This has got to be the best space related movie I have ever seen so far. Not just the action and excitement but the KNOWLEDGE as well.

I read the book before the movie was announced so I did not have Matt Damon in my head as Watney but they did good on casting!

One of the things I appreciated about this movie was, when the habitat was destroyed, the NASA people on earth, while explaining that Whatney could salvage the potatoes he had, he just couldn't grow any more, made a point of stating that the sudden deep freeze killed off any bacteria and that the water had all boiled off into space. Unfortunately, the flotsam and jetsam of the habitat and the leftover stuff from missions was littering a pristine planet nonetheless.

saw the 3D version yesterday. entertaining. of course it is a movie with some far fetched scenes, but overall, thought it was a good movie.

Both the Opportunity and Curiosity Rovers have returned some spectacular images from Mars. They should have re-created the landscapes from some of those sols for the film.

***** I am going to see it this weekend. I'm so excited. Our theater had a shooter in it a few months ago and they still haven't reopened it so we have to go to the shitty one across town but the sound is always louder over there so it's probably going to be better anyway.

Judging by the book (which I have read), the movie will probably look more like "Moon" (2009), more tongue-in-cheek and sarcastic than, say, Gravity or Interstellar.
+maksphoto78 Give the audio-book a try too. It's really good, especially with the VA doing all the nice different voices per character. Really, it brings the whole thing alive.

I personally think Matt Damon was a perfect choice for Mark only way they could have done better id 9f they had cast the audiobook actor who fun fact at one point ATE a bunch of raw potatoes 🥔 just to get into character for the end where he is talking about hating potatoes so much
