    I am Cornhusker-born and Cornhusker-bred, and when I die I'll be Cornhusker dead, but this is the rivalry against which all others should be judged for one reason: respect. I didn't quite know what to expect when I moved down into Okieland as a Husker fan, but I was so gratified to learn that the vast majority of Sooner fans were like us, they despised Texas and wants to destroy them every year, but they have nothing but great respect for Nebraska. OU was the team that we Nebraska fans wanted so badly to beat, but we never have hated OU. It is a rivalry born out of mutual respect and striving to be the best by beating the best.

    Wow this is crazy that they have the phone calls to the 78 orange bowl invites. Awesome video. Go Huskers but huge respect to OU.

    Thank you for posting this. I miss the Oklahoma/Nebraska game. Can’t wait until 2021 when Lincoln Riley faces the Huskers for the first time. BOOMER!

    My dad always said the best opposing fans are Nebraska fans! They are intense but respect quality football just like we do. The only opposing stadium where you are welcome to any tail gate no matter which side their on. And let's be truthful it sucked when Colorado & Texas A&m left but the real impact was from Nebraska's departure from Big 12.

    Oh man were those the days. I don’t expect the Huskers to hang this year but I hope they can at least make it interesting. Hoping for a epic 50th anniversary game in two weeks

      Who would have thought that eventually, both Nebraska and Oklahoma would leave the Big 8 / 12? Here's hoping you guys win a bunch of SEC titles and maybe we'll start seeing you in the playoffs as B1G Champs.

    Two more memorable games happened since the taping of this. The 2009 game in Lincoln and the 2010 big XII championship. Was so happy Nebraska’s last game on that conference was against OU

    Osborne started out slowly in the rivalry. Then he dominated it. His earlier Husker teams weren't as fast or flashy as the Sooners. They were like death, taxes and crooked politicians. A certainty. Much as I despise the crooked fraud that was Barry Switzer, he had enormous respect for Nebraska. How could he not? As Switzer himself stated, the Cornhuskers were rated number one at some point in every decade from the 1960s into the 2000s! A record no team has approached. Osbornes rock solid combination of fundamental power and discipline far exceeded the legacy of Switzer. His lack of ethics and disregard for the rules eventually blew up in his face. And blew up on the Sooners as well. As powerful as Switzers earlier Oklahoma teams were, they don't compare to Osbornes 1993-97 championship run. Nobody does! A 60-3 record over five seasons with three national titles. Following the blueprint of Miami and Florida State, Osborne went after speed on defense. The result was the greatest combination of power, speed and depth collegiate football has ever seen. The 1995 Cornhuskers were the most powerful team I have witnessed to this day. Destroying Florida 62-24 in the Fiesta Bowl. Even the current Alabama dynasty couldn't match that five year run. Looking at the careers of Devaney and Osborne, both retired at the peak of their powers. Five national titles in the final seasons of their careers. For a sustained run of excellence no programs will ever match the Big Red from 1962-2000. Not now. Not ever.

      Spare us this stuff. While Osborne, unlike Switzer wasn't a partier and could keep his dick in his pants... Nebraska could match Oklahoma on a thug per thug basis. Nebraska used PEDs in the 1980s and 1990s that were illegal (Anabolic steroids and Creatine). Had the bogus walk on program and had the "families" who "took care" of the players. You all had great teams... but you all had skeletons in your closet as well.

    What Roy Williams describes as the problem in 2001 is the problem that Stoops never fixed-the arrogance that led to so many ridiculous losses and so many chokes costing NC's.

  • @SoonerBear

    Better coach: Devaney/Osborne? I think they both had the same # of NCs. Devaney was more like Switzer as far as personality. Osborne, Gibbs, Switzer's successor. Classy rivalry. I like to point out that when you look at how bad Schellenberger and Blake's teams were, Gibbs was actually successful. What led to his undoing was his record vs. Texas, Nebraska & Colorado. 2-15-1. Thanks for posting this. OU fan here. BOOMER!

    Brings tears to my eyes. Y'all still have the upper hand but damn our boys left it all on the table. Only team I don't hate is Oklahoma. From this Husker to you Boomers, much love.

      The game should be played every year. On thanksgiving day.
      This game was the most important in college football for decades and the big 12 and Texas just... took it away.

    • @ZakJJ1
      @ZakJJ1 3 года назад

      @@ethanbabb3423 exactly. It was a tradition. Much like the Missouri Nebraska bell etc. Nebraska would have had a rough go of it in recent years but I would still love to see it happen. Hell, I never wanted to go to the big 10 in the first place. The big 8 and 12 will always be home in my heart.

    Where will this grand rivalry be in a hundred years....what a sad,sad, SAD, question by this documentary. Like Penn State - Pitt, Texas-Texas A&M, Missouri-Kansas, West Virginia -Pittsburgh, Arkansas-Texas, and other annual traditional rivalries.....sadly...the way of the Do-Do Bird.
