I think Colin failed to see the same benefit in the world now as his 1775 line. The people in what becomes The States got the benefit of saying "King George might not like that..." to prevent an attack... well, NATO is that; deep-tie allyship is that for Japan, Korea, and even (particularly) Taiwan.
