Yet idiots complain about how expensive hand-made baits are these days. If they only knew the amount of time, effort and passion that went into these masterpieces... Keep up the great work!
I was watching another channel last night devoted to making scale model tanks and airplanes which, like fishing lures, requires a lot of masking and painting. In this video the guy was using a new masking tape from Tamiya Corp. This masking tape is able to bend and follow curves in a manner that regular masking tape cannot. He was actually able to lay it down flat in one continuous length in a S pattern without having to cut multiple lengths of tape to form the curves. I thought I'd pass this on to you as it might be helpful in lure painting. Nice looking lure and action to it.
Very nice! Thanks for the video. Freehand painting those lines is tough! You make that look easy. Especially when the compressor roars to life. I almost dropped my airbrush last time that happened.
Been watching your videos for almost a year now. Absolutely love your content. Inspired me to go out and try making some lures of my own (unfortunately not very successful yet)
Lovely looking lure. I think with that amount of weighting it would be more suitable for summer fishing with a fast retrieve. I would love to see a similar version of this lure that is suspending or very slow sinking, look great for pike 👍
thank you for your videos! Amazing! you are truly an artist! I have a question, what kind of wood should i use for a sinking wobbler? Should i use a hard/heavy wood like beech or oak? Or simply use softer wood like abachi with tons of lead? Thank you!
Marling Baits your vids are the best, when im not fishing im watching you make amzing baits.. Do you sell them? Id love to buy a couple of them, highly interested. Could i donate?
Great video and lure as always! W questions. 1. What psi are you at when you are doing the fine lines with your airbrush? 2. Where do you get the white netting for the scales? Thanks!
Hola Nate, once again greetings from Peru...tonight I have spent some time watching your last videos... little turtle, mouse, African bee....once again congratulations, and thanks a lot for sharing your work and tips. I really enjoy watching your work. Given that I use these kind of jerked lures for surfcasting fishing (If you remember, I do my own balsa wooden lures called Attila’s and also buy Japanese lures like DUO and Daiwa). Something that I’m always need is to have the possibility to reach as long distances as I can from the sea shore when casting. I was wondering how long can you cast this lure? I ask you this because I want to carve a hard wooden lure like yours too, using a system of fixed weight instead a shifting one, like the ones I’m currently using with my Attilas. Would you please give me some hints? Are you planning to do a shifting weight lure? I know I have asked you about this before, but given that you are asking for new ideas I do again. Thanks and have an excellent Sunday.
Excellent your jobs. I'm a fan of your videos and here in Argentina, we do not have access to your brand. I am fond of creating my own lures based on what I learn from people like you. I know that for obvious reasons you will not publish the templates, but could you give me an idea of the size, width, etc.? very grateful and I follow you as always.
Amazing once again! If I could, I would just buy this bait you just made and never use it. I would just leave it in my collection to enjoy. Hey is there any way any of the baits you make are for sale? Thanks
I love your channel and videos. Thanks for sharing. Have you ever tested how much weight the twisted wire eye-lets can hold when glued in? Many large jerkbaits have the front eyelet and all hooks connected through the lure body with a wire. I wonder how necessary this is. To make a lure so beautiful, would mean it'd be heart breaking to have bust off. Please, please continue posting videos!
Thank you! These are 0.092” thick screw eyes, and it’s common to bend out 3x strong hooks on screw eyes. I’ve never seen them fail even with the 50+ inch muskies over here
From the tests on lure building forums I would say they would hold about 60-120 lbs, the reason for through wireing is if the fish destroys the lure(breaks the wood), the wires would still allow you to land the fish (in both cases the lure would be destroyed). Through wireing only adds extra noticeable strength if you are using a wood like balsa which does not have a lot of grab for the screws to dig into, so they get pulled out easier. The way hook eyes fail is by pulling the wire straight, not a failure of the wood or glue, so they wouldn't (completely)ruin the lure if they failed.
Fire tiger is also one of my favorite colors but when I say fire tiger alot of people look at me like I've gone off the deep end...is this a color that is like not "hip" anymore??
another functional work of art. Great lure man! What is the diving lip materiel you use? I tried some from the hardware store and it was very brittle and I was not able to buff it out. Also what is the mm of the stuff you are using so that I can use that as a reference. Look forward to every video!!!
Thank you! The lip is cut out of a sheet of Lexan Polycarbonate. You’ll want to stay away from the acrylic sheets from the hardware store cuz they just arn’t though enough. The thickness of the Lexan in this video is 3/16 inch.. not sure what that is in mm.
That would explain it. The one that I got was acrylic. I am working on swimbait carving at the moment but soon I want to try another crank bait. Thanks!
I just sub. Keep making new videos. I learn alot and aways wanted to try to make my owe lures one day. I want to learn how to make most of the lures. I want to buy one? How long does the process take? How did you get into this?
Have you considered beveling the edges of the tongue? I personally don't like the look of a big piece of plastic sticking out the front and think it would improve the look of your baits even more
its curious how here in Europe a jerkbait is commonly know as a lipless lure that you jerk with your rod and reel to make it dart in the water and how we know the lure you made in the video as a wobbler.
Yeah I’ve noticed that difference. I grew up calling the long thin baits with a lip jerkbaits. And they’re meant to be jerked in, and dance around on the retrieve. We call the lipless ones Gliders.
We also call the lipless ones gliders. As far as i know the style of lure you made is only called jerkbait in North America we use the same kind of lures here too with identical fishing method we just never called them jerkbaits. Remember the different terminology being very confusing in the beginning when i started looking for information online about lure making years ago. Cool video btw, you should consider doing little bit of narrarating while you make your lures.
You did not talk much in older videos, glad you do now it makes a better connection with us viewers
Yet idiots complain about how expensive hand-made baits are these days. If they only knew the amount of time, effort and passion that went into these masterpieces... Keep up the great work!
I like your videos when you explain what you are doing
It's an evolution...a progression. One of the reasons I love Marling's vids is he strives to improve over time. Production, bait making, everything.
A man building lures and listening to the Joe Rogan podcast. What more does RUclips videos need
And Led Zeppelin.
The detail you put on your lures are amazing I wish my lures looked half as good as yours keep the one days coming
i imagine myself taking a bath everytime i would snag this work of art..
Yep breaking off your line is not an option lol
Thank you so much for posting so many videos recently it is a real treat for me to watch them mouth agog .
Awesome!
I am Egyptian and I follow you and admire your work very much
Awesome job ! Fire Tiger is one of my favorite colors.
Thank you! Me too
How can I like buy your lures
Really enjoy watching you make lures.
Extremely beautiful bait! Great work as always!!!
Thank you!
That lure looks like Shimano made it. Nice job and thanks for sharing.

