Where this doesn't work is that the AI typhoons fire multiple missiles on the same targets. Human pilots would have been far more clever and would not have expended all their missiles against the northern group. 50% of the AI typhoon missiles were wasted.

There's only so much you can do with the AI, you end up having to give them half loadouts, then spawning in other aircraft later with the other half of the loadout to try and pace out their weapon output. It gets messy and silly.

Loved the video cap, have you considered "competitive" simulation battles, where you pick a battle (such as Chinese invasion of Taiwan, Nato intervention in Ukraine etc.) where both side's assets are set up and controlled by a different human, without the other side knowing what to expect. Both the viewers and you would know the full story, but human participants would only know the number of enemy assets, not their positioning or setup, and would be able to make more strategic decisions.

@@grimreapers Can you maybe get the two commanders to write the orders for their side's AI, then build the mission based off that? Orders on the level of 'this flight does CAP in this zone, this flight anti-ship in this area, this flight go bomb that base'. Give each commander a briefing packet with their asset list and the intel they have about what's going on, then they write what they want to happen. Then when the mission runs the two sets of orders play against each other and we see what happens.

I was in the Falklands on deployment with the RAF in 1987 when Carlos Menem came into power threatening the invasion again , lots of rhetoric from the recently elected fellow & lots of time for us on stand to & exercises, but no sign of any hostilities in the 127 days I spent on the islands. Today they're too busy sinking Chinese long line fishing vessels fishing illegally in their territorial waters to worry about us in reality , & with their economy in disarray the average Agentinian just wants a stable life & money in their pocket it's just another politician who promises them the most , but never delivers sadly.

also, US and Brazil would never let this happen again. US because it's terrible and argentina have tipped a lot to china's control. going to war against a NATO nation would just full on confirm that. and brazil because it's right on our asses (again), just like the guyana thing. and also would disrupt where 95% of our exports/imports travel on (just around there). prices would jump up, it would be terrible.

Interesting, but surely the 12 Typhoons would have been 10 with 2 in defence. I can't see that all the assets would have been deployed in such a cowboy fashion, leaving the Island undefended. The EWS would have calculated the number of F16's and seen that it wasn't the entire fleet, so any Commander would have approached it slightly differently. I guess this is the challenge of using Sim's.

If it's one thing I have learned about AI is they could care less about the restrictions you place on them. Restrict AB...full AB the whole flight. Restrict tank jettison...they drop them at first contact. And so on and so on. If you just leave them be, sometimes they will actually do the right thing! lol And some of their tactics are mind numbing. When a four ship CAP detects the enemy, one dives for the deck, one turns 90° right, one goes straight up, the last one actually does what the're supposed to do. The one on the deck then goes full AB and tries to get back to altitude and by the time they get back, they're so low on fuel they just quit and divert to the nearest neutral/friendly airfield. Not enough fuel to make it back to the carrier. Frustrating AF. To be honest, I would like to see major AI improvements over any new modules or improvements to existing modules. Yes, datalinks are nice, but when your wingman does all that goofy crap, not much sense in a good datalink is there? Sorry, I should be talking about how cool this video is, not venting. But when Cap mentioned it at the beginning, it just brewed in my head till I couldn't stand it any longer!

So if we're doing Falklands simulations I have a fun (if terribly unrealistic) wargames for you.
The year is 1982, Argentina has launched their invasion of the Falklands as in real life (or as close as DCS can simulate it) However, a Soviet task force just happens to be near by and intercept the radio traffic from the invasion. For some reason (maybe he just wants Britain to owe him one or just wants to show off his fleet) Leonid Brezhnev orders the task force to intervene.
If the Soviets win, re-run the simulation adding in other South American nations for extra fun. Just to see how much firepower it takes for South America to beat the USSR.

