your comment. The main reason I started a channel is so I could communicate with people that have the same interests as me. It’s difficult to find other 48 year olds in my circle of friends that listen to this type of music. Death is such a great band, and realistically I’m splitting hairs trying to rank these in any order. If you asked me on any day I would probably give you a different order. Right now I am really into Scream Bloody Gore. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!
@@andjusticeforearl4742 yeah man, totally agree it's based on the mood and climate, I'm actually only 18 btw lol
Great vid again!! I’ll be doing a Death ranking soon myself so keep an eye out for that over the next few weeks… 🤘
Thanks buddy, I really appreciate it! I will be looking forward to seeing your video sir 🤘
I just discovered your channel. You seem a very open-minded person and you have very personal opinions, that makes those rankings a bit spicyer! Here is my ranking. The 3 first ones are a bit above the rest in my opnion, though the others are still flawless.
1. Symbolic
2. Individual thought patterns
3. Human
4. Spiritual Healing
5. The sound of perseverance
6. Scream bloody gore
7. Leprosy
Death was an incredible band, almost everyone has a different opinion on which was their best album which really says a lot about the strength of their discography. Chuck was ahead of his time. Thanks for watching and thanks for taking the time to comment!🤘🤘
Control Denied is hardly power metal. It's more prog or thrash
Definitively prog thrash-death
Why someone would say its power when even iconic Death songs started as Control Denied work
1. Scream Bloody Gore
2. Leprosy
3. Spiritual Healing
4. Symbolic
5. Individual Thought Patterns
6. The Sound of Perseverance
7. Human
Thanks for the comment, honestly all of these albums are great. I couldn’t argue with any of them being someone’s number one! Scream Bloody Gore is a great album. A little more thrash oriented than the rest. Thanks for watching!🤘🤘
100% agree!
This list is wild lol. To each their own though, I can tell you love Death just like me!
Thanks for the comment! I do love Death, I think that it’s really cool that almost every Death fan has a different opinion on which is the best album. That really says a lot about the legacy and impact that Chuck Schuldiner left on heavy music. Thanks for watching!🤘🤘
W list. Symbolic just cannot be no 1#.
It's so hard NOT to listen to this band. One of the first bands that got me into death metal in 2007 when I was 16. Carcass, Opeth & At The Gates are others. What a shame we never saw Control Denied develop at all
Oddly enough, “Death Metal” isn’t my favorite sub genre of metal. But as you said it is hard not to like this band. Chuck was a musical genius. Thanks again 🤘🤘
I agree with Symbolic being number one but I feel you ranked individual thought patterns a bit too low. Otherwise a solid list. 👍
It really is difficult to rank any band’s albums that I really like, realistically the order after number one could change depending on my mood. As I said in one of my other comment responses, it’s like ranking your children! Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!
@@andjusticeforearl4742 I agree that it's difficult. All Death Albums are Masterpiece. When I talk about on Death Fans their Top 1 album in Death are always different.
1. Symbolic
2. TSOP
3. Spiritual Healing
4. Leprosy
5. ITP
6. Human
7. SBG
It looks like you prefer Death’s later more progressive albums. I’m curious, did you get into Death later in their career? Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
@@andjusticeforearl4742 yep the albums I liked the most from the beginning were the last two, I think those are the ultimate Death albums.
@@andjusticeforearl4742 I think my top is pretty average except that I put Spiritual Healing much higher than Human. I never got much into Human but I reckon it's very influential album, while Spiritual Healing has my favorite Chuck's vocals and lyrics and catchier riffs imo.
7. Bloody gore
6. Spiritual healing
5. Individual thoughts
4. Leprosy
3. Human
2. TSOP
1. Symbolic (the best album I've ever heard since im a metal head)
Symbolic is definitely a landmark album! Thanks for watching!

6. Human
7. Scream Bloody Gore
Yes, Spiritual Healing is by far my favourite, I'm not even joking.
That’s awesome, I can appreciate different opinions! When you get into a band, or what album you get first can make a huge impact on your opinion. And let’s face it, all of Death’s albums are great! Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!
