My dad had a Charger as a rental a week ago and was completely in love with it. He kept talking about all of the features it had; however, he only had the SXT trim level with cloth seats.
i love the rental chargers. if youre lucky, theyll have R/T chargers with the V8... i would buy one buy i already have too many cars and not enough time to drive them all
The first time I saw one of Alex's videos it was so in-depth i just assumed he was a dealer rep or worked for the manufacturer of the car he was reviewing. After watching more videos I realize now he's just that good at what he does. Excellent reviews.
2024: We rented a 2022 Charger GT with a V-6, and we were amazed at how nicely it rode. It was very quiet and had excellent road manners. The ZF 8-speed had excellent torque and acceleration when we needed some extra oomph for passing or pulling away at lights. My wife is even talking now about getting a Challenger because she prefers two-door coupes, but she would probably go for a Charger.
Victor Maitland Does it sound good stock? Im plan on buying a 2015 or 2016 R/T. Whats the major difference in the R/T road and track? I heard what he said in the video i was just seeing since you own one.
AMAZING REVIEW AS ALWAYS ALEX! And I was so LUCKY to have had 2 R.T. Reviews today one from you and one from Brian Cooley on CNET. He loved the Charger as well. It's come a long way for sure.
I recently found your videos and I love your reviews. I'm hoping with a better job I'll be able to move up from my beater car that I helped fix up to something new and your reviews definitely help so much especially for me not being a big car guy. you simplify every detail, but it's clear you know your stuff!
FINALLY Alex!!!!! I was dying to see what you thought about this new Charger. Honestly I can go on for days about how impressive this thing is. But the Car sells itself. I'm getting that exact trim, RT Road&Track for Less than I got my RT Max ! Saving money at the door, and it's more efficient. Dodge Scored a Home run on this bad boy.
I'm not a fan of the Hellcat just because as far as every car magazine out there is concerned, it might as well be the only version of the Charger/Challenger available. But I'm glad it exists, because I got to hear Alex say "If you're after batshit crazy..." in complete deadpan.
Thanks, Alex. Excellent, informative review, especially your comparison section! Thanks for commenting on the quietness of the vehicle, although I think I agree with you...I'd either go for the 392 or I'd get the Chrysler 300 (I like the exterior of the 300S but the interior of the Platinum). Down to a few months before I get to make a decision. Anyway, been watching your reviews along with many others for a year or more, now, and I think you are the best out there. Thanks again!
I believe the difference in 0-60 times is more like .3 seconds, not 1.0 seconds. car and driver had the '11 or '12 r/t at I believe 5.3 or 5.4 seconds, and the '15 at 5 seconds flat.
Your wrong about the scat pack buddy. You get improved suspension, better brakes, active exhaust, and looks of the hellcat. I think it's still a super value.
+larkyleroy it's not a about being cheap it's more about gas mileage thing, but I've heard that dodge make crap v6 engines, their Forte is v8 hemi is that right?
Oh dude you nailed it!! Another great review Alex. You gave me info I was looking for. MPG of the hemi in MDS mode on the hwy!! And the speed it operates in. Thank you good sir. I almost spit my coffee out when you said BS Crazy😂😂😂 I love your 392 reasoning👍👍👍
there is a difference in ground clearance between rt and scat ,392..does the rt ride smoother than the 392...less chance to scrape front or bottom out suspension on a pot hole
+Alex on Autos the hood and front end are completely different on the Scat Pack and SRT versus the other lower models. Also the SRT has the performance pages to customize suspension, handling, RPM, etc. No mention of the fun paddle shifters? Let's see a SRT review!
There’s a fully loaded 2015 Dodge Charger rt 5.7 HEMI with red leather interior and sunroof all bells and whistles for 14,800 with 92k miles, is that a good deal?