Actually the Soviet Union was more than happy for the RN to head to the South Atlantic and get its ships beaten up and potentially loose whilst fighting a far right military government and ally of the US (which is why they abstained in the UN). Yep, a question of timing before i) the worst of the bad weather and ii) Argentina could bolster their defences. Both on FI and updating their air defences, say by buying more Exocets.
British intelligence were leading them on a merry dance on that score but sooner or later they were going to get something.
Also, I did wonder when the nuclear sub fleet would simply have their RoE changed to allow them to sink anything the Argentine Navy had.
Then there's the role of Special Forces directly attacking critical infrastructure in Argentina itself, and either extracting to Chile or by sub. We know plans were made but not implemented.

Back in the actual Falklands War, a UK sub managed to sink the General Belgrano cruiser; apocryphal story that Argentina's only carrier was approaching from a different direction, and the sub commander was asking permission to sink that too, but the UK government said no. The UK also never tried to attack the Argentine mainland assets or other Argentine ships that declined to leave port after Belgrano was destroyed. They were trying to find a balance between fighting back and over-escalating things. (Cold War was still going on, and despite the weird fact this war was between two hardline right wing regimes, the UK did not want to seem excessively bloodthirsty, which (in that Cold War climate) might agitate other nations into taking Argentina's side against "British imperialism". Not that Argentina's government was deserving of sympathy. Argentina's military regime took a very bloody gamble to try and quell domestic criticism with a "quick win", and instead by losing, it doomed them.

The night before the Belgrano was sunk - had the Argentinians had more than 4 knots of wind they would have attacked HMS Hermes which they had located - an almost unheard of (at the time of the year) lack of wind saved the British from humiliation. Still, it's a reminder that peacetime penny-pinching costs you wars - the reason why the Argentinians needed the wind of god is because the boilers onboard their carrier were poorly maintained and couldn't make make enough steam for more than 12 knots, meaning fully armed A-4s couldn't take off without significant wind assistance.

In other words, the Argentinan navy was able to complete their alleged pinser movement and engage the Royal Navy task force.
I assume the Argentinan Air Force's remaining assets will also take part.

If Argentina tried to retake the Falklands they would be defeated in no time. There is five times the amount of military personnel on the islands than there was in 82 before the invasion, Also the Argentine mainland would be hit by volleys of tomahawk cruise missiles launched by Astute class submarines, taking out the southern airfields within range of the Falklands. There token airforce would not be able to operate therfore. Even if it did get off the ground, it would be swiftly taken out by the typhoons.

This was an excellent concept for the TOT attack from two directions in my opinion!! I have to say though, I know you had to keep human pilots in the northern group, but I think if there were enough manpower for maybe four or six human pilots in that southern group that flanked the Typhoons from the south, that would have been even more favorable. I agree with the assessment of both Cap and Matrix though, the win doesn't even really make a difference in the real world though. If Argentina could defeat a squadron of Typhoons in the real world, it will 100% be a Pyrrhic victory, and I personally don't even think they could really do it. That being said, it's a moot point, because when HMS Queen Elizabeth shows up with her F-35's and an armada packed to the brim with pissed off Royal Marines... to quote the late great Bill Paxton as Hudson from the film Aliens, "Game over man, Game over.". Meteor is in use with the RAF on all Typhoon squadrons and will be implemented onto F-35B with Block 4 circa 2028 until which point, they will use the AIM-120D-3.

@@curtiswhyte3297 I don't think we bought AIM-120D, as we were expecting to have the short fin (adapted for F-35) version of Meteor in service by now (which it isn't) - so we have existing stock block B and C AMRAAMs on "our" F-35s giving them no better air to air capability than the Sea Harrier back in 2010 - The block D refresh is going to cost billions and is the end of the road for F-35 upgrades until they are completely refitted with modern computer systems. F-35 is an IT antique under the covers. Current tranche Typhoon is miles ahead as the systems have been refreshed constantly - unlike the troublesome F-35 which had to be frozen to iron out the thousands of bugs - on top of this mess due to all this penny-pinching to fund the useless F-35Bs - our Typhoons have been allowed to fall behind too.
