1996 College Football Playoffs 1996 Fiesta Bowl Nebraska vs. Tennessee 1996 Cotton Bowl Florida vs. Ohio State 1996 College Football Playoffs Final Nebraska vs. Florida 1995 National Championship Nebraska Cornhuskers
This video was released before they played that game. I know because I got a copy of it on home video for Christmas that year, and watched it for the first time the day before the Florida game.
They predicted Nebraska's moves back then as well. They just lacked the personnel to counter them like they could now. They knew what was coming but were powerless to stop it. Nebraska pioneered the whole "strength and conditioning" aspect of college football, and had a big edge in terms of raw physical power, as well as a crazy deep bench that let them keep going after opponents wore out their starters. The three things that killed Nebraska's previously unstoppable ground game on offense and their terrifyingly powerful and aggressive defense were 1: Changes in the university's athletic department and the hiring of new coaches who favored a more "pro-style" offense, 2: Other teams' Strength and Conditioning programs caught up to Nebraska's in quality and ultimately surpassed it, and 3: the NCAA changed the rules regarding walk-on players, which had been the reason for the Cornhuskers' insane depth, so they lost that advantage as well.
Then Nebraska joined a real football conference.... 😂. All jokes aside, Osborne made these teams by getting the best out of his players by being a good human being and coach. He is very underrated in college football lore.
@@robjohnson8861 yet too bad it say once again Nebraska 3 National Titles FSU 2. Sorry to tell you this, guess what I think Nebraska was just happy as FSU.
Uh excuse me but how does a single year translate to a "decade" of dominance?? Sure they had a good run from 93-97 but even that is 5 years not 10.........
Dropped off considerably after Osborn retired. Yes they made the natty game in 01 but first off shouldnt have been there over Oregon and then proved it by getting creamed.
+ rawn4203 Nebraska had the best overall record in the 90's and the most national championships in the 90's. They never won fewer than 9 games in a season. And anybody would've been creamed by that Miami team on '01. Nebraska did Oregon a favor. Oregon didn't deserve to be there any more than Nebraska. Any team that loses a game has no right to bitch. The same would've been true if Oregon had been selected. Nebraska would've had no right to bitch.
Not to be picky, as Nebraska did have a great winning % for the 1990s, but when you said they had the best winning % of the 90s, I had to check that as FSU was pretty strong that decade and sure enough, FSU had the best winning % of the 90s (tossing out Marshall due to not playing nearly as many games as Nebby or FSU) football.stassen.com/cgi-bin/records/calc-wp.pl?start=1990&end=1999&rpct=30&min=5&se=on&by=Win+Pct
Good catch. I knew FSU and Nebraska were extremely close in winning %. I thought Nebraska was slightly higher but I was wrong. Those 2 were on a different level in the 90's. Other teams were up and down but those 2 were remarkably consistent.

Rob Johnson still editing comments, and yet by the way, 1991, Erickson won the title with his players so yea. Oh thanks to Erickson, Ray Lewis and Warren Sapp don’t go to Miami, get the recognition which gets them to the NFL and oh yea become NFL Hall of Famers.
@@robjohnson8861 so as freshman, they aren’t those coaches players they bring in? You aren’t making sense, guess what you can try to deny it, but the fact is 91, it was Erickson’s guys that won it. I give it to Johnson’s guys in 89. But sorry the majority of players for 91 was Erickson’s. Any smart man can see it which you are not.
@@robjohnson8861 only thing is dumba$$ is Erickson’s other National Title was 1991 and there was still majority of Johnson’s guys on the team yet. Maybe let smart people that know football actually handle football.
But since you like comparing let’s look at something. 1997 Michigan’s close games Iowa 28-24, Ohio State 20-14, while Nebraska had Missouri 45-38. Now yes Michigan’s best case was Colorado, but let’s look at best performance against final ranked teams. Michigan’s best game was against Penn State 34-8. Nebraska has let’s see oh yea Washington 27-14, Kansas State 56-26, Texas A&M 54-15 and Tennessee 42-17.
Oh another thing I’ve got friends that are Michigan fans, they do recognize Nebraska as champs in 1997. Another thing, your other polls, they don’t recognize that, only AP poll while Nebraska took coaches. See the difference is true fans actually know the actual polls that count. Get over yourself and stay in momma’s basement and suck on your thumb. Don’t go bashing your keyboard now. Hate to have your momma buy you a new one again
@@robjohnson8861 seriously dude, you don’t know anything when it comes to football. Just stop trying, the only thing you’re trying to impress is yourself. You are the greatest example of a troll. And from gathering from fans of other groups, you’re sure good at it. Your momma must be so proud.
Let the people that actually know football handle things while you sit on your computer. No one cares what you have to say.
@@robjohnson8861 sometimes I think you didn’t finish grade school. Maybe think again. Guess what we go by the end of the season schedule and Nebraska finished with the stronger schedule. And better wins against ranked teams. PERIOD!
Also unlike you, as o say before and I say it again, I have friends and they recognize Nebraska as National Champs with Michigan. Get over yourself and just stop while you can.
Maybe it’s time for you to go back to grade school

