you know what's the amazing part? this scene was not even in the manga. anime writers themselves wrote it
The brain VS The heart. The Longest battle. The war with the most losses. Tears become meteors. Emotions become useless, Then we crave numbness. But In the end each and every single one of us has to. Feel everything
Shikamaru’s character was well written, possessing a strong sense of duty while having a great understanding of humanity. He was the most mature of his generation, so he understandably felt the need to stay strong, but his deep emotional depth was illustrated by the grief he felt over Asuma’s death.
Shikamaru & Shikaku playing shogi is one one the best & one of my favorite scenes in Naruto. Excellent video as always
Shikamaru is my favorite character. His ability to keep calm, stay rational, and be able to lead under pressure always inspired me. He also made mistakes. Which made him all the more relatable. I appreciate Shikamaru. And the way that his character developed.
After rewatching this scene, I realized Shikaku’s final line,” I’ll pick up the pieces.” isn’t just about the shogi board and pieces knocked over. He’s talking about his duty as a father to not only pick up his son during hardships but to also rebuild and teach his son to handle the losses of loved ones.
I know this might sound weird but i like your voice
Shikamaru is one of the better written characters in Naruto
Honestly when I watched this episode I had to stop at the end and I wrote an entire script about how beautiful and impactful it was. You covered a kit of the same things i recognized. Guess that's one video essay I don't have to make now, good job
'Im proud to be your father, you're smart and talented..no father wants to see his sons funeral' Fuck that hit me

One of my favorite scenes in naruto is shikaku saying "I'll pick up the pieces"
And then his father dies later on...Poor Shikamaru. One of the best-written and underrated characters in the show, it’s a damn shame. Naruto gets a lot of shit but at its apex it has a lot of amazing character writing:
I need more of this break down all Naruto characters
"Feel everything, always" Sage's Rain
Man... Shikamaru is such a dope character. This vid definitely moves him up in my fav character list.
I would LOVE a video on Gaara. His traumas were similar to my own as a child/teenager. I loved that character for that. He was much more than a jinchuriki. He was an abused and neglected child/person. The pain he felt was so raw.
What makes the shogi scene so powerful was that each thing Shikaku told Shikamaru had a double meaning between the game and his emotions. It was like the shogi game itself was an unspoken conversation and such an intimate conversation was conveyed by a strong father son relationship
The Hidan and Kakuzu arc was probably my favorite storyline, since it gave characters like Shikamaru some good development. To me, this was when the story hit its peak.
