Soyuz holds 3 people. And Russia had those seats filled with cosmonauts.
Spacex is working on adding seats.
There’s only a few docking ports so Spacex can’t just show up, Starliner needs to be gone. But, emergency egress for the entire crew must be maintained at all times.
It’s complicated logistics.
Asked China?? You know what the US and the West think of China-made products.....anyway pride and ego is at stake here, so don't bet on them to ask China for help! They would rather perish than get China assistance. Sad but true.

That and the stranded astronauts have spacesuits that are tailored to fit the star liner and do not conform to spaceX.
So new suits need to be sent for them to catch a ride with spaceX.

The astronauts are not making the decisions on the engendering and design of a space vehicle.
It’s pretty specialized and they don’t have the knowledge for all aspects of a very complex system.
This disaster is to be blamed on nasa /engineers. To blame the astronauts would be like blaming a driver if their car was built with faulty parts. They “drive” “fly?” Idk lol but they aren’t designing it.

What do thrusters have to do with oxygen supply?
It acts as a fuel to the thrusters. It compresses the solid hydrogen into a small inlet while lit which needs oxygen for propulsion. Fire need oxygen to lit up gasoline or hydrogen just like jet engines.

International treaty establishes that vehicles launched into space, or landed on another body, (( remain the property of the originating country )) 😂