The HOMETOWN Hurricanes, that explains everything when beating any Florida team in Florida.
not if Pat Tillman has anything to say about it
That was the next year, not 1995
WHY IS THERE NOT A 30 for 30 on them?????
Where's the Florida game?
This video was released before they played that game. I know because I got a copy of it on home video for Christmas that year, and watched it for the first time the day before the Florida game.
Makovica was #45 not 22
Joel was 45, but his older brother Jeff wore 22
We should have 9-10 championships

Previously Nebraska running game is so good that its very hard for opposing team...However,nowdays people can predict those moves and counter it.
Best team ever bar none

Then Nebraska joined a real football conference.... 😂. All jokes aside, Osborne made these teams by getting the best out of his players by being a good human being and coach. He is very underrated in college football lore.
Sorry I kicked your ass so much, Nick Saban. Ha!
Should be re-titled as "SEASON of Dominance."
Won more games in the 90’s than any other.
@@dwighta8655 Nope. Not correct. FSU was 109-13, NEB was 108-16-1.
Nebraska was the team of the 90's. 💯🙏😇
@@robjohnson8861 dude, you forgot a tie for FSU but nice try, also Nebraska 3 National Championships, Florida State, 2. 90’s belonged to Nebraska
@@robjohnson8861 yet too bad it say once again Nebraska 3 National Titles FSU 2. Sorry to tell you this, guess what I think Nebraska was just happy as FSU.
I’d forgotten how truly annoying the old radio announcer was
Confused, decade but this is just one year, 1995. Where's the decades? Oh, sigh. 5-19-2022
Uh excuse me but how does a single year translate to a "decade" of dominance?? Sure they had a good run from 93-97 but even that is 5 years not 10.........
108-16 record over those ten years. 3 national titles. the list goes on.
Not to be picky, as Nebraska did have a great winning % for the 1990s, but when you said they had the best winning % of the 90s, I had to check that as FSU was pretty strong that decade and sure enough, FSU had the best winning % of the 90s (tossing out Marshall due to not playing nearly as many games as Nebby or FSU)
football.stassen.com/cgi-bin/records/calc-wp.pl?start=1990&end=1999&rpct=30&min=5&se=on&by=Win+Pct
Good catch. I knew FSU and Nebraska were extremely close in winning %. I thought Nebraska was slightly higher but I was wrong. Those 2 were on a different level in the 90's. Other teams were up and down but those 2 were remarkably consistent.
They bragging about having more fan's in the stands than Kansas 😆 😆 it's Kansas not Notre Dame or Michigan
Never be that way again they are done
There was no decade of dominance by Nebraska ,what the hell are they talking about?
Yeah, 5-5 in bowls is not dominance.
@@robjohnson8861 Nebraska along with Michigan and Texas have always been overrated.
@@robjohnson8861 Nebraska along with Michigan and Texas have always been overrated.
@@charleslowe2095 Like I say, Texas will find a way one day. Amazing they never have.
@@robjohnson8861 yet when you run 3 National Championships, and school next to you wins 2, that’s a good-great decade. Course what would you know, never played the sport anyway
Those Nebraska teams wouldn't stand a chance against the 80's hurricanes or Alabama from this past season.
Those Nebraska teams wouldn’t even stand a chance against Ohio State of today.
@@thechristopherfaurisshow Nebraska football has been irrelevant since Tom Osborne retired.
@@thechristopherfaurisshow yet teams copy each other and teams wanted the Nebraska defense, speed and attack. College football is a copy cat. Nebraska learned from the losses to Miami and Florida State, the offense wasn’t the problem, it was defense. One they made the change, they were dominant. Look at the teams these days, Alabama, Clemson why they are consistently in the title hunt, their defense.
@@charleslowe2095 only because Nebraska is the only school not to fire 1 but 2 coaches after a 9 win season. But look at what Nebraska did from losing to Miami in the 80’s. They learned and changed their style of recruiting, and style on defense. Once they did that, they were a great team.
Say you know nothing about football without actually saying you know nothing about football
