As a deaf person, watching the sign language interpreter was phenomenal. He didn’t translate the lyrics word for word, he showed the underlying emotion of the song through sign. That’s one of the most amazing things about translating songs into sign, you see another layer of the song’s emotion in how one chooses to translate it.

She has the most beautiful voice ive ever heard. The way it splits and cracks soaked in emotion which some may perceive as imperfections actually make it raw and unique. Perfect. Shes definitely doing that to switch from chest to head to falsetto…. It’s awesome. We do similar things on guitar if we are jumping up an octave or two. It kinda masks the non linear parts from ears. Its not that you cant be fluid across changes but it creates a pulse or rhythm in the shapes. Clever if nor cunning skill.

Well not exactly. Have you noticed that it's a lower key? She lipped the chorus' of the live versions in the normal key. It's freaking high and I don't blame her. But if you notice the piano versions she does at radio stations and what not are in a lower key.

Sia’s voice is amazing, the way her emotion carries into her voice is breathtaking, but I think the credit here needs to go to the sign interpreter.
I’m a classically trained ballet dancer. While I don’t understand sign language, I understand body language, especially how emotions are portrayed from the music, throughout your body and then given to the audience. This performance is the pinnacle of expression in performance art and says so much while doing so little.
This will always be my favorite musical guest performance ever on SNL

SignLanguage Boy You are absolutely amazing and incredibly inspiring. I'm not a musician but actually a comedian and actress, but I absolutely love music, dance, and heartfelt open art - especially, darker, sadder/melancholic pieces (hah as odd as that might sound given what I do). I'm also a linguaphile and have learned a few languages. You've inspired me to study ASL. (As for mime, I did a bit in theatre school, and loved it, especially our mime exam where we had to tell a story to music, but my skills left much to be desired, lol.) Anyway, kudos, and thank you for your performance. Brings me to tears and I love rewatching it. Best of luck and success pursuing your dreams, and maybe one day our paths will cross. :)

This performance REQUIRES HEADPHONES! (You'll thank me) The song blows my mind no matter how many times I see/hear her perform. The power of her voice is no different than in a studio cut, where the sound engineers can any singer's mistakes. Notice her vocal range & control from low to high notes and soft to loud notes...pitch perfect! And the precision of her mic control is fluid & exact. THIS performance was flawless! On the scale of Adele!❤And the intepreter/mime was icing on the cake. His emotional performace balanced Sia's minimal movements. It was interesting how he didn't technically sign all the words to the song, but even with the "abbreviated" lyrics, whether you're able to hear or hearing impared, the performance touched their ❤❤ equally. The musicians were great, too! If you listen to the strings with headphones, buds, whatever, they are a joy to your ears.

Extraordinary song. A rare instance when you're not sure what's better, the lyrics or the melody.
    Truly a modern classic.

As I understand it, this is a song about her descent into alcoholism. It's beautiful and moving. It's especially fitting that the face we see is that of a sad clown, but the voice we hear is hers. Just so, so perfect.

Even though I thinks she's beautiful inside and outside I hate that people are just focussing in what her face look like or why is she covering her face. She has a marvelous voice and she is an incredibly song writer. Focus on the art people what matters inside. She is a true artist, and has been in the music industry for many years.