Whats the biggest difference in a 2016 Dodge Charger R/T compared to the Dodge Charger R/T Road and Track? I know the seats come red and the R/T badges are red. Plus the SuperTrack button. Any other things? Im about to buy a Charger so any info is appreciated
Finally, the review with my lovely Charger, you are so funny with the last your joke. That is the true, thinking the same thing, just buy 392 because it is economical version of the Charger XD
Alex, I noticed your R/T RT had the optional forged wheels. I am considering buying an R/T RT. How much of a difference IYHO do you think this made on handling and acceleration compared to the stock (heavier) wheels?
Alex, I recently purchased the rt 5.7 version based on your review. I was thinking about having it lowered for better handling. Do you think this is a good idea? If so, can you recommend any websites for me to research on who can do the work? I live in the Maryland area near DC. Thanks.
+Kareem Carter Get the Eibach Pro System, not just the springs, yes it helps and looks better. The Scat Pack and SRT-4 are 1/2 inch lower than the regular RT.
Great stuff, Alex. I've got a question about this car that I think you'd have a good handle on. Probably late next year I'm looking to buy either the Scat Charger or Scat Challenger. I honestly can't decide. I'd like a manual, which forces me into the Challenger, but something tells me the 392 is just too much engine to be trying to control with a manual, and the 8 speed would be better. You've lived with both. Based on just the transmission, which would you pick? I've got a couple of kids to haul, but both cars are plenty large, both cost about the same, perform about the same. For my use, both are equally practical. What to do? Thoughts?
Go for the Automatic. The auto is FASTER okay, its more efficient, and it's easier to live with ESP if you live in or Near a City where you will do lots of shuffling around with the gears. The Stick is for control freaks who want to do everything. I have nothing against Sticks BUT with this type of car, I want to let the car do the work and just sit back and enjoy kicking an arm back and giving that 6.4L a good Punch at a random stop light for NO reason. Then is when you can really just appreciate the power, and efficiency this thing brings to the table. Plus the Auto is Faster, Its 8speeds vs 7. And that 485hp is on TAP. Go for the automatic. But if you just MUST be a gear head the stick is just as good, just not as practical and convenient.
Omnis Not at All!!!! Quick Lightning Shifts, it's tuned to the Engine VERY well. The Gear ratios are PERFECT. And it's got some of the Best fuel economy running for a performance sedan. Just experiencing the works of that 8speed is enough for me to buy it. Get it just because of that 8speed. Lol it's just that good. I'd prefer this paring over the ones in the AUDI and BMWs.
omarrianowilson9 Alright fellas, let's try to work this out with me. For me, the reason the LX/LC cars are cool is because they are so old school. I don't just mean in the gimmicky retro styling and hemi badges, I mean that because I'm 45, cars are SUPPOSED to have a V8 in the front and stuff I can identify under the hood. There is very little substantive difference between these cars and the cars of 50 years ago that I like. Unibody, driveshaft, real trunk, etc. So for me the appeal is the continuity from the past. That said, the Challenger gets the nod because it's a 2 door (something VERY few cars are these days) and because it's a manual. Talk about old school. 20 years from now, the desirable cars will be the rarer cars, and they won't be making big inch V8s for much longer, so a stick scat Challenger will be a real keeper. But because the freakin' thing has 485 horses, and I plan to drag race it at some point, the auto really is a better choice. I've owned some fast-ish cars, and plenty of stick cars, but trying to control 485 horses with a stick seems like it's asking a lot. If you watch the wonderful recent Regular Cars Review on the Grand National, he makes a good pitch for the auto because, as Omar says, you just stab it and go. More fun than rowing. At any rate, I can't decide. I frankly prefer the front grille of last year's Charger, but I would want the 8sp over the 5sp. I'm struggling. The Charger has another edge over the Challenger in that people think you are a cop and they get out of your way, and it's got a longer wheelbase so it rides better. I don't give a crap about handling/cornering - not my bag. Thoughts?
Great review as always Alex and I was particularly looking forward to seeing this one. You have become my first source of information when I am researching a vehicle. I have been considering getting a SRT 392 for a little while. Couple of questions: you haven't commented about the adaptive cruise control and pre-collision systems. How well do they work? Is the pre-collision able to bring the vehicle to a full stop and if so from what maximum road speed? Thanks.