Spiritual is also my favorite
I LOVE "Symbolic"
It is a great album! But aren’t they all?😬thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!🤘🤘
@@andjusticeforearl4742 True 🤘😁
id rank it from worst to best: human (i always see its their best or great but imo its super standard, idk whats so special about the drums, ive listened to it a ton and ngl each death album has their own charm but this one is the most standard imo idk) scream bloody gore, leprosy, spiritual healing, individual thought patters, sound of perserverance then best one is symbolic, although SOP is such a close second
Thanks for the comment, Sound of Perseverance was ahead of it’s time. Chuck was doing so much more with his music than anyone else in the genre especially when you consider the state of heavy metal in the 90’s when it was released. Symbolic is great also….shit, they are all great! Thanks for watching!
@@andjusticeforearl4742 its SUCH a shame chuck died man, i could only imagine where he'd be right now, the control denied demos had some of my favorite riffs of all times, could only imagine where'd he go later, only thing is that he prob woudln't have continued with death metal vocals, which with SOP were my fav death metal vocals ever, with athiest as a close second
I absoloutely love Death (As you can see by my pfp)
7. Leprosy
6. Scream Bloody Gore
5. Individual Thought Patterns
4. Spiritual Healing
3. Symbolic
2. Human
1. The Sound Of Perseverance (Favourite album of all time)
Death was such a great band, The Sound of Perseverance is so good. So sad that Chuck Schuldiner never got to see his next project Control Denied through. It would have been awesome to see the progression of that band through. Thanks for watching and thanks for the sub!
Bro put ITP #6. That’s CRAZY. I guess all the albums are pretty good but still
My bottom 4 or 5 could probably change daily, it is very difficult to rank any band that you really enjoy. Every album is great and my favorites are sometimes dependent on my mood. Individual Thought Patterns is a fantastic album. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
Old logo or new? Who would win?
They have actually had 6 variations over the years, personally I prefer the red/black version, thanks for watching!
The old logo is the best for sure
1. The Sound of Perseverance
2. Symbolic
3. Human
4. Individual Thought Patterns
5. Leprosy
6. Spiritual Healing
7. Scream Bloody Gore
Great list, The Sound of Perseverance is such a great album. Chuck Schuldiner was ahead of his time. Thanks for watching!
NO ONE else considers this the greatest death metal albums of all time.
Lol, maybe there is that one person…..😬Thanks for watching and thanks for taking the time to comment!🤘🤘
Could be a little more respectful to Chuck instead of putting the notification bell right over it :( Great video otherwise!
I probably should have been, sometimes you just don’t notice something until someone else points it out. I will blame it on inexperience!😬thanks for watching!
1. Human
2. Sounds...
3. Leprosy
Don't care for the rest, all of them r brilliant!!!
I agree, all of the Death albums are brilliant! It seems like everyone has a different favorite, you really can’t go wrong with any of them. Thanks for watching!
@@andjusticeforearl4742 yes, wonder what more Chuck would create if not ...
@@nosferatu6004 He said that he wanted to move away from death metal and try something that was more like American power metal, whatever he would have done it would have been great!
Earl...i have them all with the jewel case and slip cover. For me: I love them in the order they were released. Bottom line: they are all worth the owning.
You are absolutely correct! Every Death album is a masterpiece. Chuck was definitely an innovator and has inspired so many people in the metal community. He has left a lasting legacy. Thanks for watching and thanks for taking the time to comment!
Human and Individual are the best !!!
Those are great! My favorite changes quite a bit. All of Death’s albums were perfect, you can’t go wrong with any of them. Thanks for watching!
@@andjusticeforearl4742 You are right my friend all albums are perfect
Sean Reinert on The Human Album is so Great! RIP
I am always impressed by the musicianship on all of Death’s albums. Chuck definitely was able to surround himself with musically talented people throughout his career. Thanks for watching!
There are NO BAD DEATH albums! They are all 4.9 and above… That is all
I would totally agree with that statement! I would also say that they are some of the all-time greatest metal albums ever made. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!
Human
Symbolic
Spiritual Healing
Scream Bloody Gore
Leprosy
Individual Thought Patterns
The Sound of Perseverance
Human was my first Death album, the remastered edition has an awesome cover of Kiss’s God of Thunder. The Sound of Perseverance is such a good album. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!
