    I absolutely love this. Many people are talking about the lack of emotion with this cover compared to the original. It's more disenchantment to me. Sia sings this song in the midst of chaos, with all the armor of being that good time girl. This is the girl the next morning. This is the aftermath when you're ashamed of the night before but knowing you'll do it again. It's simply stunning!!

    The original is powerful through the strength and intensity of the vocals. Kina's cover is just as powerful in its nuanced harmonies and the delicate nature of her performance. A song doesn't have to be loud and have a beat drop to make you feel something.

    Soooo confused by all the semi-negative commentary. I have been GRAVELY disappointed by all but one cover of this song so far. The chorus kills me EVERY time because everyone is trying something they can't do; or edits it because they know they can't, and picks a couple notes different and it sounds wretched. I LOVE this. I love the consistency throughout. I like the different take on it. I can't imagine singing every night on tour and then trying to do the hardest range song ever -- but even if she wasn't on tour, this is perfectly Kina. It reminds me of her Am I Wrong cover. The slowness was lovely...made you listen. I love how soothing this is. Others saying this is lazy don't know much about just how much time composing something THAT drastically different is. It's like writing a new song with only the slightest template to work from. I would rather someone do it masterfully like this and do it WELL, than try to do a crazy vocal that they can't achieve and hurt everyone's ears in the process. A good musician and vocalist knows their limits and sings/plays accordingly. While not on tour, Kina's soprano voice likely could've pulled off a Sia cover no problem. But I'm glad she conserved her voice AND gave us something different. I was SO excited when this hit my box and I am JUST as in love with this as the other cover that I enjoyed. They're so different I can't compare them -- but I'm thinking I may even prefer this. The harmonies throughout were mesmerizing and smooth and buttery and gah.... I just love it so much. I don't understand so much of the negative commentary; but I know every opinion is valid. I just don't find myself in agreement at all. I LOVE this, Kina. It's beautiful and feels honest. :)

      Indeed it's consistent, but that's not always a good thing. It never surprises you and there is no real high point in the song where you can say "wow I didn't see that one coming." Chandelier doesn't seem like the type of song that was meant to be "consistent." I think this gentle style of hers could work really well in other songs though.

    • @Kaalyn_HOW
      @Kaalyn_HOW 9 лет назад +2

      Derek G I definitely can see that and respect that observation. I think for me, the big "I didn't see that coming" moment was the styling overall. Even though it's Kina, I still didn't expect quite this take on it. I do agree it's maybe not the most precise fit lyrically, and should be a song of dynamic highs and lows. But, I also feel like too much of the criticism is because people think this is a "party song"...when it absolutely is not. Is she "partying" and drinking? Yes. But not bc it's all fun and for entertainment. It's someone wild and out of control, going too far because they don't know how else to escape or cope with their pain. They're barely holding on, can't even hold it together; they aren't having fun, it's all a mirage. There's impenetrable shame sinking in the moment the she's sober and a need to drink and go out to escape THAT shame as promptly as possible, the moment reality hits. There's self destruction and escapism and pain and desperation everywhere. Which isn't an anthemic "party song" (even if pop music often hides horribly dark themes behind cheery tunes). I do agree Sia captured the diversity well of the aching despair on one side and the false erratic exciting high of the moment -- swinging from a chandelier. That is fitting, expertly done. Ofc, bc it's Sia. But 95% of the covers I've heard focus on the fun side and maaaaybe at best get a little pouty around the bridge, but not stylistically elsewhere. So... I appreciated that Kina decided to represent that side of the song. The haunting, aching, empty, lifeless, cold, hollowness inside a person who is more or less a ghost -- escaping reality at all costs. I would've liked a pulsing chorus too for dichotomy's sake, but at the same time there was something refreshing in not glossing over the "partying" part with something infectious just bc the girl finds it thrilling. That can be glamourizing...and I was surprised how lonely that action seemed when sung this way. The notes dropped instead of going high and exciting; the echo increased and the melancholy burned through you every time she said chandelier. It made the act of swinging on one and escaping your problems not feel at all like fun and inconsequential. ...because it's not. This brought that home, to me. Left me going "Oh. .. Right. .. yeahhhh...that's really not okay or fun or fulfilling or exciting. It's lonely and detached and erratic and....sad." Behaving that way is sad, bc *needing* to is sad. Something about this way of singing it kept that ever-present in my mind and made sure I never forgot it or got swept into believing that drinking yourself into oblivion for a crazy night out is worth it if you have a good time and are the center of attention in a club. It's always sad....even if you're laughing as you swing recklessly in the air with a whole crowd watching you -- it's still sad. It's not real happiness. It's drunkenness. It's escapism and pain and misguided attempts at fulfilling ones self only to wind up emptier.
      So, yes, I agree there definitely could've been some intense highs and lows. ..and I would've always thought I wanted, needed those to be here for this song. But, not only have I heard it done that way a million times, this way ended up communicating the core and aching soul of the person doing all these things. And never let me momentarily forget that behind all the excitement is someone who is terribly distraught and lost and empty. ...barely holding on. It let me *consistently* see behind this person's facade, what's going on behind the curtain, and not just in the moments that they're being honest with us about their pain. And, I haven't gotten that from anyone else yet. :)