Alex At the 1:46 mark, did you mean to say "Challenger and not Charger"?. Great review otherwise. An impressive car for its price points in my opinion. From a family hauler to a tire shredding street racer, all in the same package.
Hey Alex. Great review as always. I just picked up a 2015 Chrysler 300S AWD and your review is one of the reviews that helped a great deal in my decision making. Quick question. I live in Minnesota and I am looking for a car for my wife who doesn't have a lot of experience driving in the snow. But her commute to work mostly includes driving on the highway and a little bit of city. Which one provides better handling in the snow and more safety? AWD + All season tires or FWD with winter tires? Below a certain price point there are very few AWD Sedans. Ford Fusion is one of the cars I am interested in. But my wife seems to love the Mazda 3 and 6 and if you say FWD with winter tires is considerably better, our options open up big time (of course AWD with Winter tires would be the best). I just want her to be safe and comfortable with driving in snow. So, can you please help me decide between Ford Fusion AWD with all season tires or Mazda 3/6 with Winter tires for driving in snow???
nikhilnagaraj For the maximum in safety it's "anything" with winter tires. A RWD car with winter tires or a FWD car with winter tires will out handle and stop shorter than a car with all-season tires. In general FWD is more predictable than RWD, but the tires are the big thing.
What engine would you choose for a charger that would be a daily driver mostly in city/town driving? I ask because other reviews say with so much HP, from a stop, it is very easy to spin the tires. You have the best reviews, keep it up.
Thanks for the larger shoe shout-out. Man, that's a really disappointing foot well. How do they expect people with wide shoes to not clunk into the brake pedal constantly?
Alex on Autos For a daily driver, would your prefer the 2015 Road and Track RT or the2015 Regular RT with the 2.65 gear ratio? I am curious since both versions offer cylinder deactivation mode with the 8 speed.
Chris Johnson I'd probably get the Road and Track rear axle ratio, the cylinder deactivation system improves fuel economy even with the alternate ratio.
Maybe I'm reading or hearing this wrong but the 2015 does not cut a full second from 0-60 because of the 8 speed. Maybe if your comparing the Scat Pack Rt to a regular Rt then sure. But its the engine not the tranny. You might gain 2 tenths over the 2014 using the 5.7l as a comparison.
CHIP OFFTHEOLDBLOCK I'm simply going off our own tests. We tested a 2014 model with the 6.4L V8 and the 5-Speed automatic and a 2015 model with the 6.4L V8 and the 8-speed and the performance difference was eye opening. 1st gear is much lower in the 8HP and the spacing between gears 1 and 3 is ideal for 0-60 runs.
It's the added option groups that make the car expensive. For example the sunroof package alone is $1395. Plus another four to five option groups that range from $500-$1400. So all those can add an extra $5000 to the base price of the car.
+cpthemonstergamer Expensive compared to what? Robert is right the option packages increase the price. The base price is just over $32K. But I highly recommend getting the Road & Track package that's featured here, especially if you more performance oriented because you get the better suspension and power pages which add's launch control which is handy for obvious reasons. The base RT with Road & Track package is $34K and there's currently $2K in rebates if you bring your own financing with the lowest APR. Also these cars have a fair amount of margin in them, you should be able to pay under $30K for RT with a few options + rebates and you should be able to get the Road & Track option plus a few other things of the normal MSRP ($34K).
I actually agree here. Why are they so expensive? American cars (esp Dodge) are known to have poor reliability and overall cheap materials. Do they think they can trick the consumer into overpaying for a v8 engine that will cause all kind of headache down the road?
I had a 2012 Charger for almost four years very reliable and the materials were not cheap. Just bought a 2015 Charger and it's even better. So I have to disagree.
I love your reviews, and this is a great car. But I don’t know where you’re getting your 0-60 times for the SHO. Those run low 5’s and faster all day every day.
Matt Lady This came up in the preview video. This car has average to above average reliability. The V6 is totally proven (I own one in a Promaster, zero issues). All the Hemis except the Hellcat have been in production for years with no major problems. The 8 speed auto is a ZF unit found in a slew of cars. Where are you getting this opinion from?
