So excited that you’ve started a spoonie channel. As an almost 20 year sufferer of fibro and autoimmune issues, I’m always looking for ways to enjoy my relatively new love of watercolor without over exerting and throwing myself into a flair. It’s a delicate walk sometimes. Big hugs.

Oh Denise, this is the most beautiful painting! I hope you will consider putting him on a canvas bag. I LOVE my canvas bag and would like another one with Charlie? Stan? Fred? on it! Love the umbers mixed with the red violet. I think I need to watch the Colors of Nature video again (like I need more paint). They are beautiful. Thanks for your hard work. For me, you should never stress about being late with a video. They are always worth the wait!

I Loved Burned and Raw Umber from the start, though not from all brands. I love the Raw umber from White Nights and the Burnt umber from schmincke. Schmincke's Burnt Umber does not granulate that much making it a really awesome color for mixing base that I LOVE for botanicals.

He’s amazing, and so are you! I saw my 1st in the wild moose, in South Dakota, some 20-years ago. He was huge! Words can’t describe how large, muscular, and beautiful he was. I can still visualize him in my mind like it was yesterday!

I just discovered this color spotlight series and I love it. I have been venturing into watercolors but I know very little about pigments and such. so this is very useful to me. I am thinking of buying some professional watercolors and this series is really helping me to decide what colors I want to get.

I am still in awe at your expertise with watercolor and video production. Just another thanks to you Denise. Keep doing what you do!

Hi Denise. Thanks for this video. I am trying to decide whether to add raw umber or burnt umber to my limited palate in acrylics. But I also paint mostly in watercolor so this was very helpful. I am interested in your chronic pain management group because I have been living with chronic pain for many many years and it would be interesting to share with other like people. I’m not sure I quite understood how to find that link. Thanks again for another great video. You’re always uplifting and fun to watch.

After watching this video I was inspired to try out raw umber because I don't use it. The only two I had were Winsor and Newton (first one I had which made me not like it) and the Davinci (a tube I bought on clearance and really hadn't tried). I put some of the Davinci (which is like the QOR you showed) in a full pan and tried out some mixes and I LOVE IT!!! Thanks for doing this color spotlight as I will be trying out the Davinci raw umber I have a lot more.

Just watched again. Have not hallucinated; the Maimeri Burnt Umber I had was really that cool. Mixed with Fr. Ultramarine by W & N, it made the perfect silvery gray I needed for the water on a cloudy day in the Derryveagh Mountains, County Donegal, Ireland. Oops, now I need to replace it because even raw umbers just don't make that same color...P.S. Love the moosicorn!

Denoose. :) Another good video, Denise, and that painting of the moose is truly excellent. Like you, I started with Burnt Umber but have since added Raw Umber to my palette. Burnt Umber and Ultramarine is a really valuable mix. I love it with PV19 also. I haven't used these pigments much recently as I have been exploring mixing browns using quinacridone burnt orange, burnt scarlet and orange pigments.

Thanks for the great mixing inspirations for these colours - This pair sadly have sat in my pallet rather unloved... but for mixing the occasional dark - when burnt sienna is just not quite enough. I think my tubes of these are probably about 10-15 years old which will give you an idea of how little I used them. That mix with PV19 got me smacking my chops though, and the PG7 ...Oooo lovely - must try that! p.s. Have been a chronic pain sufferer for about 12 years would be interested in your Spoonies Discord group.

I was diagnosed with Fibro and started getting into art seriously at almost the exact same time, which was only about a month and a bit ago (I've been struggling with Fibro for about 4 years now though) and I'm only just learning to listen to my body. I lived with my father for 3 of the past 4 years and he always told me I needed to push myself and I was only in pain because I was "fat and lazy" and unfortunately I've continued that mentality and it's a hard thing to unlearn.

Took me a while to give browns some love, but felt in love with PBr6 E-F brown iron oxide from Daniel Smith for the dark, warm brown. Granulates awesomely and has gorgeous chocolatey texture, although mixing the raw umber is always a bit tricky still... I'm leaning towards warm hues though :) raw umber violet looks yummy though!

Denise, have you tried the greenish version of Raw Umber? I absolutely adore Raw Umber (the dark-Sepia-like version). It's a lovely neutraliser and I noticed it mixes esp. well with cool colours.
    But, the greenish version... 😅
I have a tube from ShinHan PWC (simply called Umber) and having a hard time with this colour. It's really opaque and seem to muddy things very quickly, esp. when mixed with other colours. 😥 Such a contrast to the ordinary Raw Umber.
Anyway, love Fred! He's looking gorgeous! Esp. love the final RUV wash. 😍

My name is Laura Vasquez. I've been watching your RUclips channel for over 3 years. I live in Shasta Lake California.
I have fibromyalgia, CFS also. I was diagnosed in 2003. I've had a couple of rough years, and haven't painted during that time, and am really trying to pull up my bootstraps.😲 I would like to check Spoonies in hopes for support and encouragement. I'm not sure which name shows on RUclips. More than likely it will be Lady_Loves_Jesus, or Laura V.

Wonderful! Do you have a spotlight on yellow ocher? PY43 (Ocher) is also the 1st of natural earth pigment used in caves thousands of years ago. I was reading Wikipedia about it and all the natural earth pigments a while back. The history is fascinating! However my Schmincke Raw Umber is so ugly, I'm ready to toss it. I've had it 10 years and have yet to use it. It looks too much like dog do.

Wow, what a find. It's presentations like these that deserve to be shared. Ok Denise, I am counting the number of times that you mention me by name. Of note for the IT geeks, "Raw Umber" has an SEO correlation with hex value #685408. This makes it a good choice for military, biology, theology, and linguistic sciences. It's the evolution of algae in relation to a data robot. It's why your local Jeep dealership talks about bread from heaven. What flavor might Raw Umber taste like Denise? Sugar perhaps.

Dawww :) I'm glad you like him! I'm really bad about remembering to mention this in videos, but there are preorder prints in my Etsy shop if you're interested! :)

I know what the term “lightfastness” means, but when you phrase it as, “______ is more lightfast” are you saying it’s more likely to fade easily? Or less likely?

More lightfast = less likely to fade

As most of you know I am chronic ill, combination of multiple illnesses - is that even a word??! -, muttering around in a disabled scoot :) Any questions on how to deal with that I will happily answer but please ask that on my Facebook. Art is my only escape so Basicly when it comes to yt I am rarely commenting on it: Not much use of having finally found an escape I CAN do when Illness keeps poppingup on yt itself. My FB is both art and union related so do feel free to ask me those questions there :) facebook.com/AafkeVultink

For some reason, umber reminds me of either poop or chocolate.

I love earth tones and rich dark browns so much, that when I'm in the kitchen or the bathroom I can't help ooh-ing and awe-ing over the hues of much of what I put in me, and then what comes out of me! :^D lol