    • @Kaalyn_HOW
      @Kaalyn_HOW 9 лет назад +2

      ***** I get it. I do. I've struggled similarly and understand more than you could imagine. What I'm saying is I appreciate BOTH, but the only one who's really done the dynamic powerful juxtaposition well...is Sia. In the realm of COVERS, no one's been able to do that well. I appreciate the value this has too. ...as opposed to signing it off as "bad" as everyone else is doing. It brought home the flip side of aching hollowness even during the "fun" parts, while Sia- and only Sia -can drive in the loud chaotic madness (without hurting my ears in the process).

    • @derekg5563
      @derekg5563 9 лет назад

      Yeah it's worth noting that I think Kina's voice is great, just that it doesn't go with the song here. Hitting those high notes right absolutely ooze passion, and here with the style she chose you just don't get that.
      I do disagree with you peanutgallery that there haven't been good covers of chandelier that have the "dynamic" style if I'm understanding you correctly (which I might not be). One cover I heard was one of the most beautiful things I've heard in my life and I prefer it to Sia's. It was more sweet than harsh but it was very dynamic, lots of highs and lows, unlike the consistency of Kina's here.

    Why are some people upset that Kina didn't sing the song like Sia did? What would even be the point of listening to a cover if it was exactly the same as the original? I love when artists put their own twist on a song that they cover. Kina, you're awesome, and I really admire your creativity :)

    Kina, get ready for a lot of hate from others....
    People don't seem to understand the meaning of COVER. When you cover you make it your own. I applaud you for doing this, because it would be boring to see everyone hit the same notes and do it the same way. All your covers are amazing, and I appreciate you for going outside of the box. Many people don't realize that you can be creative with covers, and re-arrange the pitch, and change the words, and make it your own. You don't have to do it exactly the same as the song.
    Many people also don't understand how much planning and learning it takes to do a song like this for the public eye. And yet, no one seems to care. They are so quick to judge and that's not fair to you, and all the hard work you put in it. Coming from a cover person my self, I know how it is.
    So, keep your head up high, and this cover was amazing, and just ignore the haters, cause they clearly don't know what real music is. I loved your harmonies, and I love your voice. The emotion in your voice was clear, and I loved the effects you added ^_^ You are amazing, and I adore your music so so much! Keep doing what your doing! Many hugs from Canada :D

      i entirely know that's a cover, you have the make the song your own and reinvent it and share a different emotion but that doesn't mean you have to DESTROY the original intention. It IS sia's song after all and even though i love Kina, this cover doesn't give me chills like Sia's version.

    • @rikard.h
      @rikard.h 9 лет назад

      Sakuems Not many songs are meant to be "shiver bringing potential" if that makes any sense, some are for other feelings. This cover is a great example. I love the way I feel when listening to Sia's original version, but it's not to be compared with Kina's cover, which gives me a whole other feeling. One I like more :)

    • @ItsMelliB
      @ItsMelliB 9 лет назад +1

      Sakuems she's not destroying it. She's making it the way she envisioned it as an artist. Just cause you don't like it, doesn't mean someone else doesn't.

    • @Sakuems
      @Sakuems 9 лет назад

      Melanie Beck
      i wasn't speaking about Kina's cover, i was speaking about covers in general. reinventing a song doesn't meant destroying the original intentions in the first place. cause the original imput in a song, the feelings and the emotions, are very important and usually, they suit the song. At least when it's a great song in the first place. it's always hard to cover a song that has a strong meaning and a lot of emotions. I salute Kina's attempt because she tried something else but i just didn't feel what i wanted to feel with her voice.

    all of the chandelier covers i've heard have different moods, and yours has, by far, my favorite. most artists out there forget to sing the song according to the lyrics, which are actually pretty sad, and they ruin the song by being too dramatic or too upbeat or whatever. but you are so different. your harmonies and your gentle voice suited the song up to each syllable, so just know how much people like me appreciate your cover and how much i admire you. (: love all of your work

    I honestly like this version more than the original. I may be biased, as I don't like Pop much, but after listening to the original, I feel like Kina's version fits the lyrics better. Kina's tone really reflects on what, in my opinion, the song is truly about. So, thanks to you, Kina, for making another excellent cover.