Awesome thank you! I’ll look into that tape. Sounds useful for sure
You're welcome. I hope it works out for you and is useful.
A lot of work, show your work. Congratulations.
Very nice! Thanks for the video. Freehand painting those lines is tough! You make that look easy. Especially when the compressor roars to life. I almost dropped my airbrush last time that happened.
Thank you! My compressor use to trip the breaker every so often. It’d turn off the lights right in the middle of doing work like that lol
Marling Baits is that a few drops of denatured alcohol you add to the epoxy when you seal it?
Yep that’s what that was.
Nice!!! The Bob Ross of lures.
Been watching your videos for almost a year now. Absolutely love your content. Inspired me to go out and try making some lures of my own (unfortunately not very successful yet)
LOVE TO WATCH YOU MAKE THESE BAITS, I THINK I WOULD LIKE TO TRY MAKING SOME.
You should invest in a scroll saw to cut down on the burning your band saw is doing when making tight saw turns. Love your baits.
Lovely looking lure. I think with that amount of weighting it would be more suitable for summer fishing with a fast retrieve. I would love to see a similar version of this lure that is suspending or very slow sinking, look great for pike 👍
A Joe Rogan fan lol I too make Lures while listening to that podcast. Excellent work as always
Thank you!
Is there a purpose a thick bill does for a bait opposed to a regular bill? The way you make your bill's gives an awesome look to your baits
Have you thought to add buckshot or splitshots to the belly of any of your baits? That rattle is a great attractor to fish. Great channel 👍🏻
It is one of a kind, rare and in my collecting mind,,, Way To Good To Use!
Great show, You Beauty MB.
Great job, great shop work, keep um coming!
I really like this pattern!
Awesome man, looks really good.
Ur just way to good at free handing. I cant draw or cut a straight line to safe my life!!
Powerfull tools, mad skills and a ton of talent!!
This looks like an awesome trolling lure, btw!
Hello. I have a question. Could you tell me what's in that bucket by rinsing the airbrush? Maybe you can tell us what and how to make it efficient?
excellent work. question, what brand of air gun and how fine of a needle are you using? thanks.
Wow looks great
Thank you!
thank you for your videos! Amazing! you are truly an artist! I have a question, what kind of wood should i use for a sinking wobbler? Should i use a hard/heavy wood like beech or oak? Or simply use softer wood like abachi with tons of lead? Thank you!
Thank you! With crankbaits you want to keep the bouancy of the body high. That always helps with action. I’d say add more lead.
Thanks for the video ) best wishes men !
Sweet! Don't know if I'd want to run into the fish that strikes this lure! Probably the only thing around me that would go after it would be a gator.
Thanks! I suppose Muskies are the closest thing to gators in Iowa lol.
Marling Baits your vids are the best, when im not fishing im watching you make amzing baits.. Do you sell them? Id love to buy a couple of them, highly interested. Could i donate?
Use the Rapalaknot to make it move much better
Awesome job
Trens de Pesca - Brasil - Parabéns pelo trabalho!
Talento puro parabéns!
Awesome lure.
Thank you!
A thing of beauty
Can you tell the causes why the lure won't wobble?
Is it because of lip's size/angle or weight position?
Great video and lure as always! W questions. 1. What psi are you at when you are doing the fine lines with your airbrush? 2. Where do you get the white netting for the scales? Thanks!
Thank you! I have the psi at 45 all the time now, and the white netting if from hobby lobby I think.. in the fabric area.

