@@danielryan9076 What a great band! The Minutemen too. At least Jonathan Richman, Jerry Harrison, and David Robinson lived to continue making great music and enjoy some recognition. I've got to believe if there is a heaven, D. Boon is there writing new songs!
I loved that band since 1980. Musicianship, great lyrics and a social conscience that I could relate to. Our Band Could Be Your Life. Indeed. Never lost the love!! RIP. Well y'all know what I mean....
Me and friend got so stoned at work one time that we couldn't finish the day. I just dipped and tried to take the bus home, but it was closed due to the weather. I ended up walking 5 miles home in the pouring rain and hail, stoned out of my mind, not knowing where I was, and listening to this whole album and it was complete bliss. I've never had such a holy experience in my life. The power of music.
It’s funny you say that because when I was in college I used to throw this tape into my walkman, head out well after midnight, walk as far as I could til it was time to flip the tape over, then head home. The round trip was just about 5 miles. Perfect walking music when you don’t want any distractions from what’s going on around you.

The band I was in, Republic of Sherpa, opened for Minutemen at the Anti Club in LA. a couple years later, I saw them open for Meat Puppets and Husker Du at Berkeley Square. Then, I saw them at Al's Bar in LA. I was standing right in front center stage taking it all in. I think that this was the last time they played before the crash. The band was incredibly tight. I think they must have been a huge influence on later bands like Sublime.
You mentioned the anti club brings back memories. I was out front of the anti club in 1983 or 1984. The minutemen were headlining.I had met DBoon in 1970 as we had a mutual friend Dale And we'd go down to Pecks Park in San Pedro and play. First day I met him, he was up in a tree. It's a vivid memory. So here it is 1983 or 1984 and I'm hanging outside the club and he comes outside.I say hey Dennes . Let's say back then, not that many people knew his real name. He looked up at me, a bit taken back I Explained how I knew him. We talked a bit and then he invited me to come in on his behalf free. Who would have known that kid in the tree would have become such an icon for punk rock. RiP Dennes
@@richardlavarini7334 It's great to see the Minutemen videos showing up on RUclips. Hurley and Watt were such a tight rhythm section, and D. Boon was a working class poet with serious Jazz chops!
Im old but -Freshman year HS. Phx Az. 1980 they played local boxing rink turned pro wrestling turned events. Chain link fence. Line up. Black flag (but canceled due to broken arm). One of the best bands ever ever D boon most incredible musician all that freaking energy all that Talent gone forever so sad so glad that we got this to listen to though!!!
I saw this video ONCE on MTV in 1983. I was still square, so I hated it at the time. But I never forgot it. A few years later when I caught up I said "AAAAH!"
Certainly one of them. Also, George Hurley seems to be known only to other players. I can't imagine a discussion of Western musicians of that period without him.
D. Boon once had an encounter at work in which his boss refused to let him listen to the local jazz/soul radio station because it would play songs by Black musicians. Boon wanted to quit his job but needed the income so he wrote the song “This Ain’t No Picnic” (which appears on Double Nickels on the Dime) in response to his employer’s racist attitude.
I seriously doubt that Ginn personally removes the videos himself, sure it is his company, but still... Thanks for posting this video. Minutemen Are all kinds of awesome kickass!
Mr. Thunderbroom Extraordinare Michael Watt. He's off pulling shore duty these days; jamming econo faithful. Go see him if he pulls into your town. Killer bass player up there with Squire and East.
Wow, never been much of a punk fan and never heard of the Minutemen, but these guys are awesome in an unpolished and raw sort of way. Even the lyrics to the song are great. What a loss to the genre Boon's death was.
One of the highlights of my life was back in the 80s I experienced smoking a gnarly spliff with H.R., Mike Watt, Kira and Angelo Moore. That was cool AF.😎
I'm not sure why you said that but someone (Not necessarily only you) might learn or remember something here by reading this: Music isn't always supposed to be pleasurable; It can be sung as a warning to not do something or as a guide or as a happy song or a sad song, Or as a confused or angry song... There are probably other things I didn't list. And D. Boon EQ'd his guitar amp that way on purpose to make room for the other instruments, So I read.
Come to think of it I agree with you somewhat now, Thanks. Some of their songs do sound chaotic, antagonistic and such to me whether or not they were intentionally written that way.
We need the Minutemen now more than ever. But of course that’s always how it goes
underrated comment, just like Minutemen

underrated??? He is one of the major influences for RHCP en Frusciante....

Wicked wicked Bass!!!
CouchCutter he's Mike Watt a great bass player👍
the most talented (skill wise) to come out of california in the 80s in my opinion, if not all of america.
Double Nickles on the Dime should be taught in every 6th grade music class
And social studies

Easily, the greatest American band (of any genre) of the last 50 years.
One of those bands that’s unfortunately been easily overlooked

I remember this was aired a lot on U-68 in the 80's. wish they would have archived and re-show the news with Uncle Floyd.
Love that shot of Mike punching the air

I really think this is one of Minutemen's best songs, such attitude, such a unique buildup and a fuckin hell of a bass line.
I'm celebrating the Minutemen the night before National Women's Day because it had something so simple and so powerful to say. Thank you.

To me this is punk rock at its best, this is on the level of Coltrane, Mozart, Ween. Absolutly fucking amazing. R.I.P. D Boone
Coltrane, Mozart.
Ween.
Ween
How could ya EVEN include such MEDIOCRE wussy bands/musicians like Ween and Coltrane to the grand Mozart?!
I agree that Ween’s up there with them, at least to some degree
Hell yeah Ween is the shit
wow it stayed up! all these years.....that's amazing.....
Who knows what sort of musical greats they could’ve turned into. Dang.
They already are greats dude
Gang Of Four, Minutemen, SOAD, Dillinger Escape Plan All part of the lineage.

it's never too late
Some of it did, you just gotta search. Lot's of cool minutemen influenced post-hardcore round there. Some math even.
too sad that hardcore went into bullshit hipster music like hot water music or comeback kid
Well it kinda did but it was more unknown, this basically turned into math rock. You should check out a band called Solanki if you like this
Hell no. Heroin, Mohinder, and Assfactor 4 are unfuckwithable.
