    Coach Osborne is a great man. His focus on the process kept Nebraska at or near the top his entire tenure. 82 and 83 were special teams. 93 just missed. 94 was so satisfying in Miami. 95 team the best ever. 97 team resilient and sent coach out on top.

      There are so many reasons this can be debated. for 1, He owns 4 of his 6 national championships from the BCS era, a truly despised system for picking the two best teams to meet for the NC game.
      Let's look at the 4.
      LSU vs OU (OU was defeated 35-7 in their Big 12 championship game). Had the same formula been used to pair the top 2 teams the 5 years before this game and the 9 years after, LSU would have faced USC (the AP NCs that year), not OU.
      AL vs ND. We were all sick about how this game came to be. Sh*t ND had to go to 3 OTs at home to beat a bad Pitt team.
      AL vs LSU. How did Bama lose to LSU, not win their conference and get to leap frog other teams.
      AL vs TX. The only game of the 4 BCS NCs that any fan could embrace as being truly legit.
      Can't blame Saban for being part of a bad system, but you can't anoint him king either for 3 of 4 of these games.

      College footballs greatest announcer narrating the biography of its greatest coach. Name another coach that followed a living legend and then surpassed him? The great Bob Devaney hand picked Osborne to continue the legacy he created. The GLORY of Nebraska football was in its Rock of Gibraltar consistency. Over a span of 25 seasons Osborne never won fewer than 9 games a season. How would you like a coach whose idea of a disaster was 9-3? After a succession of bowl disappointments, Osborne went after speed across the roster. The end result was the greatest combination of power and speed ever seen in a college team. Keep Alabama, Miami, Georgia, Ohio State or the Trojans of Southern Cal. Name your champ. The Huskers were better. The quiet man from Hastings, Nebraska did all his talking on the football field. A final record of 60-3 over his last five seasons. Three National Championships in the greatest swan song any coach ever had. From 1962 in Devaneys arrival in Lincoln to Osbornes glorious run ending in 1997 the Huskers were unparalleled. A record of 356-69 over 36 seasons! What Devaney and Osborne did will never be seen again. COLLEGE FOOTBALL'S GREATEST DYNASTY.

    Going for 2 in the '84 Orange Bowl is obvious to anyone who understands the most basic concepts of competition. Why this was so debated is beyond me. When you play, you play to win. DUH.

    Tom Osborne should never recruit Lawrence Phillips.

    • @sorney98
      @sorney98 2 года назад +1

      There was no red flags on Phillips during his recruiting. Had there been legal problems pop up during his recruitment sure but fact is Osborne took a chance.
      It didn't workout, and that's it, Osborne did what he could to help Lawrence Phillips.
      But look at the people that he helped non football wise, Terrell Farley who had alcohol problems thanks TO for helping him. Jon Vederal as well many other players.

      @@robjohnson8861 You realize how much you contradict yourself? You're always saying how awful Lincoln is, why would anyone want to play at Nebraska. So if you think Nebraska is such a hard place to succeed why would you criticize Osborne for struggling with a coach who's at FSU with a lot more resources and talent to work with? Besides that Osborne ended up more successful, doing more with less, even winning more NC's than Bowden. Miami during his time was one of the best of all time. No coach had a good record against them. Sorry I have to keep putting in your place, but you make it so easy.

      You said, "why would you criticize Osborne for struggling with a coach who's at FSU with a lot more resources and talent to work with?"
      Here we go again. When Osborne won, he was great. When he lost, those pesky excuses could bail him out. Please, dorfus, support how FSU had a lot more resources and talent that Osborne had. You know good and well you said something that is very hard to refute bec of the lack of readily available stats, but then again, your lip service is hard for you to prove too. Bring it..
      You said, "Miami during his time was one of the best of all time. No coach had a good record against them." What coach had a losing record to so many Cane coaches like Bowden did? He sucked cept when he played Ozzy 6-2.