What is the name of the yellow liquid that is flooded with wood before painting?
Pretty good.
What type of wood is this and what did you use to seal it? Great lures as always!
Thank you! This is Poplar wood, and I use polyurethane to seal the wood before painting.

You are a champion
I use a dremel with a little wire wheel now
For cleaning off the line ties.
Amazing once again! If I could, I would just buy this bait you just made and never use it. I would just leave it in my collection to enjoy. Hey is there any way any of the baits you make are for sale? Thanks
Your bait making skill is awesome. I’m trying to make my own lure at the moment too.. I’m making a jointed wake bait. What do you use for the gloss?
Very nice
Absolutly genious!
Thank you!
Buenos días ; muy buen video , eres un campeón!! Aprende uno mucho de ti , un saludo muy grande, sigue haciendo vídeo maestro ..
And the cabochons are a great idea thanks for letting me know previously .

Beautiful
perfect for musky
JRE! #Powerful
What kind of wood are you using. balsa, bass wood?
another functional work of art. Great lure man!
What is the diving lip materiel you use? I tried some from the hardware store and it was very brittle and I was not able to buff it out. Also what is the mm of the stuff you are using so that I can use that as a reference.

How long does a bigger crank take you to finish? Excellent work! #newfan
Heard you listening to owen benjamin a few vids ago.. I like you more and more
excelente trabalho !
Ficou perfeita, show
Have you considered beveling the edges of the tongue? I personally don't like the look of a big piece of plastic sticking out the front and think it would improve the look of your baits even more
You make me start macking bats
Love your videos, you truly are an artist. What do you use for your eyes? Also, what gun are you shooting with?

Confusing for sure. Thanks Mikko, might talk in the videos someday. I’ve always been the quite one lol
PROFI! 🤩
Hello which is the type of used wood