Matt Lady I looked into that. Unless I subscribe to CR, I don't get the full details. But they gave previous Chargers a 3/5 meaning average. I just can't see where this would have some fatal flaw that makes it a lemon. The chassis has basically been in production for over 10 years, the engines I'm interested in are just low tech lumps. Compared to anything German or sporty japanese, I would think the Charger would be durable and reliable.
***** You should also take a look at JD Power. Their initial quality ratings are low for the Charger too. And I didn't say the car was a lemon, just that they generally suffer from reliability issues.
***** there's a lot more involved in a car. just think about the electronics in cars these days. just one substandard part used because the automaker wanted to save 10 cents from one vendor over another can lead to your head banging against the wall. just look at vw.
When doing comparisons, you need to stop pointing at the car you are standing to, when you are referring to a car that is not pictured. IE at 23min51s. It confuses the crap out of your viewers and you do it on every video. Otherwise great videos

Alex on Autos Ok. Got it. Thanks Alex.
What engine would you choose for a charger that would be a daily driver mostly in city/town driving? I ask because other reviews say with so much HP, from a stop, it is very easy to spin the tires. You have the best reviews, keep it up.
I would go with a R/T the v6 just doesn't have enough power.
Thanks for the larger shoe shout-out. Man, that's a really disappointing foot well. How do they expect people with wide shoes to not clunk into the brake pedal constantly?
What about the Chevrolet Impala?
1:45 did you said challenger?
isn't the AWD model a RWD vehicle unless the extra traction is needed?
Not exactly. It will send power to the front without wheel slip
Alex on Autos Thanks, Alex, thats great to know since MDS works with both RT trims.
Alex on Autos I am considering this car vs. a kia cadenza. thoughts?
I love R/T Road 💋
Are you sure the RT compete with the Chevy SS 💭
he called it a challenger XD
He said challenger @ 1:47
I love my 2016 Dodge Charger. Will buy again.
Really no reving !? :/
Exactly
I just wish they didn't make it look like a dart upfront :(
I think that changed for 2017 RT Chargers's.
The Charger is a beast sedan but why the heck are Chrysler/Dodge cars so expensive?
ParticlePhysXAnomaly maybe the older dodge cars they make the best American products now
Now I can afford responsibly
Another thing about the Altima is the horrible steering.
I hate Electric Steering! I wonder why the Auto Makers decided to do it.
You can actually get a Charger V8 and AWD... It's just not very legal since its for police cars only
You're an idiot
+Gage Davis What makes me an idiot?
+Bjorn Ironsides after a couple of years when they replace them. Only law enforcement can buy them new.
+Simplex SM it's COMPLETELY legal.
+Bjorn Ironsides the V8 and AWD?
I love your reviews, and this is a great car. But I don’t know where you’re getting your 0-60 times for the SHO. Those run low 5’s and faster all day every day.
So the most bang for your buck by a country mile.
Dude, why you in the trunk? lol
up for down .. and down for up
Too bad reliability on those cars is crap. Would love to own one if I knew they'd spend more time on the road than in the shop.
Consumer Reports has given the Charger consistently poor reliability ratings. They predicted the 2015 as "Far Below Average" too, unfortunately.
***** there's a lot more involved in a car. just think about the electronics in cars these days. just one substandard part used because the automaker wanted to save 10 cents from one vendor over another can lead to your head banging against the wall. just look at vw.
there's no way you'll get 29 mpg on a 5.7L V8 I've been driving my charger like a grandma I only get 22 mpg max
he called it a challnger
whitman o pretty much is a 4 door challenger
When doing comparisons, you need to stop pointing at the car you are standing to, when you are referring to a car that is not pictured. IE at 23min51s. It confuses the crap out of your viewers and you do it on every video. Otherwise great videos
FWD biased much?
this guy obviously has a hard on for FWD cars
this guy talkin is a blade
How bout some detail? I'm kidding, it's a joke!
Too bad your new Charger will break down, get hacked, and recalls won't be fixed.
