I’m special education tutor. The biggest mistake most ppl do is assume that because a kid or young autistic person is non verbal that they cannot understand or think. They can be taught and they can learn a lot of skills. It is not easy but nothing is easy in life.

My son is 4 and is nonverbal with ASD. It is the most challenging thing I have ever faced in my life. But, I love my son more than life itself. I don’t always know what to do, which is hard for me. But, I do know that I am doing right by showing him affection and as much love as I can give him. He needs that and so do I. One thing that I have learned is that it costs absolutely nothing to show love to your child, but it is worth more than anything in the whole world. That’s why I thank God for the gift of love. It’s the most priceless thing in existence. We need to cherish it more but also be more liberal with it. Love never runs out as long as you still value it.

Even with this story I still can't help but feel a sadness..my son is 4, and is also non verbal. I'm more sad that my son may not have the same life I had growing up because of this. I get so frustrated because I keep thinking that it's not fair for him..I wish that I could take his challenges for him. I would cry to myself, and ask why did I have to have a child like this, but then a wise man told me that my child chose me. He chose the perfect parent that would love him, and have the patience, and caring heart that could take on such a responsibility. Those words alone gave me a peace of mind. Now that I know that my special little boy chose me I am not as down about it all. I stumble, but I don't fall. To my fellow parents going through the same thing we are all in this together.

@@giselleali1979 I have autism and I got mine by the regressive form when I was around 18 months old. I watched videos of myself before the regression started. I was growing up normal and Neurotypical before then. Then at 18 months old, I clearly lost my speech and my fondly social skills I had when I was a toddler. I stopped looking and reacting to people talking to me and I started behaving very bizarre and getting strange, autistic sensory issues. So, I too, was severely autistic and non-verbal when I was 3. I didn't speak again until I was 5. Now, I'm exceptionally, fully verbal, have an IQ of 130, and go to college, although it takes a little longer than usual to graduate with my stress sensitivity, though I did graduate from a mainstream private high school on time, and more importantly, as a Valedictorian. If I was a nonverbal toddler with autism in the late 90s and I am where I am now, then there is still hope for your daughter as it is for this kid. Even if she's not lucky to get adequate speech, like I did, she could use alternate forms of communication, like AAC, especially more in this age of touchscreen smart-tech and tablets.

Unfortunately, the mother of my children left our family for another man who can supply her with plenty of money. She left our family I think she is ashamed of the fact that 2 of our beautiful angels are autistic. I can only wish there was support or a special system for special children like my poor autistic boys. Is there a group of parents that I can reach out to for teachings and support in raising my autistic boys? watching this video brings tears to my eyes as a solo father caring for my children. I must say I think that people who have non verbal autism are the most deeply intelligent and beautifully gifted people you’ll meet ever despite their hardship with trying to express themselves. I do hope that society are giving these beautiful people with these forms of autism, the credit they need, like i said thankfully I’m very verbal but, I’m still very severely autistic so i understand in a lot of ways but still I can never really truly know the emotional pain of not being able to express your feelings to somebody if can’t verbalise your words, but thankfully we have the magic of iPads and technology so non verbal people can show their true shining intelligence special personalities that are now finally thank GOODNESS being noticed properly by people after decades of misunderstanding… GOD BLESS 👍🏻😇✝

I used to be a lot more autistic than I am now. So much so, that I’d curl up and rock in the corner with my stuffed animal when I was 15.
In present Day, nobody would ever guess that I’m autistic, or ever had autism. Although introverted, I appear to be very outwardly social. I’m one of the extremely lucky ones.
I’ve never attended an art class, but I can draw anything, which benefits my writing career a lot. I’m working on multiple unpublished manuscripts of different genres, such as sci-fi, fantasy, horror, comedy and a single non-fiction book.
It’s a miracle that I’ve come this far. What’s even better, is that I would’ve never gotten this far if it weren’t for my aid in High School. Everyone loved that guy, and I’m super thankful to him!

Looking through the comment section, I'm becoming more and more upset about how people perceive autistic people. The most important thing is to make sure you and your child live your best life, being as happy as possible, whatever that may look like. Not being able to talk doesn't mean not communicating, there are loads of way to communicate!
And it's true that a lot of autistics go on to need support in adulthood, but what's the problem with that? The support exists for a reason, and as long as the autistic is able to be happy and be properly supported in a world not made for them; that's what matters. It's certainly not the end of the world, you just have to adjust the way you do things until things are comfortable for everyone involved.

CPS took away our autistic child and caused her to suffer from failure to thrive. She is completely non-verbal and has recently turned 18 and has aged out of CPS. But we still can't get our child back because the foster home CPS put her in has hired a lawyer to get legal guardianship. We don't have any money left. We paid thousands of dollars on lawyer fees to try to get our daughter back from CPS. The foster mom has lied every time we've been to court; my husband and I suspect our child is abused. She cannot talk she has no way to tell anyone. Because we don't know where the foster family lives and without having legal guardianship, we cannot even visit our child, who has no way to understand why. I've started a gofundme so we can afford a lawyer to "help return our autistic daughter to us".

That distracts the individual from learning to read lip movements, putting together to understand speech. They are definitely aware being loved and accepted!:) They also know what they want and what they are uncomfortable with. They just communicate differently:) I have Asperger’s which the mild end of the spectrum. So it can appear in reading comprehension challenges

And then there are the testimonials of praying believers whose children were miraculously, amazingly healed by the power of God. That intrigues some parents and they investigate it, while other parents become angry and reject the very idea.

Try Spelling 2 Communicate! Known as S2C
Non-speaking individuals know more than they are given credit for; introduce them to this method of communication and see what happens! This is NOT Facilitated Learning; non-speakers move their arm freely. As a communication partner, the only task is holding a letter board or keyboard in place for the speller. Seeing is believing!

This video gives a very wron impression of autism. Why is the boy almost exclusively shown lying down, when it's very clear he can walk? Why is he only filmed in situations where someone brings something to him or makes his bed etc.? Why is he eating out of plastic bowls with his hands and has a drinking-bottle for toddlers?
This video implies autistic people are babies and never grow up and everything needs to be done for them. Even for non-verbal autistic people that's not the case! Honestly, my first thought was: is this boy even autistic or does he have another disability, because this video is made in a way that makes him look more disabled than he probably is. And because autistic people lack social awareness, he probably doesn't understand the strategies behind this.
Also: when she mentioned ABA I was out. This organization is horrible and abusive.

This video implies nothing except this one persons situation. Stop pretending severe autism doesn’t exist. It’s a 4 min glimpse into someone’s life.
