what does a 100% tax on chinese EVs in the US say about the U.S. automanufacturers? They are unable to compete and need the government to make a closed market? How will they compete globally if they can't handle the heat?

China saved Tesla in 2019 and then again just recently allowing Tesla to partner with Baidu who has had 4 million paid robotaxis rides up to Q3 of 2023
Tesla wasn’t profitable until they entered China got that production fixed and got that Chinese domestic market

HiPhi's market is aimed at the ultra rich. That is a itsy bitsy market - a niche within a niche. And the ultra rich in the US and Europe would rather be dead than get caught riding a cheezy Chinese car named hi-five.

Why can’t we all just get along? All these failing EV companies are negating what little environmental potential their cars could have brought to the market. I would love to see more cooperation between all continents instead of this wild west mentality where one group just enjoys watching the other group crash and burn. Instead of counting their billions, they should invest into our common future. What’s so difficult to understand?

I want to say something controversial. I don't want Chinese EVs to fail. But I don't want them in USA "for now" because the stupid american automakers are doomed by short term quarterly results and stock games and are not dying in a controlled demolition. Let's agree to a fee-bate (rocky mountain institute) transition to tiered/gradual tax AI and chinese EV tax to pay for unemployed US auto workers and slowly allow chinese EVs into the US market as GM and ford collapse shrivel and consolidate their remaining assets into a new company called "American Motors" that licences tesla tech onto different skins.
